About the xp question, it is generally believed that xp is in correlation with voyage distance. Level 3 should be somewhere between 4.8 and 6k and level 4 should be somewhere between 9k and 9.9k xp, but other than that, no deep and meaningful study has been conducted to look into the issue due primarily to technical difficulties in conducting such study. Failed voyages are believed to give between around 5 to 10% the xp of successful ones.

 

By my estimation with my cotta' merchants, level 10 should be somewhere around 300k xp.

It's well known Ports rewards were nerfed with Ports V2 release.

 

It's so well known that noone knows about it... Quit making stupid excuses. Random event awards were NOT changed with ports v2 update.

 

Capping does help in providing a higher chance at rare rewards. Anything to the contrary is complete BS. If you want to feel bad about your sorry self then do so without giving out false information. As i've already explained in this thread, there are very few random event rewards that actually give you a tangible advantage and thus it's just stupid to keep using up crappy rewards.

 

Unknown, i'm not swapping any of my previous captains until I get ones that i will keep. Consequently, I still have all 10k captains(have had 6 35k captains but all with 3 bad traits). Now also using captain rerolls, which i previously didn't want to do cause i have to give up my daily adventurer reroll.

 

Someone who avoids the HLF thread because it's "too elitist" obviously would not have heard about what has effected every single person who started sailing in V2.

 

I'm not alone with lacking lifeboats and the only people who have 4 are people who started sailing in V1. It's not "Wow, Champ Scrolls  must have been nerfed" because it took me 27k kills to get it. That's just bad luck and is in my own personal, isolated case.

 

4 of my friends who also only started ports after V2 only have 0-1 lifeboats. People on the HLF thread who started sailing ports after V2 also have 0-1 lifeboats by Pincers/Loop.This is either one hell of a coincidence that every person sailing in V2 has few lifeboats upon reaching Pincer/Loop or the more likely event that lifeboats got nerfed since nobody in V2 has obtained them anywhere near the same length of time as V1 sailors. The highest # of lifeboats of a V2 sailor I know is 4% to Shield and has 3 lifeboats.

 

 

As i've already explained in this thread, there are very few random event rewards that actually give you a tangible advantage and thus it's just stupid to keep using up crappy rewards.

10% more Rewards, 10% MCS, Crew rerolls when prepping 3rd slot while obtaining crew from new region, Capt. rerolls when in the 10k/35k regions all have uses.

 

Even if you have capped the rewards - if you do a minigame you'll simply get "more than you can hold". I've had 2 capt. rerolls and in my random event I won a crew reroll and.. 2 capt. rerolls that went to waste.

 

Hoarding your items doesn't increase chances of a lifeboat and it's plain out stupid to refuse to use any advantage on the merit that "no advantage is better than a slight advantage". I'll gladly send a ship out at 84% over 78%. That could be the difference between failing the mission and an hour on the docks.

I told everyone who would listen to cap their rewards a week into ports v2. Evidently noone listened. There after this subject has been brought up twice and again, i pledged everyone with any sense to do so, only to again be met with extreme pessimism. If i had any common sense i'd just keep quiet about the subject and enjoy the better rewards i get.

 

By the way, i got my first lifeboat only in the bowl region, which was after the only random event reward nerf there has been. Thereafter, after i'd capped all rewards except for voyage and adventurer rerolls, i got the remaining 3 in rather quick succession early in the pincers region. Since then i've also got lifeboats very regularly(even though they are capped), about 10 in total from the start of ports v2(even got one just today). Myself and a few other people that have common sense have gotten an adventurer reroll at around a 70% clip since the start of ports v2. You don't need to be a genius to figure out that capping works.

 

Also, my reasons for avoiding hlf are none of anyones business. I'd rather socialize with people of substance than those with atleast x-levels of grind, thank you very much. These forums are a prime example of that.

Because people in HLF say it does not prove anything.

 

Despite being maxed most folks in HLF are kinda 1 track mind, jump to say anything is nerfed at the slightest change of luck, think they know best and ignore advice from lesser types.

 

Frankly it is a veritable breeding ground for ideas like port random rewards being nerfed to take hold on as it it takes is 1 or 2 who know nothing about how capping it works to cry wolf and refuse to heed advice and then a whole pack will join in.

 

The only change they made to even rewards came well before I got 3/4 of my lifeboats and well before ports V2.

The new system for random event rewards is that at least 1 has to be something new. IE: You will never get "nothing". So if you cap everything but life boats, and keep doing randoms, you will get 2 useless and 1 lifeboat.

