ITT:(In This Thread) Casual gamers [bleep]ing about endgame content.

I think it would be more constructive to provide comments and talk about the topic instead of patronizing name calling ("casual" obviously is not normally patronizing but it is in this context).

In addition, I think I disagree fundamentally with you on the definition of a casual game. According to you, maxed players can still be casual, whereas I think anyone who has gotten 99 in all skills is not, by any stretch of the word, "casual." I'd be interested to see what I and other even lower levels are in your eyes. But as long as we have this disagreement, we won't be able to come to an agreement so...oh well.

Also, you made a comment about "who can't kill gwd/mole" or something to that extent. While it may be difficult as a maxed/comp player (correct me if I'm wrong, but I just got this vibe that you're maxed) to see god wars dungeon or mole or kbd as a formidable foe, I think it is necessary to remember the combat 3-70 or even 80 players, the future of runescape, and how they see these bosses. I get that in the spur of the moment, that might have flown out, but it's still important to keep low levels in mind.

Finally, I can attest to not being able to do Death's challenges very well. I kept getting Jad, Zamorak gwd, and other high level bosses that I can't remember because I know I can't do them (believe it or not). The only bosses I can kill are barrows, kbd, mole, and chaos elemental (and one kill a run at qbd so that's not worth it). Being combat 121 (prayer and summoning contributed quite a few levels), I kept getting what I consider high level bosses, so I gave up on Death's tasks.

My advice is join to an Tip.It FC (FSC, HYT) and ask if anyone wants to go GWD with you. (Not that you asked for advice, but...)

I don't like the idea of guaranteed drops, simply because I've been one of those people who has gotten something extremely rare early on. (Triple barrows drop back in 05/06 after like a hundred runs.)

I do however, support the idea that those who invest time into something should be rewarded. For example, progressively better (even if slightly) rewards at Araxxi based upon enraged levels. Not enough to crash a market, but enough for Jagex to say "yeah, that fight was hard. Here's 175 onyx bolts." Currently: "yeah, that fight was hard. Here's 600 yews and 5 rocktails."

I speak to the same about pets. I don't like the idea of guaranteed (unless they could be purchased, etc.)  - but I do like the idea of a near guaranteed threshold system. You kill 1k QBD or whatever, and you'll get the pet by kill 1020, or maybe 1100 at the most. Sure, that still leaves a window open to never get the pet. But chance inspires opportunity, which inspires adventure. If everything is nailed into place, you'll find its hard to breathe, as the coffin is slowly lowered into the ground, gameplay wise.

I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Comped 4/30/15

The problem with no guarantee is that statistically if a large amount of people try to get such rare drop, there is a high chance that a few persons will never get it, theoretically you could spend for ever without getting it. An easy fix is to make it a fixed number which should be quite high. So that you can be sure to get one eventually even if you are extremely unlucky.

I don't like idea of each pet being obtained at a certain number of kills, because there's no variability which is boring. I do agree there shouldn't be a lot of people getting drops in the first hundred kills while others have to do tens of thousands of kills. I'd like to see a threshold where the drop rate increases to be close to 100%. Maybe something like:

P = (20+x)/(2000+x)

where x is the number of kills and P is the probability of getting a drop. With this system, the drop rate would initially be 1/1000, but would slowly increase every kill. After 2000 kills the drop rate would be pretty much 50%. As the number of kills goes to infinity, the probability would asymptotically approach 100%. Of course there would still be some tiny chance of never getting the pet, but it would be way more rare than it is right now.

considering that each player only experiences the drop once (well, per account), i'm not really sure if it's actually boring, or just theoretically boring on the part of people who get mad at things that aren't directly affecting them

rip

It's still boring - with RNG, you don't know when you'll get it. Every drop could be good. If you know that you'll get it at 5k kills - then those 5k kills are suddenly a slog. An "ffs 3.8k more kills" to go moment for each kill. As obnoxious as RNG is that mystery remains, and sure, while there's a chance of players falling through the cracks - that's life.

This really boils down to two different perspectives on life in general. Those who value security over liberty, and those who value liberty over security. Perhaps not the in the most direct sense in this context, but the overarching way of thinking is what I'm referring to.

