Stigma with Sexual Orientations and Identities

i also feel a gay pride style of event could be good in rs and the wearing of the robes would just be good, like a gathering for people and making a fun event.

i am here to bring a little bit of fun and get people who are gay to come together for a brilliant people event outside of jagex

I suggest you visit these subforums on the RSOF and organize the events:

Events - "One off" - http://[Use Quick Find Code]/[Please Use QuickFind Code]?199,200

Events - Regular and Ongoing - http://[Use Quick Find Code]/sl=0/[Please Use QuickFind Code]?42,43

Or if you're interested in creating an event for Tipiters, try this subforum:

this is what i like, i was not told about this, i will go have a look now and may open an event up, as someone said its a stereotype of wearing the pink robes and blue robes does anyone have any ideas of what style of robes that are cheap for people to wear to an event like this?

well i have decided to join that are accepting to the gay community and the leader is brilliant i am glad that someone pm'd me on here telling me about the clan, i wont say who they are through fear of them being shunned or rejected like i seem to have been by the community on here, luckily one person managed to speak up but had to hide in pm to avoid being ridiculed by the people on here, sadly i dont think people are ready for us gays yet in rs but luckily this clan is highly accepting, i just hope that one day the people here can finally accept this is life and not have to be against who we are :(

I must say I don't like what you are implying at all. The community on this forum is quite mature and friendly, and has been as long as I have been a member here. The moderators are also doing an excellent job monitoring the threads and don't like it at all if someone doesn't behave according to the rules. If there isn't a moderator around, you can bet the rest of the regular members keep a keen eye on things, because they do not want their precious community to go bad. On this thread I have yet to see anyone ridicule you, shun anyone saying they are gay or mock anyones lifestyle. For some reason, your strange reactons on this thread reminds  me of Matt Lucas' scetch in the comedy show 'Litle Brittain'. Seen it? You know, where he plays Daffyd Thomas, who lives in a small village, refusing to realise that noone has any problems with him being gay, and where he thinks he is the only one living there that is gay. He gets quite frustrated when noone gets shocked or appalled by his way of dressing or his lifestyle. This is very much how you behave right now. You are putting words and thoughts in peoples head that have never been spoken. Thats not fair, is it?

If you feel so strongly about this, why not go on Jagex' roleplaying world and do all the things you mentioned? :)

why would i troll about something i believe in? something i wanted and thought other people wanted, if you believe i am not genuine and use a charecter from a tv show which really is just an abuse on gay people, daffyd was just a sterotype of what people find gays to be, making them into a mockery, the fact you have even used that as an example looks to me as though you have no respect for the gay community.

So you can better understand Daffyd's character:

i find it highly offencive that you ridicule me and put me in the same light as a tv charecter that is just mocking gays, this is where i feel shunned and quite frankly dissapointed in this forum, am i putting up youtube clips of a mock of hetrosexuality? am i saying things against hetrosexuality? no i am not but i get people classing me as some non existant person who is mocking the gay community for cheap laughs which is highly offencive to me and probably a lot of people.

ok maybe it might not work with him in a way, i dunno there must be some sort of way they can put it into the game, maybe by selecting the right drop down boxes or something i mean it works in skyrim if you wear the necklace maybe it casts a spell over them or something to be attracted to the famous adventurer

Which is exactly why the LGBT part of the community is doing it. :-D

I think the whole point just flew over your head. Firstly; Matt Lucas who plays that role is gay him self in real life, and secondly, the scetch is not about mocking gays, it is more about having fun with the guy who is really heterosexual (the character is) and desperately wants to shoch and appall people with him being gay (which he is not) but which he is not successfull in. Have you even seen those shows?

... no one has said anything offensive or untoward against homosexuals or homosexuality in this thread. If you are interpreting those posts as personal attacks and choosing to respond in the matter you're using, I think there's nothing more that can be said on this thread.

Maybe you just should take a breather, brew some coffee or tea, and then come back to the thread and read it again - without being prejudiced =)

i have seen a couple i just never liked his approach to be honest it seems a bit, mocking to me about gays like whenever ive seen people watch it they are like oh what a [bleep] and stuff and that type of talk is just upsetting to me, my ex boyfriend wouldnt watch it because it came across to him like it as well, i understand where you are coming from by what you have said though.

im not trying to shock or apall anyone though i just threw out an idea and was hoping that peole would get where i was coming from something that never really gets mentioned in game or on forums much about rs just wanted to find a way of making it real, guess its just a dream really.

Speaking as a gay man myself:

Runescape is fine the way it is, we do not need to wedge some pro gay agenda in there for the sake of equality.

The ONLY thing in the entire game that remotely enforces a sexuality is those 2 quests and in that instance I couldn't care less - it is a sham marriage to meet other goals to a heterosexual prince or princess, it doesn't matter what clump of pixels you "fancy" or even what sexuality you suppose your character to have.

Also I do not think runescape is the right place for a pride parade - it's too easy for trolls to come out and ruin something like that in an online format and gaming isn't exactly a frontier where we need to fight for equality, where as real life is.

The obsession with some of wedging gay into everything in the name of equality is quite frankly boring and stupid in my opinion. Equality is being treated the SAME as everyone else, not having special treatment and unique things added in to everything.

In the grand scheme of things you just can't ask the question of sexuality in a game which is played by children amongst others. In fact, sexuality doesn't come into it at all, it's a medieval roleplaying game where you kill dragons for loot.

I'm also gay and that has never factored into the way I play, or my view on the game. Yes, my character married the Princess in that quest, but my character has also murdered and pillaged, which is not a reflection on myself. I don't support the idea that the community is homophobic in any way, I've never had an adverse situation when playing or browsing these forums.

It just isn't the place to promote any awareness. Only if it became an issue would it then be relevant, but since it isn't, the game isn't the place to be doing it really.

I can't speak for the rest of the TIF community but I have nothing against you as a person, but rather with your idea that anyone who doesn't include homosexual themes is instantly anti-gay. Jagex hasn't included Canada day into the game, does that make them anti-Canadian? No. It just means that Canadians are too small a minority to pander to our every request. You just have to accept that the makers of this game can't include every group in every way.

Exactly my thoughts after reading through the replies. I'm not entirely convinced you are not trolling after ignoring the posts that defend your stance, but ignore the overall advice they give.

If you are genuinely not a troll and feel this strongly about this, then my advice is to not be so defensive. Organize your event with actual pride. Have fun, and step back and moment and see here on tip.it that nearly every post has some encouragement.

I think the point of the discussion going on here is that people should pick where and how they choose to fight their battles.

If jagex were discriminationg against the LGBT community that would be an appropriate time to act.

Just some good to know information about the author of this thread, and since this whole troll discussion is blossoming within this thread anyway:

I am not anti-gay by the way, just putting that in. You to me just became a whole lot less trustworthy though. If you really are interested in making RS better for gay people I don't think you would lie about who you are in game.
