Treasure Hunter

Free players and members

Treasure Hunter - our reinvention of the Squeal of Fortune minigame - is here! With an improved interface and theme, prizes befitting your skill levels and handy new features to help get the prizes you want, Treasure Hunter's a great fit for RuneScape - and rewarding, too!

You can try Treasure Hunter out in-game now, by clicking the treasure chest icon that pops up on log-in, or through the Extras interface.

Read on for further details. Alternatively, log right in and give it a go!

What's New?

Open up the Treasure Hunter interface and you'll meet Alice - the Treasure Hunter hostess - who'll quickly take you through the new interface and the basics of the game.

If you're used to Squeal of Fortune, you'll feel right at home with Treasure Hunter. Everyone has at least one opportunity per day to open a chest containing a randomly chosen prize.

The chests are opened with keys, which replace spins and are obtained in the same ways: free players get one daily (two if you're a member, or three if you're a Gold or Silver Premier Club member), and you can get more through Daily Challenges, quests, killing monsters, non-combat skilling, and certain minigames. You can also buy extra keys through the website.

Please note that any existing spins you had left over from Squeal of Fortune have automatically been converted to Treasure Hunter keys.

The range of prizes on offer is similar to Squeal of Fortune, but you'll find that the prizes you receive are aimed at your current skill levels. Your prizes should be of immediate use in your skill training, and we hope you'll want to cash out less frequently and keep much more of what you win.

That said, we've added a few new prizes to the roster: lucky versions of the Bandos helmet, Armadyl crossbow and the garb, gown and hood of subjugation, as well as an all-new mimic pet!

mimic_news-04110106.jpg

To help you get what you want from Treasure Hunter, we've introduced Hearts of Ice. Prizes are categorised by the skill they're related to, and Hearts of Ice allow you to 'freeze' these categories when you next open a chest.

For example, say you've maxed out the Cooking skill - you could use a Heart of Ice to freeze the Cooking category, to guarantee that your next chest contains something other than a Cooking-related item. Each time you open a chest, you can use up to 10 Hearts of Ice to freeze different categories.

To get you started, we've given you 100 Hearts of Ice right away. You can get more through Daily Challenges, or bundled with Treasure Hunter keys bought via ourwebsite.

Enjoy!

We've designed Treasure Hunter to be in keeping with the spirit of RuneScape. We hope you agree that it's a good match for the game, as well as fun and rewarding.

If you have any questions, please head over to our FAQ. As always, we're eager to hear your feedback. Let us know your thoughts over on the forums.

The RuneScape Team

How to start Treasure Hunter:

Click the treasure chest icon that appears when you log in. Alternatively, access it via the Extras interface.

Requirements:

None, although members get two keys per day, and Gold and Silver Premier Club members get three.

Demon Drop Table Improvements

Free players and members

Demons came out on top in our recent Diamond poll on drop table improvements. Today, those improvements are released, so everything from imps to tormented demons will - overall - drop better, more valuable loot. While some potential drops remain the same (imps are still fond of cabbage, for example), you'll find fighting demons to be much more rewarding than before.

This includes two new weapons: the abyssal wand and the abyssal orb. These baleful beauties are made for dual-wielding mages of level 75 and up . They're non-degrading, and can be used to cast the Slayer Dart spell. Each weapon also has a one-in-eight chance to reduce the rune cost of any spell it casts to zero, much like the staff of light.

abyssal_weapons-04111055.jpg

The new weapons can be obtained as drops from abyssal demons, but only while on a slayer assignment to kill them. Note that a Slayer Tower contract from Markus does not give you the chance to obtain the drops.

Drive back the fell hordes - and enjoy more shiny loot while you're at it!

This just made buying out skills even easier, now that you can freeze out up to ten skills.  Bought some keys and got a massive amount of summoning bonus XP.

Also, it said I won the treasure hunter mimic but nothing showed up in my bank or inventory?

Yeah, but how often do you get frozen hearts?

Think this has been an issue since citadels existed.

Just attempted a run on a 150 pop world (was previously able to do 1k pop worlds).  Supreme would respawn around the time I would have killed rex, let alone killing prime.  So much for tribridding...

Honestly, this was the standout point for me. Inb4 theres another change next week.

Idk but when you buy keys you also buy a ton of hearts.  So more buying = more freezing.

WTH is all that garb :o

I find that more terrifying than a girl who's apparently flirting with me in order to give me money... That just confuses me :S

Yeah, but look at those packages.  If you wanted to buy out a skill, buying 450 keys is also buying you 300 (1 heart used per skill, max 10 frozen skills per key) treasure prizes with 10 skills cancelled out.  Probably saving you a ton of money in the long run.

Strongly recommend that you take a gem bag to black demons, they drop a LOT of gems.

Don't know about all the other demons the drop thing has affected, but I'm liking it. Then again, I always do get excited when anything over 1k appears on the floor. I'm still a noob at heart.

This new treasure hunter thing is weird, though. Don't know how rare those mimics were meant to be, but I have seen a lot of them around already.

So anyone knows if tormented demons drop something that is worth picking up? (as for normal drops)

Demons

Abyssal, Imps, Lesser, Greater

Although it would seem like black demons were also buffed, but idk if TDs were part of the list to be buffed.

There's a rumour floating around that TD's drop only mainhand or offhand claws at a time now. Can someone confirm?

Makes sense since their value skyrocketed.

what setup were you using?

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

CR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size.
...
It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).
