There's way more globe-trotting in WGS than Plague's End, which definitely lengthens the entire process.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

I actually am surprised the Elemental Workshop or Underground Pass don't take the longest to complete.

They do, if you don't use a guide :p

I'm amazed no one has posted this yet. They just made a post about Invention (formerly known as Inventor)

The big news: It is not going to be a skill anymore, but an update to existing skills such as Smithing and Crafting to make items.

 

Here are the goals with Invention:

  1. To see players using, wielding and wearing a greater variety of items
  2. To provide a greater variety of items, to allow for more strategy when choosing what to use
  3. Players should feel a greater bond between themselves and their items
  4. Players should be able to manufacture items for themselves
  5. Players should have a greater ability to personalise their appearance and items

Also it appears they just updated the Forums, unless I missed something.

I am pleased with the route they are going with Invention now.

 

Takes the good stuff of the concept, along with a use for divination and delivers it in a way we can see stuff brought out sooner and not as a space filled skill that they dunno wtf to do to fill out the gaps.

 

My only pause for thought is if invention is going to be all about the high end of skills where we go beyond learning known things to invent out own things how are they going to neatly balance/factor in the low end of divination.

Ok finally got around to making a TL;DR for the twitch stream earlier this week:

 

Nothing really worth noting for the Legacy/EOC mashup.

 

Death System Rework:

- Anything that is in your grave wont require you to pay for it.

- Items that are normally degradable will still lose charges like normal.

- Items can be used against the reclaim cost such as dropped food.

- Items used against the cost use the same value determining factor (10% of GE value?).

 

Looting Mechanic:

- Relies on a loot radius of 7x7 (3 tiles in each direction) or loot directly under you.

- Looting window stays open even in combat.

- Must stay on top of loot or it disappears when not using the loot radius.

- Urns will still work.

- Will not work in some minigames due to making it too easy (soul wars).

- Will not work in warbands.

- Charming imp still useful as it doesn't rely on a loot radius.

- Hitting the beta servers early this week (possibly monday or tuesday).

You can set the monetary value from 1-100k. The values are something like 1, 5, 10, 15, 25, 50, 75, 100k.

Looting mechanic seems AMAZING!

Merciful made a post sometime ago in which he listed the energy type and amount of energy needed for each type of energy for what was then thought to be a new skill.  I cannot seem to find that post.  Would someone care to either copy/paste that post here or send it to me in an email?

So what is this looting mechanic exactly? Never heard of it before. Something to automatically pick up loot?

Exactly that... Pretty much what you have when playing diablo. A pop up window will show the contents you can collect from a 7x7 radius with you at the center. All you do is either hit collect all or select items individually.

Shark Attack Fishing outfits are coming out tonight apparently, with some notable benefits including increased fishing chance, auto-consuming fish (hey haven't we suggested this in a non-Treasure Hunter form before  :rolleyes: ), protection against LRC creatures, and so on. I suppose I'll try to get what I can with my free keys, those buffs sound nice...

I feel like Jagex should make a swear jar for Treasure Hunter promotions. Every time they stuff one of these things down our throat they have to in turn budget some of the proceeds to do something for us that is "impossible" or "too much work" to fix.

The problem with them is they work. They make people spend money because it is something everyone wants. So it in turn means they need to bring out more of them. It is a vicious cycle...

incidentally, since a prior release changed the BA deposit box into a chest, fishing urns are now selling for 5k each

Was BA a hotspot for crafting urns? I thought Prifddinas was the preferred place anyway.

Invention stream TL;DR by the infamous ItsSuity:

 

Invention

 

- Invention not Inventor

- Hard to make a skill that neglects lower level players

- Invention not being a skill makes it easier to expand the end game

- Invention will make skills like Smithing/Crafting feel reworked

- A greater variety of equipment (not just combat equipment; includes skilling equipment)

- Item fusion, Item levelling

- Will be skiller friendly

- Aimed at equipment T80+

- Increase the strategy of which items to use and when to use them

- Possibly player name on items

- Converse with your equipment

- Item sinks: Used to believe a lot of items left the game via death (not the case anymore)

- Div energy will be the 'currency' of Invention

- Could have an exchange system to make lower tier energy into higher tier

- Won't use only higher tier energy

- Any new content takes the economy into mind

- Won't be something like 'Destroy 25 Mhm to make a maxed out Mhm'

- No release date

- Not being a skill makes it quicker to release

- Will have multiple batches

- Will have a sense of progression (unlikely to be 99 unlocks all)

- Not time gated as far as PoP but might have some aspects that are time gated

- Time gates may be buyable to pass time or lower levels have a higher time gate

- No reason why invention will not feature in dungeoneering

- Won't be Livid Farm v2 (Mod Mark takes full responsibility for 40H of Livid Farm)

- Invention will give XP but too early to say if it'll have the fastest XP rates for things like Smithing/Crafting

- Inventor will not be the Elf City of 2015, things like World Event III will be

I am happy it will use item fusion, but not on the high tier end.

Am I the only one who read: "We're not going to screw with the economy, promise! But we're going to make t80+ weapons more powerful.." As if prices didn't get enough of a shock this week already. If they can balance this and do it properly I will give them many kudos but something tells me that it is not going to be so easy.