Imo RNG isn't prestigious, just as grinding the same thing over and over again isn't :P

Much as I hate how comkcally grindy the game is, at least that gave you some control over whether or not you achieved something. Because...well, is it still an achievement if you have no control over whether or not you've achieved it? Genuinely curious about what you guys think there.

Why not have a balance of stuff that can be grinded and stuff that can not? There's plenty of the first one.

There's also a lot of the second, even outside of the drop system. I just don't see why getting every lucky drop should make you more deserving of prestige than someone who put in the same amount of work, if not more, and just didn't get the drops.

Kind of like the raffle a few months back, which Yomi also complained about because he came out empty handed while the rest of us took home multiple Warpriest and silverhawk sets, while I never won a skilling item even when there were less than 50k entries. Everyone put in the same effort, some people were rewarded for it. That's fine for a personal goal, but the drops should really be their own reward, as they are elsewhere in the drop system.

The proposed boss pet system would have been perfect for this, really. Get lucky, or grind and spend a ton of soul reaper points for a random pet you have access to. The same thing, less chance of RNG [rooster].

I have always supported a minimum threshold. Sorry, but if you're some scrub who has 1 Araxxor kill, then you don't deserve the pet. It should be reserved for skilled and consistent hunters, not lucky scrubs.

It's not anyones "fault" to get lucky and receive a pet drop after one kill - why do you have to call them scrubs?

I don't really care much for gwd, and also, I've been told to get death's challenges as solo activities, and so I can't do gwd as a team (not that I would ever want to :P). I'm not bitter about not being able to do most bosses, because I don't really care, but I speak because I know other people who would love to do Death's challenges but can't really.

I don't like pets because they allow you to complete content.  Am I going to want to go back to Araxxor after I unlock Mallory?  Probably not.  At least since I'll never get a Vitalis I can keep doing Vorago.

best drops (reasonably accurate/up to date): 1x Elysian Sigil (LS), 1x Arcane Sigil (cs), 4x Armadyl Hilt (solo at 100m, 100m, 50m, and 5m), 2x Saradomin Hilt (solo at 25m), 5x Draconic Visage (34m,1.2m,1.2m) and various cs/ls/ffa Nex splits.
Drygore Drops: 7 Longswords, 3 Maces, 3 Rapiers, 3 Off-hand Rapiers,  5 Off-hand Maces, 3 Off-hand Longswords

ROTS Shields: 12  Seismics: 16

Ascension Crossbows: 6  Spider Legs: 10

Countless Armadyl armour pieces, Saradomin amulets, Dragon Hatchets, and Fremenik Rings.

because obv if you've done less kills than they have you don't deserve such a drop . . . standard elitist babble

You know what would be great fun? A prestige system for boss pets. Sacrifice pet, hunt it down again, then have the same pet with a "2" somewhere in it. Then a 3, 4, etc. Everyone can be happy! You can advertise either your PvM prowess or the RNG gods smiling on you at will...

"Fight for what you believe in, and believe in what you're fighting for." Can games be art?

Yup, it's elitism and it's good. It's no different than if skill capes were a random item you could receive while performing any skilling action, instead of an item to be received after a certain standard. Would skillers be happy then? I doubt it. Boss pets are elite content, so they should have an elite standard. Also, I don't blame lucky people for being lucky, I blame Jagex for creating and enforcing a system where lucky people instead of dedicated people are rewarded.

they arent elite items though are they, theyre a drop . . . with odds . . . a cape is for reaching an amount of xp. "i don't blame lucky people . . . " then go on to call them scrubs at every available moment. I prefer lucky people getting rewarded though both would be better, the feeling of getting that lucky drop is great, whether there should be a top threshold where you just get it is another matter, personally i wouldnt want that to happen to me as it would take all the enjoyment out of it, knowing i was going to just get it then.

There's a fair bit of mixed messages behind the things, really. Jagex jumped through hoops to sell them as an elite status item, and then made them the sole focus of an elite status title. Would be better if they were just pets. :v

I like them being just pets, though I  doget if there's a title involved then maybe there should be an upper limit to this. Equally, something that could take 20-30 minutes shouldn't be as rare as 1/5k when required for trimming a title, just ends up with even more unhealthy play.
