What is a Local Moderator?

Local Moderators (LMods) are members of our partners’ staff in chosen territories. They will be managing their designated community and can be found in-game and on the forums in certain localised game worlds.

LMods are there to assist new players, organise events, run competitions, engage and protect the community in-game and on the forums. LMods cannot give free items or trade with other players.

We currently have LMods on the Spanish and Portuguese versions of the game and forums. In the future we might expand this feature to other partners in different territories/languages.

How does someone become a Local Moderator?

The only way to become a Local Moderator is if you are part of the Community Management Team working for one of our official partners. Currently, partners with Local Mods are: Gamerica/UOL for Brazilian Portuguese and Aexso5 for Latin-American Spanish.

How will I recognise a Local Moderator in-game?

Local Moderator characters look no different from any other players when they are in-game, and like other players they can be any level. When a Local Moderator speaks they are very easy to identify, as you will always see a small purple crown next to their name when they type a message. This crown shows in all the chat types including private messages and Quick Chat. Below is an example of the crown you will see in the chat box.

How will I recognise a Local Moderator on the forums?

Whenever a Forum Moderator makes a forum post, their text will appear on a purple background and they will have the words 'Local Moderator' beneath their name.

Will Local Moderators help me?

When you see a Local Moderator in-game, they will endeavour to answer any questions you may have if they are able to. Sometimes however they may be busy running an event or even investigating a possible bug so If a Local Moderator does not respond then please do not be offended, as they will be working at making the game better for everyone.

If you do not get an answer to your question, you should check the Game Guide for the information you were looking for if it is game related or Contact Us for any account/non-game help.

Will Pmods and FMods still exist in these localised worlds where LMods are present?

Yes, think of LMods as members of the Community Management team who are usually in-game for special occasions. We still believe that the volunteer Player Moderators and Forum Moderators’ teams are essential for our community.

What tools do Local Moderators have in-game for their role?

Local Moderators have direct channels to contact Jagex Staff. Local Moderators, just like all players, can report others when they see something that may harm the community. They are given guidance and have the additional ability to add a mute to a report for more serious issues. Jagex have a dedicated team who monitor and review every report received as a matter of priority to ensure that any actions taken by a Local Moderator are correct.

In addition to that, Local Moderators have some tools which facilitate organising and running in-game events.

So in short they are basically a 'sponsored member' from an advertising deal?

Seems neat to be honest. I'll visit the Spanish forums to see if I spot any :P

I agree, but only so far on paper. I think it would be cool if they encouraged some really good ingame events or are somehow able to help players learn about the lesser known parts of runescape. But I can only imagine these "special events" are really just real world advertising plugs. Maybe I'll jump over to the Spanish world and hunt some down.

Not really. Those companies (Gamerica/UOL and Axeso5) have the licencing rights to RS in their respective languages. It's not an advertising deal.

So basically you wouldn't ordinarily see Jmods on those worlds because they don't speak spanish. So these guys take over doing the Jmods events?

That's how I read it, yes. The CM team for English RS are all Jagex employees and are located at Jagex HQ, so they all get JMods accounts. Since the people running the foreign language servers are not technically Jagex employees (so far as I'm aware) they don't deserve, or maybe that they can't be trusted with, JMods accounts. This LMod position is a way for Jagex to encourage non-English events without having to grant non-Jagex employees all of the rights and responsibilities of a JMod account.

At least that's how I interpret this.

So as I best understand it... Lmods are staff accounts for the partners that own the rights to RS in respective foreign language servers. They have pmod/fmod powers but no jmod powers. Interesting

I remember a few localization CM mods a few years back, so I'm going to guess they are phasing out multiple language CM mods and just letting the partners handle CM there?

Edit: Sorry for double post :(

Oh, well that doesn't sound too bad. They did mention in the article if these turns out well they'll expand it to other place. I wonder if Jagex would eventually leave Jmod events to thee guys in English worlds too just so they mods can focus on other things, or if we'll just be excluded.

More likely they mean French and German servers

The discontinuity with the "M" bothers me, haha: http://runescape.wik.../wiki/Moderator

Maybe Lmods have no actual mod-powers (e.g. muting)? EDIT: Yes they can, Jagex is just derping or there's some other reason behind it.
