Behind the Scenes: July

Recommended Posts

Well shit... What a disappointment. I was sincerely hoping that Divination would be out by the end of the month, so I had something to look forward to - a new challenge that was fun and interactive after I finish Livid and MTA and comp cape - but lolnope.

I'm much happier that Viagra doesn't actually specifically drop tectonic armour, but instead drops the stuff you need to create it. So depending how many people kill him/how much he drops it might not be too long before we see the first sets of Tectonic being bought and sold.

Bacon quest... Eh... Sure I adore bacon. And yes I love British humour, but Draz summed it up:

And the quest having "British humour"...fair amount of people won't get some of the jokes in that case :/

Anyways, just hoping Bacon has a higher healing value than Rocktails. That would just be the best thing ever.

Other than that, after a month of nerfs and almost non-updates (yes I count Ascension dungeon and Triskellion as very poor updates - the rate at which Asc bows come into game is too damn slow, hardly anyone bothers with that anymore so they've sat at around 230m for the past 2 weeks. And Triskellion is almost too rare to specifically hunt for) it's disappointing to see yet another month as a let down.

I just hope to God that July 5th brings some good news... But I highly doubt it.

Ah well, back to getting completionist reqs.

July is the big summer month for gaming. It's bang in the middle of Q3, and it's when people generally have most free time which isn't being occupied by a holiday somewhere without Internet access. I understand that a "bad project released on time will always be bad, while a delayed project will be good eventually", but not releasing RS3 this month is a missed opportunity.

Yes, August still counts as summer and people have free time then too, but surely you want the two months, not just the weaker one which leads straight into the start of the academic year.

I wouldn't write it off yet.

They have a 'big' Rs3 announcement coming on wednesday.

The only 2 things they really have left to possibly announced are: Complete rs3 beta (eg merging html5 and nis) and Release date

And somehow I don't think the betas merging are worthy of a stand alone pre-warned about news item.

Getting kinda sick of always having something big going on that seems to suck the life out of all the other updates. Either way, I'm interested to see what will happen to the pigs in Draynor Village.

Needs more blast screens and berets.

From the empty days of hope, deny the darkness
Follow my voice, we'll run far away from here

If only to hide, to escape this life
And live forever, forever in the sun

Anyways, just hoping Bacon has a higher healing value than Rocktails. That would just be the best thing ever

For this to be true, I'd be willing to bet it'd be a baked potato variant. That's the only way a normal food item could scale to match or surpass rocktails at level 84. Currently the highest spud-based food we have requires lvl 68 and heals 1700 with up to 4 parts to make the item.

I dunno, it actually sounds really plausible. If that's the case, then I am fully on the bacon train. Toot toot.

"hella" Very British.

And again magic weaponry & armour will be the most expensive :D & :(

Inb4 virtus weapons crash to 20m (x2).

But that will not happen, because there are more soul split, aura of penance/vamp, asc & royal xbow/bolt, immortality/barricade nerfs upcoming a few weeks after Vorago.

If the 'heals 10% more than other foods at level' holds true comparing to fish the 84 item ought to be close to rocktails.

lvl 82 sea turtle 1640 > 1804

lvl 88 Caveifhs 1760 > 1936

Rockies being 1860 there's room for it to be equal or a little better in there.

Sidebar: I think I need a medal for that typo of 'fish.' Not a single letter in the correct place.

I wouldn't rule out divination just yet. In the wording of the bacon quest, Jagex used the phrase 'an old school quest with new school rewards" - the same wording the have used to describe divination. I wouldn't be surprised to see an unexpected skill update like construction, perhaps simultaneous with the rs3 release, and potentially as early as this Wednesday.

best drops (reasonably accurate/up to date): 1x Elysian Sigil (LS), 1x Arcane Sigil (cs), 4x Armadyl Hilt (solo at 100m, 100m, 50m, and 5m), 2x Saradomin Hilt (solo at 25m), 5x Draconic Visage (34m,1.2m,1.2m) and various cs/ls/ffa Nex splits.
Drygore Drops: 7 Longswords, 3 Maces, 3 Rapiers, 3 Off-hand Rapiers,  5 Off-hand Maces, 3 Off-hand Longswords

ROTS Shields: 12  Seismics: 16

Ascension Crossbows: 6  Spider Legs: 10

Countless Armadyl armour pieces, Saradomin amulets, Dragon Hatchets, and Fremenik Rings.

