Behind the Scenes - November 2013

This month is all about your suggestions! 'Can we have these features?' you asked. 'Can you do something cool with the Barrows Brothers?' Oh boy, have we delivered…

D&D Tracker

This month we'll be adding a brand new way of tracking the important daily, weekly and monthly Distractions and Diversions all over RuneScape. Gone will be the days of wondering when you can next go and raid a sinkhole, thwart troll invasions, build statues, chop down an evil tree or perform amazing feats of acrobatics at the circus - just check the D&D Tracker!

This new tracker can be seen in the Adventures interface on the Minigames tab. You’ll be able to see quickly which activities you can replay now, or how long it will be until they reset. You'll even be able select your favourite D&Ds and keep them together in one handy list!

As a launch-week treat, we will be handing out daily rewards in the form of replay tokens which you’ll be able to pick up from the challenge Quartermaster in Burthorpe. Each day you’ll be able to earn a token to reset a daily activity of your choice, plus a random replay token for one of the other glorious D&Ds!

It’s something you have suggested as an in-game feature for a while now, and - as you know - we are keen to give you exactly what you want. Hopefully that will give you a few less things to worry about while taking on those vicious Barrows Brothers.

Buckets of Improvements

Talking of your suggestions, we’ve been busy combing the forums, fan sites, YouTube, and wading into the primordial soup of creation to find a fantastic bunch of improvements to the game. These are all things you’ve told us are important to you… so we’re adding them to the game.

This list really is huge, but here are some of our favourites:

The ability to clear any slot via the cosmetic overrides (so you can choose whether or not to display any of your worn equipment slots in non-PvP areas).

The ability to add notes to individuals listed on your Friends and Ignore lists.

A funky new log-in animation.

Graphical improvements to a selection of emotes.

New achievements for your adventurer’s log.

A new “beam of light” animation when you get a drop worth over 1m.

Milestone fireworks when hitting achievements over 99, like reaching 25m XP.

Activated auras will ignore “deposit all” in the bank.

Drag-and-drop mouse movement in the bank and beast-of-burden inventory, allowing easier bank sorting and inventory management.

We will also be making a large improvement to the Coinshare System. We're making these changes because the current system is forcing the price of certain items to behave differently than the “real” market, and we're confident that our upcoming changes will solve these economic issues. Stay tuned for more information!

We are also making some big upgrades to the world map. We know it’s sometimes slow and difficult to use, so were making it faster to load and more responsive. We’re also adding some new region labels to help you find the content you’re looking for!

Barrows – Rise of the Six

In the past, we have gone back and revisited older boss monsters - graphically improving them, adding hard modes, refreshing drop tables - but we decided none of that was enough for our favourite and most replayed bosses in the game. They deserved something bigger, badder, tougher - something worthy of the brothers. And Sliske was happy enough to oblige.

Barrows - Rise of the Six

Since the start of the Sixth Age, Sliske has been busy playing with his new-found powers. Tinkering around with the Shadow Realm is fine for a hobby, but after irritating Gielinor’s most powerful beings, he’s in need of a little more muscle. Lucky for him, then, that he's gotGielinor’s finest Third Age warriors on his side.

Yes, that’s right. The Barrows Brothers are back - tougher than ever - and this time they're working as a team, waiting to take on groups of four adventurers hungry for a beating! They have a wealth of new abilities, tactics and a truly horrifying new capacity to deal damage. To keep things interesting, the brothers fought every day will change; meaning you'll have to stay on your toes and adapt your tactics . You didn’t think it would be easy, did you?

Rewards for this brutal exchange of might vs wight include full set of deliciously spiky level 90 melee power armour. You’ll also be able to earn fantastic new level 90 shields for all three combat types - check them out below!

Level 90 Shields

In a strange twist of fate - no doubt caused by some strange combination of Sliske's magic and some graphics artists who like a challenge - we’ve even managed to create a range of strangely cute barrows pets. Look forward to them terrorising your local bank soon!

Solomon's Store

Just in case you wanted to look pretty while visiting Death, Solomon’s got a few new items to cheer you up! Wrap yourself up in a timelessly stylish mummy outfit, don two new showpieces from our talented artists -the Ogre Infiltrator and Drakefire (complete with awesome wings) outfits - and coo at the cuteness that is our unicorn companion pet, as requested by you on the forums.

Have fun!

Seems a like a nice month from what they've posted thought I did lol a bit at t90 melee power armour from barrows.

Of course it is too early to judge truely but it seems as if the t90 power armours are going to end up matching the t90 weapons.

