[DISCUSSION] Ironman mode

Since money isn't an issue, probably whatever ends up being the most tedious thing you need to collect for xp.  Maybe stock herbs if possible?  Summoning could be a good fallback since whether ironman or not, you need to gather your own and methods for doing so are well documented :P.

Im not sure if it's reasonable to get materials in that time frame unless you play tons prior. I'm considering construction to save time from woodcutting and converting to planks

Is Ironman going to block sharing portables?  If not there is a possibility of obtaining protean planks from that, useful if you're going to do Construction...

I still think summoning is the most tedious thing to collect. Perhaps not at 96+ due to the easyness of yakhide (shop), but most other seconds are quite tedious to get. Then you still need to process these resources, which is rather fast so it would save more and would be finished quickly, so you could also do other things as well.

Herbs are quite easy to get once you get the seeds, the lower half of the seeds are quite common @ MTK. Next to that a plethora of monsters drop the top half of the herb seeds quite frequently, and can easily be solo'd at that point.

As someone said earlier in this thread, planks don't need to be a problem if you keep your house @ Taverly, you would still need to run more and it will be slower. However, it will be a fast way to plank (other than make plank) after which you can easily do a fast method. The logs can be gained from Ape Atoll as there is a depo box nearby.

Other skills I can think of that are good to do on a BXP as a DiY is Farming as most exp comes from trees and is just like doing 2 runs at once. I am more concerned around a skill like Crafting or Smithing where resource xp > process xp.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be?~ Marianne Williamson

This was mentioned in the dxpw thread... but what do you think would be the best use of dxpw for ironman with only a month to prepare?

I'd set up MTK asap and have it on 10 coal / 5 herbs or 10 herbs / 5 coal until dxp. I'd lean towards coal though, as you can transmute 3 coal into 1 mith. Then I'd use all mith/coal doing mithril swords at artisans. This uses up hardly any preparation time, and doing ceremonial swords is rather fast smithing xp. Herbs aren't that good from MTK though when you get bit higher herblore. Theyre mostly just low level herbs.

Other good way to prepare would be getting silver bars from trekking. During double xp they should be around 160k crafting xp per hour.

With summoning you can't really go wrong either. Also it cuts down shard cost in half which is really helpful especially when starting out. As for what familiars to make, after looking at wikia I came to these conclusions

Gold:

- Granite Crab (level 16, iron ore)

- Spirit Terrordbird (level 52, raw bird meat (can buy 300 a day from ooglog))

- Barker Toad (level 66, swamp toad) <-- Wouldn't do this myself but if people want swamp toads I think big chinchompa is pretty good for them

Green:

- Beaver (level 33, willow logs)

- Ibis (level 56, harpoon)

- Bunyip (level 68, raw shark (from temple trekking))

- Unicorn stallion (level 88, unicorn horn (tower of life)) <-- Not really optimal for training (shouldn't even be using greens at this point)

Crimson:

- Pyrelord (level 46, tinderbox)

- Granite lobster (level 75, granite) <- possibly one of the easiest tertiarys to get hold of

- Talon beast (level 77, talon beast charm) <- I suggest banking all talon beast charms while you're trekking for other rewards. After all, it takes like 250k silver bars for 99 craft

- Pack yak (level 96, yak-hide)

Blue:

- Spirit Kyatt (level 57, kyatt fur) <- Might as well make some of these, unless you're planning on using taverley shop method

- Mithril Minotaur (level 66, mithril bar) <- Mithril bars arent worth using for smithing as artisan/superheating gold is much better.

- Adamant Minotaur (level 76, adamant bar) <- same point as above

- Fire/Moss Titan (level 79, fire/earth talisman) <- You most likely wont have many talismans unless you have done dag tasks at dks.

- Lava titan (level 83, obsidian charms) <- Bank all obsidian charms from tzhaar tasks and only kill the ones that drop 2 at once.

- Geyser Titan (level 89, water talisman) <- Eh you probably won't have many water talismans either.

Out of all the charms blue charms are the trickiest to use. I always just end up using whatever bars/talismans I have and end up with leftover blue charms

Actually happy about that and it makes sense for them. Ironman was made popular largely on twitch with 07scape (and had the stupid name coined to it, I much prefer DIY mode, ironman mode makes me think level 10 def pure o.O). So having people stream their beta testing of it will likely be pretty popular. Not to mention I think people would do it anyway, and just hide the account they are doing it on. Jagex could find out, but just more hassle then it is worth.

Think they tried a NDA on legacy beta at first, but quickly backpedaled

No NDA? That's unusual for Jagex

Didn't they only try (and redact) that stunt once?  Unless there's a lot of secret stuff going on that never even makes the frontpage.

New Ironman mode information:

dbffb46725.png

or Test Summary:

Hi everyone,

Following this week's Behind the Scenes video about Ironman Mode, we thought it'd be good to provide a summary of information for players looking for more details.

Ironman Mode in inspired by the community created Ironman Challenge, which tasks players with creating a new character and playing entirely self sufficiently - with no help from other players. By creating an official mode we're able to provide proper in-game features, hiscores and a common ruleset for all participants.

Mod Ryan has put together this outline for Ironman Mode in RuneScape:

- Self sufficient gameplay with minimal interaction with other players
- Available to both F2P and P2P players
- Ironman is activated upon account creation; existing accounts can't be converted
- Unique chat badges, one for Ironman and one for Hardcore Ironman
- Unique titles relating to the mode you’re playing in
- You cannot trade with other players
- You cannot gain assistance from other players
- You cannot use the GE to buy any items except bonds
- A large amount of minigames that involve player interaction have been disabled
- Sinkholes and Warbands D&Ds are disabled
- Dungeoneering can only be soloed
- PvP XP is disabled
- Lootshare is disabled
- You cannot pick up items that other players have dropped or earned
- You only receive monster drops if you've done over 50% of the damage
- XP from monsters is awarded proportionally to your damage contribution
- Recruit a friend XP bonus will not work on an Ironman account
- Treasure Hunter is disabled
- Solomons store is still available
- Each mode has their own unique hiscores
- Ability to purchase disabler items at a cost that allows you to downgrade should you ever wish to (Hardcore Ironman > Ironman > Current gameplay)
- Bonds can be traded IN only, so earn membership from your main account
- Bonds can be purchased and redeemed for membership and runecoins but not Treasure Hunter keys
- Bonds cannot be sold but an Ironman can receive a bond from another player
- Secret button combination required on account creation to unlock the option to enable Ironman mode

Hardcore Ironman specific:
- Death is permanent, if you die you will no longer be able to log into game worlds (you can still talk in the lobby)
- Death in a ‘safe area’ where you would normally respawn without losing any items or having a gravestone will not count as a real death in Hardcore ironman mode meaning you will respawn
- Ability to purchase extra lives at a cost: 1st purchase – 1000 level total and 100,000gp, 2nd purchase – 1600 level total and 10,000,000gp.
- You will not get a gravestone on death if you die and still have lives remaining

…and that about sums it up! There's a bit more detail in our previous Ironman update thread if you've still got questions.

The details for Ironman Mode in Old School RuneScape can be found in their recent devblog.

Ironman Mode is entering closed beta testing next week, and you can get a preview by watching livestreams of our closed beta on the RuneScape twitch.tv channel on Monday. Beyond that, we are aiming for a launch some time in October - we hope you’re as excited as we are!

Thanks,
Mods Ryan, Pips, Easty, Drew, Philip, Kelpie.

Probably so some kid who is completely new to RS doesn't accidently start an ironman acc.

I feel like having a button and an description what it is would be obvious enough