Doubt it.

1) We haven't had an outright RS3 beta yet.

2) They said several times Divination will be out a week or 2 after RS3.

3) The quest isn't even this week; Vorago is. The BTS Vid for the quest is out on friday aka the quest is next week.

Edit:

On the other hand having thought more I can see where you are coming from:

1) They said all the quests in dev will be out after RS3

2) They said Vorago 'needs' html5

3) They said Vorago is likely to be out 'midweek' due to an unrelated engine thing

Now in Rs terms midweek would probably mean weds, seeing as 'early next week' always refers to the usual mon/tues upate windows.

If it was out weds it would coincide with the big RS3 announcement.

You fail to realize that Jagex is also the same company that said that the abyssal whip did not exist back in 2006, and tht ZERO players EVER get falsely banned. Ever..

Are you talking about a really old statement, or the recent statement by Jacmob?

If quoting Jacmob, they admits the incorrect ones were human error.

2) They said Vorago 'needs' html5

Wasn't there a post from Osborne after the fact that said it didn't require HTML5 but that it was really needed to be impressive?

^I didn't see that but I always assumed the 'needs html5' was less a literal statement and more a simplification of 'needs the new tech that the rs3 engine rewrite entails which includes html5, nis and an updated java engine'

After all there is quite obviously gonna be a java engine re-write to match the new html5 engine and you can already see it: Live game on my macbook - 15 FPS low-mid settings quite laggy in many places. NIS on my macbook - max settings 20-25fps runs smoothly all over the world. Certainly some lag will be to do with players, but the difference is so big that something BTS has certainly changed.

When did they say anything about that? I thought they were leaving the java version as-is according to the rs3 campfire?

Speaking of campfires, this kind of supports your release schedule theory, Sy:

If Vorago is released mid week alongside the announcement and the following week is the quest, RS3 could potentially fall somewhere in between.

They haven't said it anywhere but its a safe assumption:

RS3 adds new features - New features require being coded in to the engine.

RS3 optimises stuff - Optimising requires back end alterations.

An entirely new iteration of the game being coded independently of the ever changing current - Perfect opportunity to do a spring clean by weeding out duplicated codes and putting newer tech at the very heart of the engine.

NIS does things the current game is no where near - NIS is in Java needs new stuff.

Quests and other content been held off to make use of the rs3 engine - since Java is not disappearing there is no reason to hold them back unless the rs3 java engine can do things the rs2 engine cannot.

All in all it just makes sense to re-write the java engine as a matter of house keeping when doing such a big overhaul and as I mentioned the performance difference between live and NIS on my system is so great it is indicative that the NIS engine is substantially different from the live one, particularly in terms of how it is rendering graphics as it can do higher settings with less issue.

The context of the thread post leads me to believe that 'the next (elven) quest is soon after runescape 3.'

But I could be wrong.

As for BTS I can't see much worth logging in for...will log in for the quest and reclaiming my cape but nothing more. Unless July 5th is truly spectacular.

I thought in an earlier Campfire(or maybe the BTS interview thing a few weeks ago) they specifically said that there were no elf quests coming up or in work atm. So I don't think he was referring to the next elf quest being soon after RS3

I assumed since RS3 is coming up very soon and we've had confirmed that elf quest wouldn't start development until the beginning of next year at the earliest, that it would apply to any upcoming quest. Re-reading it after seeing your post, I think I really missed the mark...

Thanks Ruinous for crushing my dreams of an early July release correcting me :P

They have said several times elf quest is not at all in dev so certainly cannot be 'soon after rs3' so Kimberly's context holds true.

Plus there are plenty of other campfire etc quotes where they clearly say 'next quest soon after rs 3' in the context of quests at large. I'm fairly sure there may even be one specifically in context of this bacon quest and certainly the death quest.

It looks like the bulk of what should be in this BTS is going to come out on the 3rd for no given reason. Oh well, I hope it's good news and for a good reason! It's also good that we have a new boss to complete the level 90 weapons cycle.

It looks like a really light month, but I'm going to hold off judgement until the 3rd.

Two birds one stone, they complete the level 90 weapons cycle and start the level 90 armour cycle.

Balancing the triangle and simultaneously unbalancing it.

I sure hope they're surprising us with RS3 or Div this month. Hyping shit for months and months then delivering 1-2 updates per month in the summer is unsettling.
