RuneScape Road Trip - Starts 1st May

Get ready for a RuneScape Road Trip! From 1st May 2014, 1am BST, you'll have a whole month to complete 20 special tasks, earning XP aplenty, a hiker's outfit and a cheeky monkey pet.

Each weekend, there'll be an awesome bonus event, giving increased XP, drops, minigame rewards and more - plus, there'll be tons of fun stuff scheduled in the RuneScape community.

May's a great time to be a RuneScape member. Read on for more information, or log in then and speak to Challenge Mistress Fara.

Let's Hit the Road

Challenge Mistress Fara

Head over to Burthorpe and chat to Challenge Mistress Fara, who'll give you the run-down of the how the road trip's going to work, and hand you your road trip journal. This lists 20 tasks, of which you can complete one per day throughout May.

We know May's a busy month for many of you, so we've made the RuneScape Road Trip accessible and flexible - you'll be able to enjoy it, even if your time is limited. The tasks are varied, fun, and you can complete them in any order you wish:

Complete a Dungeoneering floor.

Complete a Slayer assignment.

Complete a Treasure Trail.

Equip a full outfit of cosmetic gear.

Do a dance on every bridge over the River Lum.

Fletch 100 bows.

Smith 100 bars into anything.

Make 100 runes.

Burn 100 logs.

Complete a quest, or Tears of Guthix.

Rest for a minute.

Complete a full round of Heist.

Complete a full round of Castle Wars.

Run from Shantay Pass to Uzer without any waterskins.

Bury 100 bones in a graveyard.

Kill a demon, goblin, or goblin raid boss during a flash mob.

Survive in the Wilderness for 10 minutes.

Complete a round of the Cabbage Facepunch Bonanza minigame.

Feed 10 breadcrumbs to a duck or a drake in under 20 seconds.

Gather your daily limit from divine locations.

They're rewarding, too: you'll get an XP lamp for each one you complete - usable in the skill of your choice. At 5, 10, 15 and 20 tasks complete, you'll get a piece of the cosmetic hiker's outfit, and at 20, you'll also get the cheeky monkey pet.

If you can't make it for 20 days, or if there's a particular task you don't like the look of, help is at hand! Our friendly JMods will be in the game throughout the month, and will be able to stamp tasks on your journal, granting you the completed task and reward.

Keep an eye on the news and the forums for more details of JMod visits and community events throughout May.

Working for the Weekend

Each weekend in May - and for the whole last week - we'll be holding a big bonus event. These will be themed around certain skills or groups of skills, and will include big XP boosts, double drops, increased minigame rewards and more, plus loads of community events and activities:

10th & 11th May - Skiller Weekend:

Double XP and reputation at Artisan's Workshop.

Increased node spawns and reward points at Runespan.

Double gold relic, sceptre and Black Ibis drops at Pyramid Plunder.

Enriched divination nodes spawn every 10 minutes.

Fishing spots stay in place twice as long.

Divination wisps last twice as long.

Mining nodes and trees replenish twice as quickly.

+50% base Big Chinchompa XP.

17th & 18th May - Minigame Weekend:

+1 Castle Wars gold ticket per game.

Double points from Stealing Creation.

Double points from Pest Control/Conquest.

Double Zeal from Soul Wars.

Bosses killed in Dominion Tower count as two for the purposes of reward unlocks.

All Ports voyages return 30% extra trade goods or resources, until the end of the month.

Ports offer 25 voyages a day instead of 15, until the end of the month.

3rd & 4th May - Slayer & Combat Weekend:

Double Slayer points.

+50% base Slayer XP.

Expanded drop tables for Kalphite King, Giant Mole and Barrows - Rise of the Six.

All charm drops offer an extra charm.

Double amounts of all rare drops, and the ring of wealth doubles in effectiveness.

26th May - 1st June - Dungeoneering Week:

Double dungeoneering tokens, including Sinkholes.

+50% base Sinkholes XP.

Each Friday, we'll give you full details of the weekend on the RuneScape news feed. Keep an eye out for your favourite skills and activities, and get involved!

Enjoy!

Every RuneScape member gets access to all of the above throughout May. Have fun, and be sure to let us know your thoughts over on the forums.

I figured since its no longer an update teaser, there should be a thread to discuss anything that comes up about it.

Few things, first of all I like that they brought back partyhat firemaking as a reward.

Second, when it says you need to gather your daily limit from divine locations, thats your full limit. Some of the higher tier locations that cost X3 or x4 units of your limit may stop short of actually hitting your limit. You'd need to seek out a mithril rock or something thats only 1 unit per item to actually hit the cap.

I like that you can pick which challenge you want to do on any particular day, makes it less demanding for people who have some long days with work or school.

Some of the tasks seem pointlessly tedious though, like the Wilderness one or burying 100 bones so I might find myself paying a few visits to JMods on my days off.

For anyone confused about the JMod Stamping:

> Open your road trip journal

> Click on the challenge you don't want to do

> Select JMod support

> Check RSOF/Twitter to find out where the JMods are

> Stand still in their location and they will eventually stamp you (they walk around and have some stamping radius which is apparently 9 squares).

For at least the Wilderness one you have to set the task as active in your journal before going in the Wilderness.  It will then update you every 1 minute until you complete it how long you've spent.

Going to miss all the weekends as I have class all day on Saturdays :(

Yea, you need to activate the task for all of them before it will check them off. I think its so that you can make sure you only check off the one you really want to for the day. Like how some players may automatically cap divine locations on reset everyday, but thats an easy one and since they happen to have extra time that day they want to do castle wars or something, this way they can still do their daily divine locations without having to delay it till cw is over.

Most of the tasks take 5-10 minutes max and there are only 20. So even with a tight month its possible that you could still get them done

So if you do familiarization this weekend at waterfiends, you get 3 x (1 + 1) = 6x charms? Sweet.

Seems like you can both do a task normally and get a Jmod to stamp one completed, in the same day. Though you might have to do it in that order.

I'm not sure if you have to have the book with you in order to get a task completed normally/get it stamped complete by a Jmod.

Also, the stamping schedule is not up on the forums yet.

Obtained quest cape and base 92 before obtaining any 99s! Currently finishing out my 99s with the (long-distant) goal of comp cape.

It was up earlier but has been taken down. It used to have various different locations and only 1 j mod at a time. I think they're changing it to multiple j mods each on a different world and in lumby crater to reduce the lag.

Somehow I doubt that it'll work like that, they'll be discrete bonuses most likely.

I'd expect a 1 charm drop with both bonuses to drop 4 charms

3*1 for familiar bonus

+1 for the weekend bonus

A 2 charm drop I'd expect to be 7 (3*2+1) etc.

The divine location thing will probably trip a few people up but tbf if you use your common sense chatbox would alert you to whats going on, you get a 'you can't collect anymore from this type of divine location' message opposed to a 'you have used your daily allowence' message when 'capping' with high level ones that cannot 100% reach the limit.

Seems like those weekends will be really worth it. The roadtrip itself is some good variation as well, even though as I mainly view it as an addition to the daily challenge system :p.

Yup, I mean, if it seems obvious to you then it means it had to be obvious to everyone else and it's common sense, right?

They should just change the challenge to complete whenever you cannot collect anymore from whatever you were collecting from, tbh.

Or at least make it clear that they haven't actually met their limit.

Just because I think common sense/a bit of thinking could alert you to what you've done 'wrong' does not mean I think it is obvious, hence that is will probably trip people up.

It just means I think that given the information presented to you in-game it is reasonably simple to spot where you've gone wrong if you do hit that snag.
