WRITE FOR THE TIMES - SUBMIT A GUEST ARTICLE:

Remember, YOU can write an article for the Tip.It Times! You can apply to write full time, or just submit a "one-off" guest article any time you want! Our editors will work with you to ensure that your article is ready for publication. All guest articles can be submitted to @tripsis or any other Editorial Panel member. For more information, including details on how to apply full time, read this forum thread: http://forum.tip.it/topic/209138-how-to-write-for-the-tipit-times/

I'd like to remind people of the rules pertaining to Times threads:

[hide=Read these rules before posting in this thread]

Rampant flame wars have taken control of virtually every week's times discussion topics. The following guidelines must be followed when posting on this topic. Posts that ignore these guidelines will be removed.

1. You are invited and welcome to express like or dislike on articles and a particular author's writing style. It is not acceptable, however, to flame or personally insult an author. Posts that aren't anything but an attack will be removed from the topic.

2. Spelling and grammar errors can be reported to tripsis by PMing her and they will be fixed promptly. It is not necessary to post them on the discussion topic.

3. Off topic posts that do not discuss the content of that week's articles will be removed. This is not the place to discuss the direction of the times, how much you love or hate the times, etc. Off topic posts will be removed.

By keeping within these guidelines, Times discussion topics will mean more for the Panel and Administration than just a place for flame wars. Flame wars do not provide any useful feedback to the Times, which is mainly what we're aiming for with these topics: feedback.

This policy is effective as of now, November 17, 2010. Any posts prior to the creation of this policy may or may not be removed according to the new guidelines.

[/hide]

[hide=Submitting Crossword Puzzles]If you want to submit your own crossword puzzle, it's quite simple.

Simply provide a word list (about 10-20 words) with their corresponding clues. Then, message @The Floating Pen with the word list and it will eventually be published in the Tip.it Times![/hide]

When replying please make sure to clarify the article you are replying to! Thanks!

If you spot any typos or mistakes in an article then please PM them to @tripsis. :)

Enjoy the articles!

This was from the article on the decline of players:

There is one graph[1] , dating back to the introduction of EOC, it shows that we on average have 30% 07 players and 70% the live game, with maximum numbers online at once at a given day peaking at 40-50k, on a slight downward trend. This really doesn't tell us much either, since the payers on at 12:00 are not all the same ones that are on at 12:01 etc. The conclusion I get to is that we do not really have numbers, so we can only go on our own observations and ideas.

I don't see how this is a problem. Runescape's popularity and liveliness and server populations have always been measured by this standard, why change it now? It's true that, technically the people online at 12:00 are not necessarily the same as those online at 12:01, but since we have always used this standard, there is a level of uniformity and consistency. When the numbers were much higher, you could have said the same thing "sure, there are 100K players online right now, but those online at 2:00 are not the same as those online on 2:01", but the point is that in absolute terms it's been a decline, and that's important. The statistic is useful, and it's consistent.

What I tried to put across is: A. this graph is rather young, so its limited in how far back it goes. and B. If people play less time per day the numbers in this graph will go down, but the total number of players will not.

So question two comes along: Why are these numbers down?

Because MORPG's are slowing dying off and everyone's playing first person shooters?

First of: excellent sigpic, beyond that.. who knows.. in my experience shooters have always been popular, I myself have played them for like 20 years.. starting with the original Wolfenstein. It seems competition is rising massively in all genres of gaming that are popular enough to make money on. There are many, many more shooters, like there are many more MMORPG's I tend to think there is room for both and much more and its more a matter of getting a large enough slice of this pie.

t shirt suggestion

little old lady, wearing some armor and a large wep maybe the hammer from battle of lumby, some pulp in front of her

RuneScape reminds me how to BustaMove with a big smile of course

Or a old man with same armor pieces and a godsword, in front of him something cut in half or more

RuneScape proves i can still cut the mustard

lol ok update the words but you get the idea

then there is the same idea with a young person but they say something like "and how big of a noob did you think i was?"

as far as making things easier on new players.... we used to help them with armor and food and advise.. that dont seem to be the case anymore

you try and find it's a repeat player just looking for what you will hand out, more more more... or worse yet they a bot....

course there are the dumb kids that insult ya for trying to help em sometimes... or how about the hopeless ones that ask, you give clear directions but they still want you to lead them there =(

Sadly my hellhound ate it...

It got soaked when I summoned a Geysertitan..

The wise old man stole it..

A teleporting accident landed it on an alternate plane..

Sorry couldn't resist..

In reality i don't really know..
