What is the magic notepaper, and how is that useful?

I went to the RuneScape wiki and this is the description:

 

"When an un-noted item is used on it, it will convert all items of the same type into notes at the cost of equivalent magic notepapers. To use it the chosen item must be used on the magic notepaper and all items of that type in the players inventory will be noted."

 

How exactly is that useful? Usually when I'm training a skill, it's so easy to go to a bank, that I won't need to make all the items in my inventory noted as I can just go to the bank.

 

Can someone explain to me how exactly this item is useful? Making all items in inventory noted seems pointless to me as I can just bank the items instead.

Lets you stay at some place slightly longer without having to bank. Frost Dragons are a good example, as they're not that convenient to reach and if you don't have a yak, you can use magic notepaper to stay there longer while you collect more bones.

note you can use noted bones on yak/tort/bird  , not sure about amount , i managed to put 25 on yak

Wait a minute, I think I now have it.

 

In the past I found it uncomfortable that I only could kill four steel dragons per trip since I always pick up their steel bars.

 

But with this item I can make the steel bars noted so I can kill more steel dragons each trip.

 

Yeah, that's what I'll try doing the next time I attack steel dragons.

It's for the smithing skill.

 

When I kill monsters I pick up gems, bars, ores, etc. so I can use those things later on to make things.

It's his play style to partially DIY certain things. It may be more efficient to do things differently (like leaving bars and getting more kills per trip for better gp/hour) but it's his choice, and should be respected as such. (Not aimed at you specifically, but at the forum community as a whole)

No need to get all preachy. We can't memorise and store the play style of every user whoever asks from help anywhere on the forums. Yes not everyone may want to take the advice of the most efficient way to play, but people are only trying to be helpful when they bring it up (unless it entirely contradicts the question asked) since generally speaking most average players want to be reasonably efficient and do find it helpful.

You might try the Brimhaven resource dungeon (80 dungeoneering). It has steel dragons and an anvil, so you can smith them into throwing knives (or whatever) on the spot.

Thats actually pretty good advice. If steel titans are ever getting more useful again I might go there (they require steel plates). Surely I can kill 4 steel dragons faster than I would smelt 20 iron + 40 coal into 20 steel bars for example. Thanks!

I've been using my notepaper to bank abyssal charms. They drop faster then I can yak bank them, and they are about 3.5k profit a charm...

Nah, I'm not gonna get upset over any of the advice I got, or ignore it. I might have done it in the past, but I don't wanna be like that anymore.

As for how picking up steel bars is stupid. Yeah, it might be a better idea to leave them on the ground. But the truth is I wanna do in the game what I find most fun, not necessarily what's the smartest thing to do. And picking up the steel bars and make them into steel platebodies is a lot more fun than leaving them there.

Yeah, you have to keep in mind that people besides the OP read these threads, and posting misleading or incorrect information can negatively affect them
