2014: The year Jagex handed the inmates the keys to the asylum. I can't wait to see how big the population of "I'm afraid of change" players vote no down the line on 100% of the questions ever.

For reference: OSRS polls.

OSR is run mainly by the players, which is VERY good. As someone who no longer plays it...the amount of changes players voted in there make it much more player driven than rs3, by a long shot

It's a very bad thing when the players make questionable decisions like this.

Because Trouble Brewing is a dead minigame and allowing more players to access it doesn't in any way give any unfair advantage to anymore nor does it break any balancing.

The players w/o Cabin Fever completed wouldn't be able to access Mos'le Harmless, as usual.

It's not like they're giving everyone free access to the island without completing the required quests.

Literally only good things could have come from allowing more people to access Trouble Brewing and the community goes and ruins it.

Letting us vote on everything - good move.

Pitting updates without any sort of similarity or connection (eg invention and elf city) against each other - bad move.

Pitting two updates that are both highly wanted and both some what promised for the coming year against each other both with etas of july/august implying one won't make it in to 2014 - ruined the whole idea.

Also the focus on high level content concerns me; unless of course in this focus they intend to transplant 2 of seismic, ascensions and drygores (and kinda sirenic etc. too) to new 'high level' content that ACTUALLY makes all 3 balanced in terms of difficulty to acquire. After all it's not like you designed a combat system wholely dependant on tiers being balanced and therefore, by proxy, all/most items within a tier being obtained by equal mean and then screwed it over at the first opportunity by putting the level 90 gear across 4 different bosses (plus a bunch of slayer monsters) that are all at completely different difficulty levels....oh no wait yes you did.

Oh, please. Most players are far more informed and up-to-date than Jagex is. It's more like Jagex just took some power away from the inmates (i.e., Jagex) and gave it to people who might do a better job.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm at odds with this section of the forums enough to think it's an awful idea.

Yeah but this is recycled content or content to appease a nostalgic and less-than-progressive update community.

The updates coming are legitimate game updates and reworks. You need to understand rs3 is a piece of artwork that eventually will get new additions and touchups to accommodate for newer updates.

If RS3 is a piece of artwork, OSR is a pearl that is being polished to near perfection. A single pearl. Not a pearl necklace, like rs3, but a single thing, being tweaked to be very nice.

That said, they need to delay inventor until drygores, seismics, and ascensions are all equal to obtain.

If they aren't going to make vorago a bunch easier, make KK and ascension bosses a thousand times harder.

Jagex's this or that questions have a tendency to be easier than "cake or death?"

Fun fact: The RuneScape quest release schedule was the inspiration for the dragons in Game of Thrones. Always on their way, never quite here.

  • Invention vs Elf City: our biggest and most anticipated updates. Which do you want first?

ELF CITY PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!

Whilst I want the elf city they fact they seem determined to seperate it from the elf quest line in terms of release hugely concerns me.

It's like they've had us working away from all these years with this mega plot that hinges entirely on not being allowed in to the city and the city being reverted to seed and they are just gonna go lol no here it is! And do a hack job on underground pass onwards plot content to explain it away and thereby utterly ruin the elf series before the finale happens.

That or the finale for the elves will arrive and alongside it the entire elf series will be made into 5th age flashback quests to allow everyone and their mum in to the elf city without doing jack but still trying to make it cool and special that we 'unlock' the city via the quests.

But then should we really be surprised when they made such a bad job of ending the dwarf series? Good quest in of itself, but utter rubbish as a finale in that it left like 50% of the plot threads unresolved, and like 99% of those it did resolve was through very dismissive dialogue or weird twists rather than an actual resolution plus it just heaped on a bunch of its own unfinished strands.

Elf City is going to win by miles, I think the majority of people don't mind waiting for this second skill if we get a quest we've waited... too long for instead.

In the end, they're both going to come out, and prioritising the Elf quest is the best move, as I'm not sure if people can cope with the Elf quest delays any longer.

It seems stupid to ask for a vote between two pieces of content that design-wise should have been in-game already, because they are important parts of ongoing (*cough*) storylines, those being Elves and Sixth-Age.

