WRITE FOR THE TIMES - SUBMIT A GUEST ARTICLE:

Remember, YOU can write an article for the Tip.It Times! You can apply to write full time, or just submit a "one-off" guest article any time you want! Our editors will work with you to ensure that your article is ready for publication. All guest articles can be submitted to @tripsis or any other Editorial Panel member. For more information, including details on how to apply full time, read this forum thread: http://forum.tip.it/topic/209138-how-to-write-for-the-tipit-times/

I'd like to remind people of the rules pertaining to Times threads:

[hide=Read these rules before posting in this thread]

Rampant flame wars have taken control of virtually every week's times discussion topics. The following guidelines must be followed when posting on this topic. Posts that ignore these guidelines will be removed.

1. You are invited and welcome to express like or dislike on articles and a particular author's writing style. It is not acceptable, however, to flame or personally insult an author. Posts that aren't anything but an attack will be removed from the topic.

2. Spelling and grammar errors can be reported to tripsis by PMing her and they will be fixed promptly. It is not necessary to post them on the discussion topic.

3. Off topic posts that do not discuss the content of that week's articles will be removed. This is not the place to discuss the direction of the times, how much you love or hate the times, etc. Off topic posts will be removed.

By keeping within these guidelines, Times discussion topics will mean more for the Panel and Administration than just a place for flame wars. Flame wars do not provide any useful feedback to the Times, which is mainly what we're aiming for with these topics: feedback.

This policy is effective as of now, November 17, 2010. Any posts prior to the creation of this policy may or may not be removed according to the new guidelines.

[/hide]

[hide=Submitting Crossword Puzzles]If you want to submit your own crossword puzzle, it's quite simple.

Simply provide a word list (about 10-20 words) with their corresponding clues. Then, message @The Floating Pen with the word list and it will eventually be published in the Tip.it Times![/hide]

When replying please make sure to clarify the article you are replying to! Thanks!

If you spot any typos or mistakes in an article then please PM them to @tripsis. :)

Enjoy the articles!

And i'm starting to doubt that they even want it to come back. Stripping revenants from Brawler gloves :'( didn't even bother looking at droptables and buffed them (and yes i'm aware of Beta and PvP armour getting improvements/Reworks)

Doubt much will happen to it, better of going to OSRS. I mean look at that update

looting bag?

all the bosses, all the resources, teleports to mb, new cave,

it's like they are trolling xD

There's so much potential in that area, shame they're stuck on combat mechanics in 'RS3'. Like legacy will fix anything, what a gimmick.

See, the MASSIVE problem Jagex has, is that they simply REFUSE to put anything in The Wilderness that you cannot get anywhere else, because they are afraid of the deluge of complaints about unfairness etc. Since they won't step away form than, The Wilderness remains dead.

A prime example of this is the list of stuff they want to do here:

Bear in mind that the barrier for entry for any wilderness content is going to be much higher in RS3. You can't just go in with a couple of weeks worth of training and 3-400k in gear and expect to come out competitive anymore.

I'd hate to be a naysayer here, but they lost their shot at the kind of wilderness that old school PvPers long for during the four years where the death of the wilderness was enforced. If they wanted to revitalize it, they should have done something then.

Agreed...

Hence putting in something essential AND unique is the only way to make it happen...

Would scaling be an idea? Say, cap the effectiveness of levels/items in lower levels of the wilderness, to make something like the first ten levels the "jump in and play" area where you don't need anything stronger than rune (kind of like how it was before), while the area past the members' fence could have no restrictions, going with the whole "high risk, high reward" theme.

Not on its own, of course, but something to go along with any other reworks. Something to capture the accessibility of the old wild, while still rewarding players for takig risks at higher levels?

Perhaps specific pvp only armour might help as well. Stuff able to be smithed froma few rune bars but would count as tier 80 or 90 for pk'ing in the wilderness purposes...and scale that down as needed for the other bar types?

R.I.P. The olde nite. A legend is gone but not forgotten.

i heard about mod pi trying to fix the core loop. (getting armour, getting food, getting supplies, PKing, winning/losing, rinse/repeat)

"For PvP that core loop involves you going out, PKing until you lose your gear and then having to and do activites that are not PvP get get your gear back, that can take months sometimes. Not very good when you just want to do some PvP!

What I am hoping to add to the game is some fun, safe PvP through the current PvP minigames and one more I have been making on the side which will award you low to mid level PvP armour. This will give you the ability to go and do PvP get get entry level PvP gear to get back into the wildy with. How long it takes to get this will of course be balanced against the time it takes you to get current gear but at the very least you'll be doing PvP while getting more gear!"

However so many obtainables have now lost all their value because of the tiersystem... why not balance those back in instead of adding more :P OHHHHH WELLLLLL

Smithing rework would do much good aswell. I hope someday it'll be something like farming/herbore: Untradeable ingredient, sellable endwork. Boss monster/Revenants/Lucky find from skill spots in wilderness that drops it...

Just play OSRS, it's not coming back

But 07 is dying as well...

Just about every single thing on the development blog for the wildy enhancement is falling into the same trap I posted a few posts above...

  • 3 years later...

""There are already many boss monsters with valuable drops in the rest of RuneScape. The risk vs reward equation is never going to come anything near the chart of what exists already in the rest of RuneScape, simply because of the risk of losing your high-end gear."" <--quoted from article

:o yeah you're right. Just run right in [the wilderness] and feel good about it sometimes- that should keep up the "value" of it even existing. It looks good. It's creepy- it's fun- and it's full of rewards. Have fun with it and then you just may get the hang of it, right?

Good Luck!  :-D  :-D  :D
