So we are getting RuneScape version 3 this summer. Certainly this will be one of the biggest updates to the game we have seen and it will a huge impact on pretty much everything. It will be great to see what Jagex have up their sleeves for this, more than just the technical aspects (even though those are certainly interesting as well).

 

Myself I am mostly looking forward to two of the things mentioned within the video:

1. The new graphics. Judging by those pictures we will be able to explore and experience the world in a much grander way. Probably our ability to interact with the world will be enrichen as well.

2. The ability to change the world through our own actions and decisions. Now it is time for the sixth age, and we players will be able to form the future. This couldn't get more epic.

If this would have been a normal update I would have agreed. But since this is the general discussion forum and that this is about a whole new version of the game coming out (even though we obviously know very little about it this far), I think having a thread to dicuss this here is motivated. If the mods wouldn't agree though they can move/close this. With this being such a big piece of news though...I think this should stay open.

I'm excited! This definetly opens up so many possibilities and who knows perhaps we'll be able to walk diagonally or go around certain things that block you w/o just standing there and rapidly clicking the minimap to no avail. (minor annoyances)

Only bit i'm concerned about is would this not lead to people waiting for other people to do the quests and see what the outcome they get and manufacture the quest to get the best possible outcome?

 

Unless they do a work around like they did with the Staff of Armadyl when you could choose to be on either side... protect the staff or try and get the staff etc...

The obvious solution is all the changes will be cosmetic and in any case where it is a useful reward (eg a new mine) the choices will only effect what NPC/God 'own' it.

I'm in disagreement as this update is something of a cornerstone to the game. This is also not a one-off BTS as they stated there are going to be other releases for information. Though it might still be eclipsed by something such as when rs2 beta or EOC beta came its still monumental. I feel that hml5 gives us the potential for a lot of game breaking content as far as usability:

 

- further map drawing and camera option. Finally we can feel the feel grandeur of the atmosphere at 3rd person view versus a glimmer full of haze.

 

- "tear and share" - lets call it docking - for all windows, bars, etc. Now we might be able to finally center dock our chat, ability bars; or even critical align the buttons.

 

- (likely) non-setting character stored material - meaning maybe many of the changes as such in the world will not rely on ghost-overlays. A great example is the All Fired Up hot air balloon docks not unlocked being shown as boulders. This is potentially the biggest issue they may be able to resolve is it greatly hinders the player from changing the game world outside of instances.

 

 

This is a potentially massive update, but currently its potential is only seen as just that "potential." Give it, and this topic, the time to pan out.

I agree Urza, it looks like it'll be huge! I wonder if those who paid for the Gold, Silver, Bronze tiered memberships will hear more about an HTML5 beta coming next month. I can't wait for more news on this update.

 

An old Q&A said that HTML5 would also enable WASD movement for characters (In addition to an ability to zoom in up to first person) - I wonder if that would be too huge a change to have.

I've paid for the gold membership, so if any information do come my way that isn't available to the rest of you i'll try and share it but i doubt Jagex even remembers us, Porbably hold a Beta for us 24hrs before it's public to everyone =(

10 bucks says it won't run right for at least 2 years for half their customers.

The only good thing I heard was, "You can still use the Java client".

Which of course really means, "you can still use the java client until we have a poll in a couple of years and we become shocked that more than 50% of players still use Java and then we decide they are stupid and eliminate java use because we are the java gaming experts (Jagex)".

I've played since 2003. This update excites me more than any other. Roll on HTML5, and roll on better quest story lines.

 

EDIT: Just read up, I'm amazed at how [bleep]ing pessimistic some players are. Jagex make mistakes, of course. I'd like to see you do [bleep]ing better.

Don;t be silly RS died long before the miniclip gen.

RS2 was the death of it, and rune before that and addy mith and black before that and adding more than just lumbridge before that and adding tuorial island was also a death. The only thing that dies more often than runescape (by popular opinion) is Dr Who.

Online user data scrapes for both games clearly shows they have been running around 50:50 (with 07 mostly slightly behind) until the past day or so where 07scape has gone much lower.

Agreed. This isn't exactly a new-quest-is-coming BTS. I think a centralized topic for discussing RS3 is necessary.
