Oh boy, yet another awesome poll!

Genuinely can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

Most probably sarcasm. Knowing Yoko :P He probably thinks the poll is unimportant.

Some of the conversation is getting blurred from jmods talking about projects that are both polled and team projects.

Here is some interesting ideas on what they are considering for ports:

21-Oct-2014 16:21:05

Ignoring any other potential rewards for the time being, I'd like to ask you all about pets a bit more deeply. (A pet is not yet a definite reward either, just gauging interest/ideas.)

There have been a bunch of interesting suggestions already.

Do any of these sound appealing?:

-mini golem (reskins for each golem type in ports = 8 variants as of now)

-mini Oxhead and mini Horseface (either separate pets or combined into one)

-mini Shuma (possibly based on a bake-kujira)

-a mythical beast from Ports-adjacent real-world cultures (the obvious and the not so obvious)

Personally, I'd opt for something that exists in Ports, not just in a real-world culture that Ports draws from (e.g. an oni might make for a cool pet, but there are no oni mentioned in Ports).

My favourite idea is the mini golem mostly because we could (hopefully) give it 8 skins, which allows for more personalisation or to show others your progress through Ports.

It might be something we choose to poll, but that hasn't been decided yet.

In before new poll: 'Should we poll this?

The mini golem and the progression idea sounds cool.  Of course I can't access ports but if I did I would find that appealing.

The pet reward for Ports sounds interesting.

And knowing Jagex... you'll probably have to go on voyages to unlock these pets, and they'll probably have insane requirements like scrolls =_=

Well given the basic setup of ports is:

Voyage gets materials

Voyage gets instructions to make things in 4 parts.

Make things.

It'd rather be a curve ball if the pets were administer through any means other than obtain 4 scroll parts to unlock the ability to make them from trade goods.

As of this posting, the top three winning options for Zamorak's crack squad of heisters is Nomad, I Don't Mind, and General Khazard

an unrelated character and an abstract concept are beating khazard

i am starting to think that this is just an extended exercise of sarcasm on jagex's part

You know that the golem pets are going to be various quantities of resources (i.e. bamboo golem requiring 500 bamboo). I cant wait to see the requirements for the azure golem. Im guessing 40k azure. Im also thinking the golems would probably cost additional resources like chimes, laquor and chi. Chime sink anyone?!

To bad souls bane isn't going to win. Would have liked more info on the god zaros imprisoned and used to power a world gate to bring over a demon army.

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!

It would have been a twisted version of the quest and more than likely just for the sense of humor more or less and not much of a serious tone.

The trouble with a Soul's Bane for me is how much would really be that different in this adventurer free reality?

Zaros would've still come, the rift would still exist the same kid would presumably of still gotten lost in it.

There no sort of fundamental preluding event to the quest that can't/won't happen without the adventurer there.

Where as quests within the city itself can be fundamentally changed simply by the fact Zemergoul took over the city.

I'm not a fan of Jagex's ideas about player-driven content. Players can be useful for developing creative new ideas, but they often don't know what they really want until it's given to them. It also makes Jagex seem really directionless and noncommital - a tendency reinforced by recent update history.

Decisions should be made by the people making the content and they should have an over-arcing idea of where things are headed, in general. Allowing the players to make these decisions suggests leadership issues within Jagex. Hopefully these will pass after the transitional CEO period.

Yeah, what's going to happen when Gertrude's Cat wins? A whole city full of stray cats because Fluffs didn't get neutered?

They must realize that the reason everyone is voting for Varrock and Gertrude's Cat is that this is exactly how they pitched it when introducing the quest.

I feel like this is going to be a waste of nomads return.

I was thinking this as well. Are they seriously considering compromising a promising plot line in favor of fan service? I suppose since it's alternate reality it won't have much bearing on other quests, but it seems a little strange.

I think you have two quests confused. There is a 200th quest coming thats much like RFD with multiple miniquest sections. The discussions going on about the alternate universes using a souls bane and other quests refers to that quest. The 199th quest is zamoraks heist which currently we are voting on his top three picks. These characters will play in an Oceasn 11 like scheme.

You're right, I thought the character voting was for the 200th quest. I think the questions about whether this is the right choice for Nomad's lore are even more potent given that the quest is taking place in our reality. Was Nomad even a Zamorakian to begin with? Can a quest that bases its supporting character narratives on a player poll ever be anything more than fanservice?

Honestly, we never really knew what Nomad was. There's no real lore in game to tell it, and the only confirmation that Lucien was his former Master was one dev response in a Q&A. So it could easily fit fine.

I think the quest could be more than fanservice. They already know several characters that they're putting in the quest regardless. There are a bunch of Zamorakians that could fit fine no matter which is picked so why not leave that up to players.

Again 200th quest is the warped heroless quest. Zamorakian heist is with nomad and such.

On topic with your post the warped heroless quest could offer more than just fanservice. We have yet to see where this stands. This quest could stand either as a stand alone, lore based or be almost pseudo-lore based like rfd.

Helring's talking about the Heist quest, not the 200th. Plonking Nomad in as a Zamorakian is rather unexpected.

I voted for the Shield of Arrav since it is a core quest for beginners in Varrock.

A Soul's Bane was the one with Tolna, right? That's a quest I'd love to see them revisit in some way; great concept and even better execution (especially for 2006), but it's probably up there with The Fishing Contest in terms of being forgettable. Still, a "twisted version" of that quest would be perfect.
