Awesome. So how long does Nex armor "really" last anyway? I never understood how chaotics, Nex armor, and even Barrows armor really degraded, but it's definitely longer than advertised. Anyone have an EXACT figure?

Yes you can, if you mean by the prefix title!

You can choose it in the customization interface!

You don't even get the titles automatically - they just appear in customisation interface with no ceremony or warning. Was a few days into to ports before anyone even really realised they existed.

So how long does Nex armor "really" last anyway?

Every tick you are in combat, it degrades one charge.

For example, if you are safespotting with an average (6 tick) weapon, you lose 1 charge per 6 ticks from attacking, and none from defending.

If you spam abilities, which are one per 3 ticks, you lose 1 charge per 3 ticks. Being under attack by a 6 tick weapon has the same effect - you lose 1 charge per 6 ticks attacking and 1 per 6 defending.

If you are under attack by a 3 tick weapon, not being hit on the tick you attack, you lose 2 charges per 3 ticks.

If you are under attack at all times, you lose one charge per tick.

On a tick you're being attacked 100 times and also attack 100 times, you lose one charge as well.

Well, a tic is .6 seconds and it's supposed to last for 10 hours. Assuming it's 10 hours of straight tics or "charges", which may be wrong -

60/.6 = 100 tics/minute

100*60 = 6000 tics/hr

10*6000 = 60,000 tics or charges in 10 hours

If that's true, that's why it lasts much longer than 10 hours. Idk if it is though :P

By the way;

I hope whoever has the name '64' at least has the courtesy to get 1600 port score.

A tick isn't .6 seconds. The time between ticks is .6 seconds.

Does that not amount to the same thing anyway? If the ticks are happening .6s apart then one could say a tick is .6s it really makes no difference to the final outcome.

It doesn't make sense to refer to them as units of time though.

Why not? They sort are a unit of time due to the uniform nature in which they occur in time, and the fact anything occurring in the dead space between them is part of them. Time in game can be measured by them as well, examples of that happened already with attacks taking 6 ticks or 3 ticks etc. Not to mention the 'play time' on adventurer logs is probably a direct product of measuring ticks as time to then be converted to conventional measures. Are not all units of time simple fixed intervals within the greater stream of time that can be defined relative to something else? Eg the seconds on a clock are ticks that happen at a set interval as defined by the line at Greenwich from which timezones are defined; seconds of a race are defined as the ticks of a set interval happening from when the race begins to its end. etc.

If the servers went down for whatever reason, when they were brought back up, would the first tick occur immediately or after the first period associated with the tick? If it occurred immediately, that breaks the idea of representing ticks as units of time.

When you measure seconds, you measure the time between those set intervals because time is continuous. When you measure ticks, you have to count how many have occured because they are discrete.

I tried to find it in the thread but after 30 pages I haven't been able to. Anyway, I though I read here that putting off story missions until the Bowl was a good idea. I guess the logic is to go for the resource special missions, which will help you more as it get's you better crew/ship upgrades, so you fail less missions, and get to the end faster.

I am half way through the Hook and I have all the hook ship upgrades, 3 tetsu pl8 scrolls, 12.6k chims, 3.6k bamboo, 2k gunpowerd, and 380 slate. I think it's going pretty good, but I haven't done a story mission since the arc.

If time is continuous and the set interval is .6s is that not a continuous measurement that can be used to read time?

Equally if a set interval is discrete because you can count count how many have occurred does this not also apply to seconds? I can say when 60 seconds have occurred by counting them just as easily as I can say when 100 ticks have occurred by counting them.

This is getting rather off-topic, probably best to leave it, so I'll just leave a closing thought.

I mean sure from the computer and design perspective the tick is an event that actively occurs and is nothing more.

But from a human outside perspective seeing as they happen a set time intervals they are a perfectly valid measure of time because you can quantify that x of them take y time, or you can work out y time contained x ticks. After all all our measures of time are arbitrarily defined intervals.
