Congratulations Stev <3!

I don't see this as a benefit for the tipit community or website.  Stev has refused to criticise RWT in the past and put across his views that there was nothing wrong with it.  His views go against the spirit of the game and legitimises cheating for anyone daft enough to follow his word.  A big no-no! :shame:

My views are my own. I have my opinions and can voice them just as you can. My leader position doesn't change this. I still hide posts leading to botting or RWT websites and ban the spambots who post them just as I have been for years. While I don't criticize RWT, as you said, I also don't allow it, or users encouraging it, on these forums. Just as a police man may not agree with every law in effect, it's still his duty to enforce them.

I shouldn't have to mention how little my opinions affect my website (non-forum) role.

A policeman would be "expected" to be critical of lawbreaking as part of his duty.  Goes with the territory. Anything else would be undermining his own position and that of his force.  There's no such thing as a contrary opinion when you're "on duty" as such, especially in public.  You're undermining your own position when you say something in one hand and then start removing posts that break those rules with the other.  Privately, do/say what you want but when you're "on duty" you're supposed to represent a community who want to play the game honestly because they enjoy it.

You are just taking this way too far. His "lack of criticism" isn't the same thing as "open endorsement" in this situation. He is still doing his job enforcing the rules of these forums; and if he has an opinion that conflicts with the rules of the forums, he should be able to express that as long as he states that the forums as a whole (and Jagex) do not support his opinion... Which I'm sure as a responsible staff member, he has. And if I'm going to be honest here, this isn't the first time you've called someone out just to start an unnecessary flame war. It just makes me laugh when I look at your signature (since I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to laugh at irony).

“I had a feeling we weren’t coming back from this fight when it began.”

“Do you have any regrets?”

“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”

“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”

“Mmmhmm.”

Our moderators are free to express their opinions the same as any other user, within the boundaries laid out in the forum rules, and certain restrictions that come with the office. We see a clear distinction between our staff expressing their personal opinion as a user, and criticizing site policy in public. Giving our staff as much freedom to post as members of the community as we reasonably can is important to this site. We not only allow it, but encourage it, because we believe the moderating team should be part of the community.

Stev displays great initiative and is a capable leader in addition to being a quality moderator. I can assure you that his work for the crew and moderation teams benefits the site.

A congratulations topic is a horrible place to do diss a moderator anyway.

Given that there isn't any administratively-sanctioned place to disagree with staff appointments it seems this is as good a place as any.

There is, and it's encouraged to contact the administrators privately and has been encouraged via the rules and word-of-mouth for over 4 years if not longer.

And if the issue is with overall moderation style rather than complaints about specific mods or users, forum policy has always been encouraged for discussion in the Forum Updates and Suggestions board.

I'm sure as a former moderator, you can understand that people usually make mistakes and forget things like that. Or maybe they just didn't know, and will remember from here on out.

It's a perfect place if you're a troll~

I have drawn conclusions in what I have seen posted (being very polite about the content).  We all draw conclusions on what people say, or what they will not.  A few episodes of Judge Judy will give you a very good idea of what I mean. Just as you draw conclusions on me, I’ll do the same.  I'm not here to flame Stev but I am challenging both his opinions and the decisions to promote him.

The irony that you missed is that the siggy doesn’t contain trolls, It’s the anti-troll brigade (note things like pitchforks).  Just a light-hearted prod at the customary accusations of flaming/trolling that attempt to stifle debate here.  Draw your own conclusions.

I assumed that leaders lead from the front and that others will often follow their lead. They do not just influence the staff teams but the general community.  Whether good or bad, opinions are also customarily followed, as the gospel by some.  Whether a moderator is a great person is irrelevant.

In some ways I do get it – This isn’t RSOF and you want to give the staff more freedom to express opinion. Some opinion doesn’t mirror the spirit of the game, which is about fair play.  Are we supposed to be a gaming community of players who want to uphold those values and if so, shouldn’t that start at the top?

Congrats Stev.

As far as all the other convo in this thread. The decision was made... if you dont like it then leave. He sets an example on the site in many ways and has proven it through his actions. Thats all that matters. Part of what is great about Tip.It is that we have always maintained a staff that is diverse in life and opinions. Yes, people do follow leadership and they will follow all his great qualities on staff. As mentioned, this isnt the RSOF and I hope it never becomes like that... I mean if it was, comments would have been removed long ago.
