Behind the Scenes: June 2013

Do you usually only play 1-2 hours a day? Or is it more like 5-6?

10/10 predicted this would be said at some point.

Not going to lie, I use to play a lot due to problems at home. RS was a way to get away from things, I could sit there and play RS and talk to people and forget about everything.

So now it is 5 years later, I play a few hours a week, sit here and revise while the firemaking is done. I talk to people on skype when we go to boss and I have fun while doing so.

Because I am a highish level now does not mean that everyone follows your stuck up view that we all play for many hours each day, I have a social life, I work hard at school and I go home and relax, sometimes on RS, sometimes doing other things.

You just proved my point though. I don't think many of the high-leveled players got where they are by playing casually.

Don't you think it's a bit silly to chide others for not being high level, when you yourself just admitted to becoming a high level as a result of an unhealthy amount of play time? If you're going to make it sound like people become high levels as a result of dedication, hard work, and persistence; you can't also leave out the part where you become a high level as a result of sacrificing and compromising your real life goals and activities.

And if you believe that it's worth sacrificing RL for RS, then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

New trees: New foliage that's sure to make the cut!

It's only graphics, but still cool.

Why are we assuming new trees is only a graphical update and not a woodcutting update to tie into the construction update?

Because the highest level useful tree is at level 54 (arctic pine), and I don't think Jagex will add low-level trees.

People still use yew/magic logs for bonfiring, I don't see how these aren't useful.

They're not gotten from trees though, mostly RDT, QBD and other bosses, challenges can return magic logs I think?, and a bunch of other resource-generating things.

Isn't the high level content problem: Noob is level 60 needs level 70 for new content -> works towards levels 70 as a casual player -> new content is now obsolete/makes no money or is inefficnet->new content released at level 80->works towards level 80 combat-> same problem.

I remember when GWD was released I didn't quite have the levels to get into a team for it (at the time 80+ melee's for Bandos). By the time I'd got 80 melee's in a casual play style you had to be maxed melee's with overloads, turmoil and the best gear to not just be crashed at Bandos.

Kind of true, luckily high level caps somewhere. But there is low-to-mid level content that has stayed valuable, or has been patched up - Barrows mostly (tds/glacors pre-eoc). Kind of struggling to think of t70 examples, but t80 there's quite a bit (corp, all GWD) although that's mostly to do with EoC making everything incredibly easy.

You just proved my point though. I don't think many of the high-leveled players got where they are by playing casually.

Don't you think it's a bit silly to chide others for not being high level, when you yourself just admitted to becoming a high level as a result of an unhealthy amount of play time? And if you believe that it's worth sacrificing RL for RS, then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

You were saying that to become high level, RS must be your only goal in life. I disproved that in the fact that I played RS to get away from things and my goal was not RS, I had goals that would have been very hard for a 12 year old to achieve.

Also, when did I chide someone for not being high level? I said that if you want to play the content then you need to earn the levels required.

TBH, all I see in this thread is people complaining that everything isn't easy and how they want it, how they want to do nothing and get everything.

Throwing around terms like "unhealthy amount of play time" doesn't really make any sense, as that phrase means different things to different people.

Just because it's subjective doesn't mean it's an irrelevant or weak point. Anyways I'm done discussing this for now. I'll resume this debate in BTS July

Hmm, I think the high level range slayer dungeon sounds cool. Something to give me incentive to finish off my slayer. The dragonstone armor sounds meh. Not really worth it after the market gets completely flooded.

And I am dubious about how they described divination. Old school training with new school rewards.... Sounds not that great imo. Unless they mean like, old old school 3 hit rule combat training. Cause Classic was and is amazing.

Barrows Brothers Deluxe: Can they really get more awesome? Yes, they can.

What? Do we need this? Barrows is perfectly fine at the moment.

I'd have to disagree.. As it stands now, Barrows is way too easy. A bit of revamp would help out quite a bit tbch,

Hunter

Edit: Or perhaps its more of a wider issue with combat being way too easy. But I would think that with barrows being a sort of mini-boss challenge they should be more.. challenging.

I think they're just throwing around buzzwords. The ranged dungeon will probably be good. The dragonstone armour is useless unless they fix hybrid armour itself. Bit of a letdown of a month tbh,

I think Jagex is clearly aware that they let the players down a bit this month. Had they not felt this way they wouldn't have made the effort to be nearly as transparent on their upcoming updates queue for the year that was listed. I think everyone who even bothers discussing on this topic should be made aware of that and at the least acknowledge their attempts.

If it were a one-off thing, that would be fine, but there are vastly more shoddy months than months with good content.

Barrows definitely isn't too easy for players using Lv. 60 equipment wish ~Lv. 70 stats.

You know, the players that Barrows is targeted towards.

Since that whole list thing is unusual, I'm suspicious that it's because a specific update had to be delayed. Is it possible they planned to release Divination this month, but had to postpone it? Or better yet, they still will release it, they just wanted to make it a surprise.

I fear that's giving too much credit to Jagex, though..

I'm looking forward to the Ranged Slayer dungeon, but primarily for the lore-side of things. It'll be exciting to see just exactly how the Order of Ascension was/is planning to bestow godship, and if that method is being used/will be used by someone else. (Sliske :?) Woohoo level 90 Ranged weapon, but I'll probably never use it, so I'm not too worried about it. :P

Yeah I think it does seem a bit odd to see only two planned updates for the month. I am also thinking that divination and world events might not be tied to it in that way. I am more inclined to believe that they are trying to get HTML5 and NIS moved out of the way in lieu of divination and world events. I really do feel that while divination might be a throwback to old school skilling where you might go back to collecting things from a node. The whole issue is the tie in that divination has with world events and I think Jagex wants an ample supply of team members on stand by for the release of the skill and the first of these events. From what we've been able to glean from news articles is that both divination and the world events are coming alongside runescape 3 and thats a pretty giant bill for what I would presume being a one to two week release schedule. Why would Jagex tie these three immense pieces of content together so closely? Who knows really...

On a separate note yeah we may have had a shoddy couple months by several players standards, but look at things from a logical standpoint. You got your typical 3-4 updates for each of those months. Granted it may not have all been decent content to you, but it was content Jagex wanted to bring to the community as a whole. This month is unique in that we are only getting 2 and the difference was clearly broached on by Jagex and they made efforts to communicate exactly why the month was that way.

In the end all we an do, assuming you are an understanding human being, is sit and wait to see things pan out. Right now we know we are getting runescape 3 soon and that entails both HTML5, NIS and the whole launching of the sixth age and its world events. All of those things are coming to us all at once if not very closely compacted together on the update list.

Previous guesstimates on Divination's release said early summer--specifically June was thrown around. I think that it's entirely likely that they decided to push its release up to be a part of the RS3 Launch (July?) to make it just that much more overwhelming of a change, and give them some more time to polish the skill.

The result is a bunch of different potential content releases being thrown around for this month, and not a lot of certainty as to which ones will be first.

My personal guess is that one or two of the new Sixth Age quests (and maybe the new trees or toolbelt changes) will be out this month--after all, they did say that they weren't going to reveal details about Divination so that people would give the upcoming quests their time in the spotlight. (Implying that we will see them before Divination's release)
