I suppose to entice people to try it out they're offering double XP and $75,000 in cash, although I'm not sure if that's real money or the in game currency (if there is any?)

Has anyone tried it out yet? I'm currently trying to set everything up myself, I'll post here with my thoughts soon.

I've just briefly tried it out but i can't say i like it, the gameplay and interface seems weird.

Might give it another try some other day :)

Also it's not a MMO; they've also said they wouldn't implement quests and such.

We haven't released all of the content for Transformers Universe yet. We are still in BETA, even if this is Open BETA.

However, this is not a MMORPG. We are unlikely to introduce quests, roleplaying storylines or single player content as that is not what this game is. This is a game about recruiting warriors, learning how to play them and taking on the enemy in PvP and PvE matches.

According to Jagex it is;

I was just going off their website's info. ;)

I've played it a bit and it's ok so far. I'm not sure if I like the PvP aspect too much. From the little I've played it seems that players can attack you any time they want. I haven't died yet so I'm not sure what that is like but hopefully I won't lose anything that I might of collected. I think it has real potential to be a good game, let's just hope Jagex does it right.

more of a MOBA imo. I tried it day one but kept lagging out, then next time i tried it there was no decepticons to auto match a game 4/4 autobots vs 0/4 decepitcons. Looks promising and hoping my overall lag improves in future updates.

I tried it out a bit, seemed interesting and definitely looks promising as far as what Jagex will be able to do with Runescape with a C++ downloadable client.

The runescape client is written in C++

It's not. It uses JNI for native APIs, but it's written in Java otherwise.

Hmmm, while it seems like the graphics are a lot more advanced to what we have in Runescape, I can't say I find them well done. The Transformers themselves are full of colour and quite indistinguishable (although better than the sewn together metal garbage from the Bay movies), the whole environment has dull colours and settings. The contrast is too much, the one too vivid, the other half too plain. Some kind of lighting like the skyboxes we have in RuneScape would do a lot to help this.

Gameplay wise I cannot comment, as I have yet to try it out.

I like the game but I dont like the fact that i've crashed 3 times in 3 games which makes me not wanna play anymore.

Well you have to take lag/game crashes with a grain of salt. This is a beta and over time I'm sure they'll improve server stability/performance.

How did we get from that other game that I vaguely recall that was canceled, to a MOBA?

I find this a bit misleading since the preview for this game was a character creator, even though something like this does fit better into the Transformers style of having teams of robots fight each other for control over something.

Just tried it. Graphics are okay for a browser-based game.

Got past the intro mission and tried to do a PvP thing, managed to defeat 2 people before going down myself then... Apparently you don't respawn?

That is, unless you buy relics.

From what I've gathered looking around the various interfaces it seems this game is going to rely HEAVILY on microtransactions. It seems there's one in just about (if not all) menu(s).

It will, but microtransactions aren't what will make you win, according to this

https://secure.transformersuniverse.com/m=forum_tu/l=0/[Please Use QuickFind Code]?2,3,757,7317

This game is completely free to play. You don't have to pay anything to access it, nor are you forced to pay in order to compete. You earn the currency to unlock new content through gameplay so if you put in the time and effort you can play the game completely for free.

This is not a pay to win game. Whilst payment will allow you to gain stuff like warriors and resprays faster it does not guarantee success. Using skills, tactics and teamwork will always give you an edge. Case in point, I regularly play with non-starter warriors like Flatline and still have my exhaust handed to me constantly by players effectively using the starter warriors like Monsoon and Overclock.

I wouldn't call it misleading, they said it wont be a RPG like Runescape a loooooong time ago.

I'm stuck in the Hangar... can't deploy or recruit any more autobots, even though it's telling me to do it. Can't do anything till I get past that.

Massive difference between MMORPG and MMO(G), TU is definitely an MMO(G).

Just a guess but some people in this thread would write RIP in peace?
If you are going to use abbreviations you need to know what they stand for.
MMO = Massive Multiplayer Online
MMORPG = Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game

I'm not a huge transformers fan so i doubt i'll be trying this out any time soon... unless there's a transformer made out of corn.

I think the flak they are getting for the $450.00 Founders Package, from a Forbes Article is a bit deserved. The author of the article is right, too:

 Any company could try and make more money by selling exclusive content and “honors” at absurdly high prices, but most don’t. Video games are unique because superluxury items have little to no physical cost attached to them. The work and materials that go into making a Bugatti Veyron a million dollar car may very well be worth that price tag, but the same can’t be said for a $500 gold plated virtual robot, which requires developers to do little more than changing a six digit color code. At that point, you’re selling air, and your players will resent you for the attempt. This seems to be mostly an MMO issue, and one that only serves to contribute to the decline of the genre.

I understand things like the tiers of annual subscription packages, which we could drop $99.99 for on RuneScape, but I hope we don't see anything like the Cybernite packages elsewhere anytime soon. Because, knowing how much some of my friends and clanmates love this game, they might pay for it. But I don't think most gamers can afford that, and those who can are either rich or not able to sustain that sort of purchase for long. It drains goodwill.

Edit: I just want to add that I'm looking at Transformers Universe for precedents it might set for other games Jagex is working on, mainly RuneScape, really