[hide]Prediction of content for 2014:

  • Inventing, which will be as grindy as Divination, but costlier.
  • Six quests, two bad, two mediocre, two good.
  • Fifty SoF promotions.
  • Fifty new Solomon's wares.
  • A world event, mostly grinding and no tactics.
  • Twenty patch note-worthy 'updates' with no lasting impact on the game.
  • A disappointing elf city, again with no real impact except a tick faster bank/ge tele.
  • A skill rework, but it'll be really unbalanced for the first few months.
  • No EoC changes, no rebalancing.
  • A new way to spend money on the game.
Of course this is a list I made so that I'll be glad to be wrong, but still. I'm having trouble estimating how low my estimates of Jagex' ability to design a game should be.[/hide]

Everybody seems to make the same mistake:

Elf city does not mean elf quest.

During runefest they specifically spoke of looking at ways of releasing the elf city, including releasing each of the 8 segments separately and only 1 being linked to the quests, everything else said on it had no hint of the quests at all being mentioned. Implication was even made of it being purposefully open to all due to the whole Seren 6th age milarky.

Independantly of this they said they would be working on the next elf quest with it aimed to be the 200th quest at the latest.

All signs, the brief glimpse of poll topics included, indicate that they have indeed separated the city from the quests - if it was going to be the quest, which then gave us the city, it would be billed as Inventor or elf quest/elf finale, but this is specifically billed as the elf city only.

I can't really accept the elf area as a hub until you're either able to permanently disable the elf traps or just take transportation to the settlements.

I barely visit shilo village and that's with the cart

(question: how will the old quests function if people are able to get to the elf city without the quests)

(it would be like allowing people to get into the gnome settlement without completing that quest first)

Tried to screeny this as best I could. Buying double drop weekend.

Edit:

Main thing I got from the video wasn't that we'll decide what comes into the game, but rather when (what we get first). That's not really power to the players, in my opinion. We'll probably see all the cool updates pushed out first and then a boring few months. :P.

Doesn't really seem to be anything interesting there they are all quest folders prefixed as quest_x

And they all seem to be for stuff we already have:

Garden - Garden of Tranquility

Generals Shadow - The miniquest

Gertrudes Cat - Quest

Giant Dwarf - Quest

Glomem (I think) - Glorious Memories

Goblin Diplomacy - Quest

God Emisarries - The tasks

Golem - The Golem

Grand Tree - Quest

Grim tales - Quest

Handsand - The Hand in the Sand

Hauntedmine - Quest

Hazeel cult -Quest

Holy grail - Quest

Horror - Horror from the deep

Humble Roots - I think they referred to one of the tutorials as this, maybe the newest one; probably they only slight question mark I've got

Hundred - Given the quest context Recipie for Disaster

Ice Mountain - Quest

Ict Little Helper - Icthalrin's Little Helper

Ikov - Tmeple of Ikov

Imp Catcher - Quest

Jungle Potion - Quest

Kenniths Concerns - Quest

Kharshai - miniquest

Kings Ransom - Quest

Knights Sword - Quest

Land of the goblins - Quest

legends quest - Quest

let them eat pie - Quest

lost tribe - Quest

lost city - Quest

love story - Quest

lumb cat - I'd guess short for Lumbridge Catacombs aka Blood Pact, or the mask miniquest thing down there.

lunar - Lunar Diplomacy

mahjarrat - Could be any number of quests (rotm etc) or simply a common data pool for the npcs to help ensure they get updated universally in all content, especially since all of them only appear/disappear in quest or due to quests.

making history - Quest

meeting history - Quest

merlins crystal - Quest

misc - Miscallanious stuff obviously

mm - monkey madness

That was from an old video wasn't it? I remember cuz I transcribed the code L

    // Chaos Tunnels (No Bork)
else if(inzone(0_49_65_0_0, 2_32_42_57, ???, ???); (some numbers might be off)
    {

    // Revenant Dungeon

    {
        $double_drops    =    true;

Ah, but most of them seem to be places where some things have higher drop rates anyway or have previously had double drop events.

Eg Chaos tunnels drop more charms, kbd and kq had double drops previously.

But then not all of them seem such I can make out

Chaos Tunnels

Rev Dungeon

Stronghold of Security

Falador Mole

Barrows

KBD

Kalphite Queen

Then last two are un-readable.

If they added the Barrows Dragon it would [bleep] up the lore in such weird ways... Current players who are up to date on the lore would know it was added, but newer players wouldn't obviously. It's really hard for them to fudge in that dragon right now without another quest, and even with a quest it would still be stupid difficult.

Sorry that's from a couple pages back, was multi-quoting and when I clicked respond to multi-quotes they all disapeared... #tipitproblems?
