Shield is proving the bane of my existence, like a fortnight in and only been able to buy 1 crew so far.

 

I'm sure I'll get there in the end, hoping I can strike gold with some good captains to help bump %s up - only got a cmb one so far, pretty decent only 1 trait tht was +sf so not perfect, but he'll do for now.

I've managed to replace all my crew with shield crew except for exiles. Still only 1 35k captain and he came with 3 useless traits...

Same exact position. Fast Learner, Fast Learner, and Slow SF 35k.

It has taken over 2 months but I finally managed to recruit a 35k captain with +3% and +40 trait... still not ideal but it's satisfying nonetheless.

 

Around a month after 3766, I am at the point where I have just decided to re-roll standard mcs crews for those +100 traits to use up some of that azure. Was wondering whether the type of lodging actually increases the chance for standard crews to acquire bonus mcs traits (awe inspiring, slayer, seafarer and etc.)?

 

On another note, my alt is up to Pincer...still yet to find the first lifeboat...pretty sure I've lost over 20 crews so far (even from 6-70% voyages on a few occasions). Is this normal? Or is it just me?

I have also wondered this for quite some time.

Obtained quest cape and base 92 before obtaining any 99s! Currently finishing out my 99s with the (long-distant) goal of comp cape.

Whatever lodgings do do the effect is pretty much negligible since no-one seems to have logged any tangible difference in crew with different lodgings.

I've noticed gaining many standard crew with those nice +100 bonuses since hitting Shield. Then again, I also got a "Cursed" crew for the first time ever so... I think it's luck :P

Lack of 35k captains pisses me off though -.-

Note that it's a Trapper mission under Standard Voyages. Odd.

 

EDIT: Sent out the Trapper mission and the Trapper left port.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

finally reached the shield, but i noticed that a lot of my crewmembers are just bad now (like oxhead and horseface).

 

What's considered the ideal crew now in the shield?

6 Moral Crew/6 Combat Crew/5 Seafaring Crew/4 Terracotta Merchants/4 Khanadarian Exiles

2 Moral, 1 Combat and 2 Seafaring Captains, one Seafaring captain with 4x multi-talented.

Biologist, Missionary, Whaler icons (Optimise Exile usage + bones best TG).

phew, that's gonna take a while (especially because the voyage for thos kharidian exile's is not exactly easy xd)

So I know xpx says to have 212 MCS Captains, one Seafaring captain with 4x multi-talented, but what traits should the other caps have? +100 or +1% to their respective stat?

Yeah it used to be +100 for pincers because for most (all?) voyages you stats were under 10k and 1% of 10k = 100 so under 10k 1%<100

But then in new regions you get past the 10k mark so the 1%>100

I'm back again looking for advice on my crew.

 

XPW's supercrew is

66544 MCS/Merch/Exile
212 MCS Captains, one Seafaring captain with 4x multi-talented.

 

Since 5 spots are taken up by engineers I just hired one less of each crew type

I'd replace one Sf crew with another Exile, and possibly a M or C with another Merchant (you really want a merchant on every voyage, other than scroll/non-resource story).

I'm sorry but what does the MCS/Merch stand for? I figure the Exile is the Kharidian Exile (perhaps Merch is for Terracotta Merchant?), but I have no idea what MCS is for. I'm only in the Pincers region so I might be missing something. I really don't want to have to go through 49 pages if I don't have to. Thanks. :D

I've been looking for the best way to start updating my crew once I unlock my next region so this will definitely help me a ton. :)
