Kimberly
I personally stopped playing casually about a month or so after OSRS was released to invest time in my alt account Dorelei. But even though OSRS has stayed somewhat steady in players it's still nowhere near what it was when it started out. I'm really hoping the free to play trial will attract enough interest (following their work in better botwatch for OSRS) to help change that somewhat. Yeah I know legacy is coming out for the live game but the OSRS still has a lot of charm to it beyond simple nostalgia. Has anyone here even tried the trial yet? Powerfrog
I've been playing OSRS none stop since it came out, and I made a F2P account in the trial to join in with the F2P hype :D I'd love for more players to come into OSRS, it's been really awesome meeting people that have NEVER played any version of runescape before in their lives but were somehow directed to old school and they actually prefer it not only over RS3, but all the other modern F2P mmo's out there now days. For those unaware, OSRS isn't simply a perfect copy of the game from 2007, they've actually added tons of brand NEW content that never existed pre-eoc and doesn't even exist in RS3. It's really it's own game and it's amazing how much work the small jmod team put into it. (We have new weapons, bosses, minigames... There is talk of a new skill coming soon, even a new land mass 50% the size of all of the current map to be added into the game. Really major stuff.) sees_all1
Created an account. Sad I couldn't use my main's name as my alias, but oh well. Went through the tutorial and contemplated what I should do... The thing I liked about pre-eoc was player killing, but even if it takes off and stays free beyond the 2 weeks I don't know if I want to grind to decent stats. Too much time is invested in my RS3 account. 99 dungeoneering achieved, thanks to everyone that celebrated with me! ♪♪ Don't interrupt me as I struggle to complete this thoughtHave some respect for someone more forgetful than yourself ♪♪♪♪ And I'm not doneAnd I won't be till my head falls off ♪♪
sa121
Best part about the trial: F2P pking scene is back. It was impossibly to find fights post level 80 in the F2P style worlds before the update, now 381 is a hub for pvping at all levels. I hope it stays this way. 1 R.I.P Shiva and The Old NiteVisit My Huge Goals!!! <---- Click ThisMy Pk GalleryGWD: 3x Saradomin Sword, 2x Saradomin Hilt, 2X B Boots, 1x Tasset, 2X B Plate, 2X Shard, 1X D MedTDs: 3x Solo Claws, 1x Solo Armour Piece99 Untrimmed HP, 0% Pc'd and before Soul Wars -- Trimmed July 1, 2009First Untrimmed HP Cape to 96 summon, top 300 to 96 summonProud owner of the strength, magic, range, and hitpoints capes.Spa_Ins/LOLCANADA on IRC. Kaur
I won't be playing until they give me the stats I had back in 2007 back. Plain and simple. Way too much grind to access the only content I'm interested in(High level pvp clanning) I simply don't have that time and I don't plan to quit rs3 to free some. Artemis1330
I won't be playing until they give me the stats I had back in 2007 back. Plain and simple. Way too much grind to access the only content I'm interested in(High level pvp clanning) I simply don't have that time and I don't plan to quit rs3 to free some. I was originally in the same boat. I jumped right in when osrs was released. Quickly got dismayed by how long it'd take to get my stats up. It was compounded by the fact that it was 100% brand new; prices for supplies were expensive relative to amount of gp in game, etc. However, I stuck with it and I am now 120 combat with 99 mage/range and 87 slayer. It's even faster now with things like nightmare zone being basically free and 100% afk. You just have to get over the hump and it goes fast. Really major stuff.) This is absolutely the largest reason I love osrs. I, along with many others I'm sure, thought all I wanted was a replica of 2007-2008 game. But what the mods in charge have done is taken that replica and made it into what 2007-2010 should have been. They've implemented some awesome updates and changes. It's still the same osrs, just a million times better. It's more user friendly, zero bots, smoother game play. And it's only getting better. Things like the coming "trading post" for example. I was hesitant on having a G.E. style tool on osrs, but it's going to be a perfect mix of G.E. and old style trading. The best part about osrs is the Jmods are not afraid to admit failures. They are not afraid to ask for help. They are not afraid to say "sorry, that didn't work, let's remove it and go back to the drawing board". This makes me feel so much better about these updates, as I can trust that the will always be good for the game. 3 I am not a skiller, but i do some skills. Powerfrog
It's been great how active the jmods have been in getting player feedback and really checking that the players WANT an update before just throwing it at players. There was even a bit of contravery quite recently when the mods changed the name of one of the Falador drakes to "duckie" or something, after a famour streamer. A lot of players (kind of overreactionary) went into an outrage over this as it was not polled and they didn't like it for whatever reason, sure enough, the mods apologised and removed it from the game. JMODS APOLOGISED. AND UNDID SOMETHING. JAGEX EMPLOYEES! (old school) Runescape is finally a game that cares about it's players and more importantly, can own up to mistakes and do something about them. DeEliteOne
Welp, it took me all of 4 days for the trial to convince me to pay up a bond and get everything the game has to offer from subbing. Definitely has a lot of the same charm from back in the day and I am greatly looking forward to achieving on oldschool whilst grinding skills in RS3. Definitely give the free trial a go if you have any interest at all. :D 1 Inefficiency = fun. That's objective and can't be debated. Ever. @Dan3HitU
I suspect they will do more "free trials" throughout the year, possibly 2 more before the year has finished. 1 [-- DYNAMIC SIGNATURES FOR RUNESCAPE 3 & OLDSCHOOL 2007 RUNESCAPE --]
Saradomin_Mage
Eh, if this trial was successful enough, OSRS will get a permanent F2P version. 1 In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.
sa121
They haven't really given any solid information, but they're keeping a 2 week trial indefinitely. So if you make a new account now, you can play for 2 weeks before it's locked up. However, you can make a new account after that, and so on an so on. I'm getting the feeling this is what Jagex's idea of permanent F2P will be....