As in t90 melee kinda easy to get and thus reasonably cheap (reasonable in the context of an overinflated economy where most high end stuff is rather stupid high prices)

T90 ranged its doable for the average joe, but kinda takes more effort in less rewarding places so costs more than melee by a good margin.

T90 mage just off the charts cause the boss that drops it is not rewarding enough for the vast majority of players and thus doesn't come in to circulation as much as it really needs too.

T90 power armor, probably degrades to nothing

And will probably be so ridiculously expensive, and boss (coinshare) mechanics so stupid that most high levels won't be able to obtain it again.

So yeah, a one update month with the update probably being something only billionaires can do.... Won't this be nice?

Level 90 shields are the only thing that interests me.

And it only interests me in the sense of are they actually any good with the port's armor.

I bet the spirit shields are still better because they have a damage reduction and this whole armor percent versus crap system doesn't seem to amount to a hill of beans like pre-EOC system.

Also, if they have to copy WOW with all this raid shit, can't they actually copy the good parts of WOW.

You know like dungeon finder and the immersiveness of the large zones and dungeons that actually take time to explore.

Part of me is wondering if the BTS was lame because of the announcements that could come out of Runefest

Having watched that video I have 2 main thoughts:

1) OMG Thoose barrows pets are adorable I want them all.

2) It sounds to me as if coinshare is being 'removed' from direct drops kind of in favour of a lootshare style given out top end item that can only be traded and then when traded the trade value (either via direct trade of ge) get auto-coinshare out.

Aka bypassing the flaw of it being unusable if ge value isn't right and instead acting as a tool to remove the trust trade element out of sharing it non-coinshare ways.

This seems like a good month to me.  A lot of improvements and some high level pvm content.  I'd rather have that than some filler quests or another nooby minigame.

best drops (reasonably accurate/up to date): 1x Elysian Sigil (LS), 1x Arcane Sigil (cs), 4x Armadyl Hilt (solo at 100m, 100m, 50m, and 5m), 2x Saradomin Hilt (solo at 25m), 5x Draconic Visage (34m,1.2m,1.2m) and various cs/ls/ffa Nex splits.
Drygore Drops: 7 Longswords, 3 Maces, 3 Rapiers, 3 Off-hand Rapiers,  5 Off-hand Maces, 3 Off-hand Longswords

ROTS Shields: 12  Seismics: 16

Ascension Crossbows: 6  Spider Legs: 10

Countless Armadyl armour pieces, Saradomin amulets, Dragon Hatchets, and Fremenik Rings.
Range~Herblore~Construction~Constitution~Defence~Farming~Magic~Attack~Prayer~Strength~Summoning~Slayer~Mining~Dungeoneering~Firemaking~Agility~Magic Mastery~Summoning Mastery~Cooking~Smithing~Fletching~Thieving~Hunter~Woodcutting~Fishing~Runecrafting

welp, there goes the last of the ports armors, lol

at least this time it's a little more lore ish

Implying the ports armour were all that useful before t90 armours...

In reality all ports armour 'went' as soon as power vs tank came in to being when in 99% of cases it became Nex > GWD > Port > Barrow

We were also owed a quest for this month (they said one quest per month for the rest of the year). So much for that.

I hope they degrade to nothing

If the melee power armor doesn't degrade to nothing, it'll wreak havoc on the economy.

That and it would completely defeat the purpose of EOC

EoC is already ruined. With bosses that most of the intended target audience can't do, billions of GP needed for things like T90 Mage, while T90 Melee is super cheap, and very little for players to be able to do to obtain money for T90 stuff -- it's not much left to ruin.

If they can fix CS, then perhaps there will be some hope left as we will all be able to do things like Vorago then.

I think everyone greatly overestimates the value of T90 mage. If you can make the armor itself, it costs about 80m for a set. And 60 hours of combat is a long while. Sure, it's not viable for slayer/training, but it's very likely you'll make more than 80m during that 60 hours if you use it for bossing.

And Vorago really isn't nearly as hard as people make it out be. Meeting the gear requirements is difficult, as you need either full Virtus, Torva+Drygores, or Pernix/Ascension Bow to do it. But actually killing him is not all that difficult, once you get the strategy down. And with seismics entering GE price ranges (wand is right around max cash atm) and the future changes to CS, many more people are going to be doing Vorago in the near future.

A lot of small fixes as well as one 'new' boss? Well, at least we get some cool new shields, pets and armour. But really, this is a bit sparse for a whole month, at least according to me. Still good enough to if they do it in a good way.
