WRITE FOR THE TIMES - SUBMIT A GUEST ARTICLE:

Remember, YOU can write an article for the Tip.It Times! You can apply to write full time, or just submit a "one-off" guest article any time you want! Our editors will work with you to ensure that your article is ready for publication. All guest articles can be submitted to @tripsis or any other Editorial Panel member. For more information, including details on how to apply full time, read this forum thread: http://forum.tip.it/topic/209138-how-to-write-for-the-tipit-times/

I'd like to remind people of the rules pertaining to Times threads:

[hide=Read these rules before posting in this thread]

Rampant flame wars have taken control of virtually every week's times discussion topics. The following guidelines must be followed when posting on this topic. Posts that ignore these guidelines will be removed.

1. You are invited and welcome to express like or dislike on articles and a particular author's writing style. It is not acceptable, however, to flame or personally insult an author. Posts that aren't anything but an attack will be removed from the topic.

2. Spelling and grammar errors can be reported to tripsis by PMing her and they will be fixed promptly. It is not necessary to post them on the discussion topic.

3. Off topic posts that do not discuss the content of that week's articles will be removed. This is not the place to discuss the direction of the times, how much you love or hate the times, etc. Off topic posts will be removed.

By keeping within these guidelines, Times discussion topics will mean more for the Panel and Administration than just a place for flame wars. Flame wars do not provide any useful feedback to the Times, which is mainly what we're aiming for with these topics: feedback.

This policy is effective as of now, November 17, 2010. Any posts prior to the creation of this policy may or may not be removed according to the new guidelines.

[/hide]

[hide=Submitting Crossword Puzzles]If you want to submit your own crossword puzzle, it's quite simple.

Simply provide a word list (about 10-20 words) with their corresponding clues. Then, message @The Floating Pen with the word list and it will eventually be published in the Tip.it Times![/hide]

When replying please make sure to clarify the article you are replying to! Thanks!

If you spot any typos or mistakes in an article then please PM them to @tripsis. :)

Enjoy the articles!

All extremely well-written articles.

In response to TS_Stormrage's article - I've been a part of the gaming and game developing communities for a long time. No matter what changes are made, you're always going to end up upsetting somebody. There is simply no avoiding it.

Humans naturally don't like change. We like to stay with what we're comfortable with. We don't want to adapt to a fancy new combat system. We won't take the time and get used to a new interface. I've noticed this attitude with all of the games that I've spent a lot of time playing. As players, we wield our torch and pitchfork and go after the company that's making the game when we honestly do not have any idea why these changes were made.

Great article stormrage although I can't agree with the last bit. We are forced to use either magic, ranged or melee but I don't see how a two-second delay on using abilities after you've switched from one item to the other makes a perfect combat triangle.

DYK that the bonus percentage is 5% and not 10% =D ?

I do not agree with the usage of the term "RWT" to refer to micro-transactions.

Why not?

I understand Jagex has changed their definition of it so that buying items which give xp, gp, bank space and exclusive outfits doesn't 'officially' fall under RWT, but I'd hope any player could see that it is RWT in terms of the 'spirit of the game.'

Although I disagree about the comments stating that combat is balanced at the highest level again - actually the combat triangle is fundamentally unbalanced due to melee having an ultimate ability vastly superior to anything ranged or magic has - berserk - as well as melee having a wider selection of powerful thresholds than either of the other classes, and ranged having by far the weakest thresholds.

Nothing has changed really. Slayer is now identical in terms of class set up to pre eoc - you mage a few specific tasks (ice strykes, polypore creatures) and melee the rest (focussing on getting berserk off as often as possible.) Yes you can range or mage any task now, but melee is still the significantly superior choice.

Because Real-World Trading is the term used for when third-parties are making a profit off Jagex's intellectual property (coins and/or items), which is illegal.

Microtransactions is when the company itself is making a profit off their own intellectual property, which is fine.

More to the point, microtransactions are a feature in virtually every MMO game out there now, and even many single-player games, often in a far worse way than Scape does. It makes the user sound like the only game they've ever played is RS.

Did you read my post? I was referring to RWT as the rule that existed before SoF, SGS etc. which is still the rule I follow(ed). RWT is buying any in game advantage - whether from a 3rd party entity or from Jagex. What Jagex changes the rule to is irrelevant really.

To the contrary, MTX done well is great. I paid £8 for ten+ hours of content for each of the main FO:NV dlcs. That's great value for money, and Bethesda followed a MTX model that worked for their game.

That's opposed to the weekly helping of bullshit Jagex serves us through SGS and SoF.

Does it matter what it's called?
