I disagree. Compared to the others, I think they could have done better.

But anyone else catch Chris himself saying, "I've managed to do nearly a kill". Even he can't beat it. :P.

I thought he was saying that about at runefest and not in general.

R.I.P. The olde nite. A legend is gone but not forgotten.

It was mentioned during one of the streams that they'd beat them in Jagex HQ, just hadn't at runefest

I'm gonna have some fun fashionscaping...in about 1 year when I can afford the armor by not being terrible at bossing

Interesting that the shields don't degrade to dust and are upgrades to the DG ones, one way to attempt to give DG some beyond t80 longevity.

Of course horribly floored in that shields are utterly useless at present, but a gesture at least.

4 Chris Ls would have beaten them, but the other 3 mods on his team weren't that good. Think 1 Stev and 3 Merediths on a team.

I wanted to see Chris L trying to multilog it at Runefest, but the computers were arranged badly.

I don't think he meant you upgrade the DG one. I think he just meant they are better than the DG ones. But perhaps I'm incorrect.

Shields are a straight-off drop from Barrows2, though it would have been a nice way to make them I guess.

I watched the BTS an hour ago, and can't watch it atm, but from what I recall (correct me if I'm wrong) he said 'it doesn't degrade to dust. It's essentially an upgraded DG shield.' which I gather to mean that it has the same degrade mechanics as the DG shields.

That is exactly correct and has already been said.

It would be good to assume that the shields would either require a gp cost to repair or the use of malevolent energy to repair.

They will be just like the Ascension Bows and Seismic Wand and Singularity. They will require cash to repair

  • 2 weeks later...

The (long awaited) Sirenic Scale drop buff and rebalancing the Chaos Giant drops should be in the next update. Let me know what you think!

I wonder what they're actually going to do with Chaos Giants, can't make them any less appealing I suppose

I'm excited for the shard drop change coming...

Yea, just remember that thats probably delayed till next week.

I'm aware, but I'm interested how shards might be unevenly distributed.

I guess an 83m torva plate split 7 ways might make a slightly odd number. Would jagex trunkate it or let one or two players catch a slightly larger chunk? That might not seem to be a big issue really as 83m/120 is roughly 700k per shard.

On the other hand I think seismic wand is like 2.3b right? So its shards should retain 120th of its value. With a 7 man team that's roughly 21.7m per shard. That means each player will get 368.9m and that lucky oddball guy will get 390.6m.

Frankly all in all its an amazing coinshare update. We WILL be seeing players whine if they aren't the 'lucky' player to get the extra shard or if the system automatically trunkates things.

The next question would be if jagex has a mechanic that automatically puts that odd shard or so in the GE to sell and dristribute the cash via the old coinshare method.

https://twitter.com/JagexJack/status/401376164066762752 From Mod Jack "Excess shards are given out at random."

which does pretty much mean, in the communities eyes, that it is going to be unfair for extremely large base value items like siesmic wands and singularities. But frankly that's ok with me.

Why don't they just have a larger number? 2400? That would work..

It goes evenly into 1 2 3 4 5 6 8 10 12 15 16 20 24 25 30 32. Not 7 9 11 13 and 14, but I can't imagine groups being that large

I would imagine that they have a slightly short sighted view on this. We have to remember their scope of mass bossing is around 10 players. They'll probably chalk those oddly divisible numbers as variation for dedicated PVMers. They probably thought players would feel more special to have received that odd shard from a new high end boss worth 21m or so extra.

120 also goes into 1 2 3 4 5 6 8 10 12 and 15, teams of 16+ would be far too rare to account for. If you wanted to add more options, you'd have to go up to 840 first (x7) because you'd want to cover teams of 7. The next stop is 2520 (x3) to cover teams of 9 as well (remember you were already divisible by 3). 2520 doesn't split into 11 without remainder, but 27720 shards seems like it would be a bit much, no?

You have to draw the line somewhere, 120 is fine. It's easy to see how many more shards you need without a calculator, that's worth something as well.
