Jan 21st 2014 - Slayer Helmet and Social Slayer update

I never really used the enchantment part of the slayer helm. I always thought that after the EOC update that clicking the special ability button or the familiar action bar (with special ability action selected) used scrolls stored on the enchanted slayer helm.

So how exactly does it work? Or should I say how should it work?

Edit: And I agree the helmets should be saved on death by at least the grave.I'm guessing this might have been an oversight in checking the item details.

Helmet scrolls do absolutely nothing. I've done several tasks with 100/100 or 250/250 scrolls in my helmet and not a single one activated.

How it used to work, and how it should work, is that helmet scrolls activate randomly, for free (= not using up any special move points), thereby increasing dps, with the understanding that if your titan is on a low-health monster, the spec might go to waste.

Oh hm... well that's a bummer and something I think I've been really missing out on as far as using a familiar for a passive dps increase. Considering how long I've been playing and trying to keep in the 'know' of things that's pretty sad I didn't remember this. I always thought it was a space saver update.

it was always meant as a somewhat limited automatic defensive response system, although it's not really clear why anybody would create such a ridiculous setup that only activates (randomly) when you get bonked on the head and that it only works with offensive type scrolls

Well that's fine because I can see it being fine for the more relaxed slayer who doesn't want to go all pokemon trainer with their titan.

What I don't understand is why the sides are the redish color now... That is the part I hate most about it. The pictures they have up on the runescape wikia aren't redish either. I want to know how they were able to get it to appear this way. Maybe they could fix this odd coloring... If not I'll just have to continue to use my overrides.... And I used to like the slayer helm . . . -.-

If anything they should have made it darker. I don't like such bright colors on gear and it makes it hards to match to actual armor as well.

I like how due to all these recolours, types, enchanted and so on there are literally hundreds of ddifferent slayer helmets.

2 Slayer Helmets

15 Full Slayer Helmets

15 Re-inforced Slayer Helmets

15 Strong Slayer Helmets

15 Mighty Slayer Helmets

And arguably you could take 1 off of each of the 15s as plain colour doesn't really change much from uncharged to charged (much like the non full)

So we are talking 62 or 58 different helms (122 or 110 if you count the fused helms separately)

There are 25 different types of mighty slayer helmets and I'm sure there are more of the others as well.

My count was simple:

5 plain

5 enchanted uncharged

5 enchanted and charged

As they look different.

In the figures for counting of fused helms I doubled this up

10 plain

10 enchanted

10 charged

Hence 122 breaks down into

30 mighty

30 strong

30 re-inforced

30 full

2 slayer helm.

Has there been any word on a change being made on losing the helms on death or keeping the upgrades even if you dismantle?

Sorry, Mod Ana wants you to lose that stuff and pay again when you die.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

I would be so angry.

For real there has to be something to say or at least done by next update.

Which would not be as (key word: as) bad if the leading cause of death was something other than server issues.

Destroy on death is a bug no-no. Everyone knows that! If they just changed it I could live with this:

Q: Why not allow the player to permanently unlock the ability to make tier 3 mighty slayer helmets? I don't want my 1.5k slayer points to have gone to waste!

Mod Ana: With higher level equipment there always has to be some risk associated – otherwise it’d just be free stuff. Losing your basic Full Slayer Helmet and losing your Tier 3 upgraded one shouldn’t have the same penalty.

So basically if you have an unupgraded slayer helm it drops normally. But if you have any upgraded slayer helm whether it be tier 1-3 it gets completely destroyed? I do not think that's fair at all.

I can see their point about greater risk and having to re-upgrade but lost on death entirely is a joke.

If you die there is still the risk of losing it, but it should only be lost if it comes outside the gravestone and it certainly should not be outright destroyed. Replaced with unupgraded should be the penalty - you still have to do all the upgrading but you don't lose a few hundred k worth of helm construction items.

I think a better method would be to buy the ability to upgrade the helm and then require money (or maybe even black masks, focus sights, and hexcrests) to upgrade. That way there would still be risk dying with it, but you wouldn't have to get 1000 slayer points which can take a while every time you die.

My bad. If you die with the MSH, and it goes into your grave, it will be intact upon retrieval (but will lose all of its teleport charges). Only if you lose it completely will you have to rebuild it and pay again.

Well, that still isn't very good. If someone put all of their fero rings into that, well, they are in a bad spot wouldn't they?

Then don't put all your fero rings into it.

Which kind of defeats the purpose of having that helmet anyway... I don't want to have to withdraw a new fero every time, and the helmet enchantment pretty much fixed that, apart from the death issue.

Also as long as you stock signs of respite you should never lose anything from your grave.

Until Jagex's servers and/or your internet crash for more than an hour.
Yeah I could see that happen. I wish jagex servers would have a fail safe were the global timer was saved or something.
