Jagex Stance On Multilogging - Changed

Recommended Posts

Hmm the limited slots for GE are a pain and I can see why this might be very hard for f2p accounts. So, basically despite the title of this thread nothing has actually changed.

GE slots should be locked based off of total level.

Of course, once you get max total level and a trimmed comp cape, you are able to access the GE backend to dupe air runes and black santa hats.

Update on this:

Rule Update and Clarification

Recently there has been discussion on the RuneScape forums and social networks regarding two rules – Multi-Logging and Account Sharing/Selling. We need to take your feedback on board and be sure that the rules are relevant for RuneScape as it is today. We've reviewed your comments, and in collaboration with the Customer Support and Community teams, have updated the rules in these areas.

In short, we're OK with multi-logging as long as it doesn't involve rule breaking or gameplay exploitation (read the full rule here); and on Account Sharing/Selling the message is simple – don’t share, don’t sell and don’t buy accounts (read the full rule here).

From a player perspective, if you think that you might be breaking a rule, or what you are doing is not in the spirit of fair play, then you are best off avoiding it as this could result in action being taken against your account.

Ultimately, we don’t want to stifle genuine game play, and we hope you’ll agree that this approach is best for all.

Rules of RuneScape

Mod Pips
Executive Producer
@JagexPips

Updated Rules:

Multiple logging-in
You are free to create as many accounts as you like and you are welcome to trade between your accounts just as you would with any other legitimate player.

However, if any of your accounts obtained wealth by rule breaking activity for example macro use (botting) or real world trading (buying gold or items from 3rd parties) then all your accounts will be banned.

Similarly, multi-logged accounts must not interact with each other to exploit gameplay mechanics, such as attempting to rig the result of a minigame.

Trading wealth or items between your own accounts is done entirely at your own risk. Unconventional trade methods like drop-, death- or trust-trades are particularly risky and we strongly advise against them.

You may log into multiple accounts across all versions of RuneScape at the same time, however any account you are using must not be involved in any rule breaking or exploitative activity. Any penalties or sanction for such behaviour will be applied to all of your accounts.

Why do we have this rule?
We have this rule as part of our procedures to monitor and deal with people who choose to real world trade, gold farm and use macros. People who move wealth between accounts they own and have gained that wealth unfairly or by breaking other game rules can expect to be banned.

Buying, selling or sharing an account
Each account should only be used by one person. Never share your account with anyone else, doing so will likely get the account banned. Players may not sell, share, transfer or lend their account to anyone else. Players should not accept an account that anybody else offers, as they may be stolen, and this could lead to your own account being disabled!

Why do we have this rule?
We have this rule for a number of reasons:
- We have this rule as part of our procedures to preserve the integrity of the game and player’s hard earned achievements. The hiscores are there to measure the achievement of an individual, not a group of players or 3rd party. Also, if disputes occur or friendships breakdown, it can lead to at least one of the parties permanently losing access to the account or having it stripped of wealth and items.
- Additionally, many of the accounts on sale are stolen, and people who share accounts run the risk that the person using the account won't give it back, or that the person will break a game rule causing the account to be banned or muted for which the account creator will be accountable.

So in that clarification post, Jagex is saying that you can't rig minigames with alts or game mechanics. It's such a blatant case of favouritism and selective enforcement. Several first page highscore players, and famous twitch.tv streamers (iTrolledU, and Dragonsceance) openly use alt accounts to boost SC - J Mods are friends with them, watch their streams, and fawn at them at every opportunity. Are they going to get banned or disciplined anytime soon? I doubt it. There are threads talking about this on HLF, and some abusers are openly defending themselves (such as Dragonsceance). However, I know for a fact that if I or any other normal players were to attempt this and we triggered some automated detection set up by Jagex or if we were reported by some player, we'd probably be banned in 2 seconds.

Jagex has no interest in enforcing this rule if you're a famous or affluent player - it's a sham. It's only illegal if you're a normal player.

I would guess that if those players continue to do so after this point, they'll get smacked; I think Jagex took a rather lax approach to the whole situation because they (that is, Mod Balance) were unclear about what exactly the rule was and how it was enforced.

My point still holds

If you ever want to play any dead minigames at this point (e.g. GOP for master rc robes), you must use alts, or else you can never find anyone to play with you.

Jagex either needs to change the amount of people needed to participate in the game, or be more clear when they say "game mechanic rigging". Either you rig, or no one plays the game at all.

But they were doing it before Mod Balance made his infamous clarification. They knew it was against the rules, but they did it anyways because they figured Jagex was too lazy to actually enforce the rule (just as Jagex doesn't really punish Castle Wars boosters anymore). That's not really an excuse, and it was clear to them and everyone else, that it was indeed against the rules.

It was against the rules, and the high-profile-ness of it made some relevant mods reconsider whether or not it should be against the rules, especially since those aspects of that rule weren't being enforced internally anyway. And since Mod Balance confuzzled everyone they decided to give blanket amnesty while they figure out how exactly they wanted to change things. I don't think that's surprising or bad.

I totally don't agree with Jagex changing the multilogging rule and think it's a dumb decision, but given that they are changing it, and that info got leaked before they were ready, I can understand why they've responded the way they have. If they now don't enforce the rules they just changed, then I'll be upset, but I haven't seen that happen yet.

^ Well GOP played to purposefully earn points is done 50:50, so it wouldn't be quite as bad as finding a team to lose.

There is an FC for fog that usually gets ~20 in most evenings from people seeking the minigame armour or w/e else.

Soulwars also has a couple of remaining fcs iirc, but that is the hard one until they revamp it to be worthwhile.

There are FCs for everything you've mentioned, dig around on the RSOF to find them and use them.

If they didn't want players to multilog minigames, Jagex should let the solomon/treasurehunt team make some good-looking rewards for minigames to attract players. |^_^|

Or you know, increase the rate at which tokens and reward points are gained within these minigames.

Remember double minigame weekend? Castle Wars, Pest Control, Soul Wars, Conquest, Stealing Creation, Dominion Tower, and especially Livid Farm were extremely busy throughout both days, when most if not all minigames are pretty much dead on normal days. Had Jagex doubled token/rating gain for every single minigame during that weekend, all minigames would have extremely high traffic. This should be permanent imo.

The problem lies within whether or not the rewards are worth the time taken to obtain them, and currently many of them are not. Increasing point gain helps with this.

(And reducing amount of people needed to start a game too)

You guys think making the rewards better will DETER people from multilogging them? You do realize most people are not multilogging because of a lack of people, but because of how much easier it is to manipulate the results right?
