It's still roughly 6 of each basic crew, 4 merchants, 3 judges. Sacrifice any basic crew for a wisp instead, if you like.

Yep. I'm substituting a seafaring one for a wisp. Another good thing about the wisp is that it helps to train other crew.

I haven't studied *all* the potential  voyages yet, but I would thought replacing Morale would have been better as you still have the merchants, and (I think) there's still some sort of SF imbalance, though if there aren't as many good voyages for SF I guess that doesn't matter.

You are getting crew for the shield anyway, not the loop. Sefaring because the seafaring hull has only 200 speed.

Jay, if you can't get them at the start of the loop, and noone thus far has(even with hunderds of rerolls in beta) it's safe to assume...

Levi ring is maybe 2-2.5m. yeah...

Well, i guess the "herd" is just finishing their trio voyages now and thus the supply is arbitrarily high. In any case, i see no reason to sell levi rings. It might soon be better to use left-over pearls on repairs.

I've been wondering why the ring gets 12 hours of combat before degrading. One notion was that its an all class (used more often for multiple setups). It also might activate more often with multiple enemies attacking as well so the extra hours are to compensate?

Major derp incoming in 3, 2, 1... DERP!

Yep.

I thought about switching out two jade totems and replacing them with cherrywood trees. Then I thought farming the material for them wasn't worth it.

I should have either my merchant or wisp tonight. Which of the two are worth getting first?

You should, just in case, calculate whether you are able to afford a wisp at all, particularly if you do alot of trade good voyages and have no cherry trees. Don't just assume you are able to afford everything(because many won't). Anyway, since my progression has dropped to an expected 31k cotta, I switched to 3 cherry one jade. Now only doing long voyages i'd i need to due to time constraints.

I'll probably go on the safe side and get the merchant first then work on CSM. Having the wisp sitting there on hand for higher will suffice. I got three jade specticles rotting away anyways.

Well I'm out all 4 scrolls for ring and finally at Loop... -.-

Right now it's looking like I'll just try to do story missions as they come along, scrolls if at all possible, and maybe some trade goods but only if they're from adventurers, and terracotta everywhere else.

First Barmaid was steel... :|

Kinda glad I only send out one set a day. Means you all have figured out most things already!  ;)

I've had my scrolls completed for a couple of weeks now, prioritizing them from the beginning seemed like a good idea. Especially after I found out what the Loop mission reqs are.

I made it to the loop today in time to catch the barmaid's gossip before reset. Thankfully it's 'cotta but I can't send it out yet. I've sent my last adventurer story mission (Trapper Finale) with Jade Merchant, a FOTS and boosted it up to 100%. Should put me around 95 pearls.  ;)

I had a choice of scroll or trio 2 today.

Given I'm like 9% from Loop I thought I'd best go scroll even though I wanna clear trio since it can't get harder but scrolls can lol.

Crew. Xpx makes an excellent point some pages back that crew members gain stats over time where ship upgrades don't, making it better to start your crew as soon as you can. They wont take that long to level and surpass your Pincer crew members, the first few levels come quickly if I recall from earlier regions. That's relatively, of course.

I dont think the issue is because crew upgrade over time (you gain the upgrades of a hull/ship part immediately, while crews you'll have to train them, which in the case of loop they don't yield any stat benefit, until level 8, before which you actually have a downgrade), but if you compare the cost of terracotta with the cost of the crews, the net result of the upgrade by going with the crew is higher than that of any ship part.

For example, a set of Loop cannons (Overwhelmingly Large Cannons) cost 3500 terracotta, a normal loop crew costs 750, which is approximately 5:1 ratio. A set of cannons offer an upgrade of 800 stat points, while a loop crew at level 10 offers around 600 points of upgrade. So from cost of upgrade point of view, crews are decidedly cheaper.

Doesn't come without a cost though, as I have mentioned, the crews do not offer any upgrade until level 8, before which is an actual downgrade compared to a level 10 pincer crew (this point is rather moot if your crew in question is not level 10 pincer crew), so you'll have increased chances of fails (which leads to your crew not leveling). Also most crews would eventually get replaced in Shield, while the loop ship parts (except for the rudder) are all end game ship upgrades (best combat deck upgrade, best SF hull upgrade, and best morale/sf figurehead upgrade), so these ship parts are going to be on your upgrade list regardless of what you do.

Considering, if done right, we don't run into a shortage of cotta, it's not a question of crew or ship parts but rather when to get them. Regardless of what boost they give, getting ship parts first is idiotic unless you assume you won't be able to get all crew/parts.

Chenw, it's level 6 to be equal(it's actually already equal at level 5 because of JoD). God i swear every single one of the people arguing against getting crew first get's this point wrong.

I'm 30% toward shield, but i keep failing the terracotta missions, I only managed to buy the rudder, terracotta merchant and a loop morale... If this carries ont he way it does I will reach shield region before getting all the ship upgrades without any more crews.... I also keep failing the trade goods and scroll voyages... which still add to my distance travelled, which is rather annoying...

I like to think of the Dark Bow like a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) - you get one shot and then you're screwed.
