Although Jagex’s games are free to play online, about a fifth of its customers pay for premium membership.

As a result, Jagex’s revenues were £53m in 2012, up from £32.9m in the nine months to the end of 2011, generating a pre-tax profit of £9.7m and a £10.9m increase in its cash holdings to £21.8m.

North America accounts for about two-thirds of those playing Jagex games, while a quarter are in the UK. Most of the remaining 10 per cent is split between other EU countries and Australia.

The Cambridge-based company, whose flagship role-playing title RuneQuest has more than 200m participants worldwide, has signed a publishing deal with Brazilian internet service provider UOL for Portuguese-language versions of its games.

Just when you think Jagex's mainstream press coverage has started looking better, the Financial Times calls Jagex's flagship game "RuneQuest." :?

Could be that they are re-branding the game for a better image though in other parts of the world.

Except RuneQuest is already a thing. And it predates RuneScape by a couple of decades.

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

Well that looks much better than the last report. So if you want to keep playing RuneScape, good news!

I don't see why Jagex needs that much profit... to me it sounds like there's another five million pounds that should be put into making EoC good :(.

Would you say that they should hire 20 or so devs for a year then fire them after EoC is "finished"?

....yes?

i mean if you get them to actually put some freaking documentation in this time

They'd hardly be the first company to hire contract employees and then let them go when the project was finished.

So SoF and Trollomons works then. Good for them. Pity we wont really see much of it reinvested into RS really.

The business partners and shareholders etc will be happy though... That's the main thing right? :)

But doesn't Jagex use a proprietary coding language? I don't know how different RuneScript is from other languages, but training 20 contractors would be a significant investment in itself.

Doing this in fun jest, but have you thought about any non-for profit organizations?

Also, he did say many businesses, meaning that he left it open for there being a small number.

So I guess SoF/SGS won through for the most part. I remain hopeful they keep to their word on things such as potential candidates for these programs being less-than-likely content for the game. I really do like the whole 'tribes of djinn' and would love to see them I runescape.