 

It's not that complicated. If your rewards are not capped you won't get lifeboats because they are incredibly rare.

I started ports on my alt just before V2 came out, and I have rewards capped. 4 lifeboats sofar and adventurer rerolls every other random, just hit pincers at the weekend.

It's not quite as simple as that- as i said, i have got adventurer rerolls at around a 70% clip while having both adv. and voyage rerolls noncapped, but i only rarely get voyage rerolls(perhaps 10%) and the remaining part of rewards is only capped items. Now with captain rerolls uncapped, i get those at a high rate there is a system of getting ~15 reward rerolls a day and those rerolls are stopped when you have atleast one uncapped item among the rewards, and getting nothing happens when there are no uncapped items among those 15 rolls, but that's just my theory. But rest assured, no doubt, capping works.

Sorry for taking so long to respond Xpx, I was waiting on some replies fromTwitter.

 

I'd like to apologize for using what little data I had from V2 sailors to guess that the drop rate was nerfed. The chances of 1 person having bad luck (me) is pretty high. For example, it took me 27k mummies for the champ scroll and I'm going on 610 days w/o a Phoenix pet. That doesn't mean those drop rates were nerfed.

 

However when 8-10 people (namely: my entire data pool) are having just as bad luck. I can only draw conclusions based on the data present. It happens that I was wrong. I argued heavily for it but two mods (Mod Moltare and Mod Doctor) told me otherwise. The chances of this seemed pretty slim, but I'll accept it as a coincidence. Those happen in life after all. 

 

However I'd like to point out that you made the same exact mistake drawing a conclusion with YOUR data pool. Just because it happened to coincide with the data gathered from your V1 playerbase. You argued vehemently about it as well, trying to put me down for it and make me feel stupid for trying to draw a conclusion with my data in a similar manner. I feel that isn't OK at all and I would like to ask for an apology.

So your whole data pool is having crappy luck with uncapped rewards, and the other data pool (xpx, soccerdies, kags, other big names etc) are having no trouble consistently generating their last uncapped rewards? :s

 

Maybe you could just try capping yourself and see what happens. Give up the +10% boosts for a while and see where it gets you.

I will say this, I was a firm believer that capping rewards had no effect on what reward you got, but I decided to try it based on xpx's experience and found that I get adventurer rerolls at a rate almost 10x higher than I did without capped rewards.

So you got 1 jmod to say the rumour exists without actually commenting on its validity and another to say he did not code it can't say for sure.

 

Well blow me, clearly all the data mining done on beta servers and all the forefront people in port completion and all the normal people using reward capping for the past year and a half are utterly and irrevocably wrong on the idea that they get the rewards they want much more frequently by capping.

 

As nice as those little jmods answers are they don't outweigh the body of evidence gathered on the ground in-game by hundreds of players over the past year and a half - a body of data which is by no means 'the same' as your group of 10 people doing nothing special and finding a rare reward to be rare, seeing as these people DID something tangible and achieved a tangible result from it on a large scale.

 

I mean by all means go and find a few hundred people and data mine random event reward returns on the beta servers with 50% having no rewards to start and 50% having capped out several and get a good few hundred thousand data points and show it doesn't work and then hark superior about how you were right with your vague jmod responces. But until then I'm gonna stick with what I have tangibly seen happen with mine own eyes and have seen several very well known metagamers within the field of ports report and keep my rewards capped so I can enjoy getting captain and adv rerolls most of the time.

Didnt think you could get 2 of the same voyages at once?

 

 

EDIT: So it turns out by sending both spice voyages it used up one of my adventurers. I also went through all 18 rerolls in the middle slot before I sent them.

Can some1 tell me what is the best crew for endgame (Shield).

 

48 pages are a bit to much to search trough. 
keep getting sucky 35k captains :(, when i get a 35k captain...

With the upcoming 30% bonus during part of May to the voyage rewards, am I reasonable to think this will stack with FOTS and TCM? I have been behind on Ports, but I am nearing in on my trio mission storylines.

Because if I couldd get 87 plates and lacquer from one mission...well I would be one happy fella.

Since we lack psychic abilities it is impossible to judge what it will do exactly.

It could be an extra bonus entirely, or it could be a modifier to a bonus (eg takes the place of FOTS) in order to function without altering the equations.

 

50:50 odds.

 

There's also the potential it won't effect story voyages and instead only effect repeatable voyages
