So why does he care? It is not like top secret stuff is being discussed there. I thought those forums were just so they could have discussions with high leveled players without lower leveled players interfering...

The thread from it has now been hidden. I don't know if he hid it, he's been overridden on it by another J Mod, or they're planning to change the rules more officially. Waiting to see if anything is mentioned about it.

There are already multiple people been revoked from the HLF for posting content from the HLF outside. I know 2 cases so far, and that is the reason the rule stays till there is actually a black on white clarification whether the rule remains or can be removed.

You can still refer to the content of HLF posts, you simply can't screenie them or reproduce them in their entirety.

 

And indeed it does seem like a hissy fit on Lee's part. His entire justification for it was that he wanted the HLF to be a special achievement that you earned, something really extraordinary. A pretty amusing thing to say in 2015, since they have definitely watered down Maxing as an achievement, with their thousands of Bonus events, SOF, OP training methods (Warbands), and so on.

Reading the reddit thread, he's basically butthurt that some guy created a facebook page and posted a bunch of HLF stuff on there. That's literally all there is to it. But the thread has been hidden, so hopefully someone overruled him.

My understanding is the actual issue at play is to do with player privacy on the HLF.  This is because of the IRL pictures thread as well as other threads about IRL information.  When other threads are being leaked I suppose jagex might be considered liable if IRL information about players were leaked.  I suspect Mod Lee didn't say as much because doing so would be a moral hazard (once players understood they weren't supposed to leak the IRL information, more might be inclined to)

The HLF is a private forum section that you unlock when you max your account, it isn't meant to be shared like that.

There really is no harm in sharing things, but the degree and to a lesser extent the manner the guy released it was probably not in the best interest of the community. I haven't personally seen what was released. Has he released to a more confined community like this one or another forum he could have been addressed. With that said I'm curious if Lee even addressed him before actually taking action.

That's what I originally thought too but it doesn't really make sense on closer scrutiny. Thousands of people have access to HLF, and in an age where you can take screenshots and upload them instantly with programs like Puush, anyone who is sharing sensitive or personal information that they don't want known to the gaming community at large in a 'private' forum is fooling themselves. No one should be sharing sensitive or embarrassing things on HLF when thousands of people can access it - I would never even conceive of doing something like that. Anyone who posts sensitive material there obviously doesn't care much for their privacy.

You post a picture of yourself on the internet? Privacy on the internet? Sorry but don't post pics on the internet that you don't like others to see, imo that is not why sharing these things should be not allowed.
