Rares in 2007scape- A necessity?

I say that they should make them rare (semi-rare) skilling/combat/tt drops for like two weeks, then discontinue them. It allows all players an equal chance at them, but it keeps them rare enough to actually have a value.

knowing my luck, they'll do something like this but it'll be during finals week...

I am a bit concerned that if the drops can also come from skilling than bots will get alot of them...

i don't play psykick anymore... i play 2ed: "pure fett"

To everyone saying "the rich get richer" if I remember correctly we all started out on tutorial island (or skipped it) and got 25gp as a kick start. How you used your time and the 25gp to get started was up to you. Don't hate on people who were first comers or efficient in getting to a set goal to make the most money (whether it be barrows, staking, double nats, Abby demons, etc.) or even those who merched.

The rich get richer excuse can work in EoC because its 12 years in the making and some people have had far more time to accumulate wealth. In 07scape we all started the same day (or within a few days) and have the same guides/resources available to us. If you want to make money staking, read an old staking guide on different builds (verac staker, boxer, Mage, etc) and make money at it but don't put 999th down for being rich.

As for the rares, I agree they should be implemented (and I like the clue scroll idea) as a way to have an item that will rise in value and as a store for money to counter inflation and the devaluation of money. Them as a status symbol is another bonus.

Peace,

Vann

Most of the rich players in 07 traded their EOC for it..so yes the rich do get richer.

A friend of mine was one of the first people to 99 ranged because he traded EOC money for 07 money. Not saying that's bad or anything-- I'd have done the same thing too if I had a ton of EOC cash since I'd rather play 07 than EOC :D

I wasn't really for them putting rares back into the game but after realizing there isn't much to spend cash on aside from Third Age, I think I'm actually for it now. Would be cool if they made new ones or at least updated the look. though.

Only reason I'm still on the fence about them is I know they're going to be hoarded like crazy.

Whenever i first started playing runescape way back when, rares were the drive that kept me going. Just the thoughts of having one made me play for hours, they were and still are a great goal to set for yourself. Personally id love to see them return to '07.

Seems certain trade able rares are coming back now.

Really hope the community doesn't [bleep] it up by saying everyone gets one, or something that will make them equally as common.

Check it out, huge amount of effort has gone into this massive mod!

Common rares, lol. But yeah, would be pointless to release them if they don't hold any value. I like the idea of having them as a level 3 clue reward for a short while.

That's not a fair chance of getting them then though.

Those with higher combat can kill higher level monsters which are better clue droppers.

Should be the same opportunity for everybody, no one should get any advantage at getting rares.

Grats even though that's totally unrelated to what I asked.

Jagex has washed their hands of that responsibility by saying "it's what the community wants" :P

Have they said anything about the options to distribute them, and if making them only available for a short time is even an option?

Congratulations on that amazing discovery.

Now be sure to let me know when there's a poll for what I've asked, which is not if tradeable rares are coming back.

Lol I'm starting to find out who the pretentious dbags of the forums are.

To answer your question in terms you can understand. Yes.

I'm glad you've finally grasped the concept of reading. Made it easier, yeah?

To skip over all of that, they have listed 9 options in the OSRS devblog about possible re-introduction options, which will be presented in a poll next week. Of these options, it appears that some would result in discontinuation of the items, whereas some would not. The discontinuation of rares would appear then to be the subject of the next poll.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

Question: What impact would the introduction of tradable, discontinued rares have upon the gameplay of those players who don't have any interest in collecting rares?

999 has explained this to death mostly: rich people would switch to buying rares and keep off other items like prestige gear (robin, infinity, whip etc) or resources, which would make them cheaper for the average player.

Is that really all? Why do players oppose rares then?

Because items like Robin, Whip, Infinity, etc SHOULD be the expensive items, because they're 'rare' AND useful.

Where as partyhats are completely useless outside of a place to put money.

An old player from 2004-2011. I'm back for the 2007 servers, let's see how long this lasts.

That doesn't even make sense. One player buys a blue partyhat for 2 billion coins. That player can now go spend that 2 billion coins on anything he'd like. Maybe some robins, infinity, whips, guthans, berserker rings, whatever. Check mate.
