What's so great about old-school runescape?

I'm sorry, but I tried old school runescape, and all it did was remind of how thankful I am for the useful updates.

What is so great about old school RuneScape?

I am gonna go over things I don't like.

The map is on a separate page instead of in the game itself, at the top of that you have to manually scan your eyeballs to find something instead of typing the name of what you're looking for.

When you go to a bank it doesn't automatically heal you. I might not have minded having to steal from the bread stall in the past, but now I hate it as I have to fight these crappy guards.

And worst of all, no mithril dragons.

I honestly think that the people who say old RuneScape is better are just having nostalgia goggle glued on. I don't really see what's so great about the 2007 runescape.

EDIT: Somebody who replied explained to me what's so great about it. I still prefer the modern RS though.

This isn't really a matter we can give "help and advice" and seems more of an opinion on so I'm moving it to Rants.

To try to answer your point though, I guess people are looking for a nostalgic version of the game as Gains Goblin was saying. Or perhaps they really dislike EoC/Legacy that much.

As it is a version of the 2007 game, it is not going to have all the modern conveniences of RS3 just by definition. In fact, as it was first released the worst of these features were complained about almost instantly and remedied after they passed in poll votes.

One major thing it does have pulling for it as a larger clan warring base in the wilderness than RuneScape 3, but I'm not too much into all that.

That's how I see it. I'm sure other people may have different views.

"Fight for what you believe in, and believe in what you're fighting for." Can games be art?

OsBuddy.

Eating a shark will not make you poor and on the other hand will make fishers very happy!

Wrong.

Why do you have a problem with what other people like and play? If you think rs3 is better, you play rs3. If you think 07scape is better, you play that. No big deal.

Yeah, I do regret typing that paragraph.

I'm sorry if I was stating my opinion as a fact I hate when people do that.

But I wanna know the reasons from the people who like old school RuneScape why they do. But I really could have worded that last paragraph better.

1. Nostalgia.

2. Super simple combat system easy to understand.

3. Ain't nobody got time to learn new gameplay mechanics. Everything is the same from the first time you started playing.

4. PVP is alive.

5. No microtransactions.

6. No updates go in the game without approval from the community beforehand.

7. If the community demands for an update, it will happen.

8. Good press compared to rs3.

9. Majority of your old friends play oldschool.

10. People don't like drastic changes.

11. Don't fix what does not need fixing.

12. "If I want good graphics I might as well go play Crysis"

Need I go on?

And before you ask, I am rs3 player and rarely log in to 07.

Those are some good reasons indeed, thank you.

Because of this I'm gonna edit the first post and add something.

I regret making this thread. I easily could have asked this question in a much nicer and more civil way.

The last paragraph really made me look like a jerk.

And I also shouldn't have brought up my problems.

What I did is just as bad as when people say "How can anyone like this?" which is the worst thing elitists can say.

Don't be too hard on yourself :P. Though, the name of the user who liked that post makes for some interesting irony..

Full Loot PvP and actual PKing, Devs looking to expand PvP opportunities, Wilderness expansions, no ridiculous bugged Combat UI, hasn't been digested by Powercreep completely and most of all economy still has some value, death still has a meaning. You can build 100's of different accounts all with their own niche specialty or use due to the different combat formula and ofcourse NOSTALGIA.

Whilst your success is somewhat based on your gear it's not as ridiculous as wear seismics you win.

Want to go stake 100's of millions in EoC? Wouldn't even care.

This is a thread I really wish I never made.

It is by far my WORST rant.

With other rants I no longer have the same mindset on, it was at least somewhat excusable as there were things I didn't realize back when I made it.

But here, no excuse at all, I'm being such an elitist here since I tried asking people who like RS2 why they like it in such a elitist manner.

I would want this thread to be removed, but that's not gonna erase it from anybody's memory. That's what I really wanna do.

It's alright; it's certainly a valid question. The whole point of forums is to have a discussion anyway :P.

I have been playing RS since 2006 I have 2420 total with 331 qp (1 div and all 28 quests that were released since are obviously not completed) and I stopped playing in mid 2012, not because EOC, but rather because of the continuos problem: The game as whole is just boring. The game however greatly improved since 2006, simple tasks are way less annoying and pain in the ass and eyes.

1. only legit point

2. so you are basically saying you are so dumb you cannot learn new combat, which took me less than one hour to figure out and prefer over old no skill combat?

3. Same as above, new costumizable UI isn't hard to learn and makes the game way less annoying, I wish we had this before when I played. They added this just after I quited the game... it's was like an epic troll from jagex, but i didn't give in.

4. Yeah because the rest of the 2007 game is dull and boring... I have never really pked in rs.. I see rs as and advanture game, there is so much stuff to do, unless you are over 90 in ever skill like I was... if you want to pvp why you don't go play LoL? It's way better.

5. No microtransactions? What about old school bonds? Sure RS has transactions, but it's not like people didn't get unfair advantage with paying real money before, it was always an UNWANTED part of game, just called differently - rwt plus random chinese botters benefited from it instead jagex, that's why RS was littered with bots in 2006 and 2007.

6. Right because you don't get much updates, also I like rs3 updates.. only ones that I don't like is annoying 3x3 square emotes and stupid screen flickering teleport animations, but new quests, minigames, awesome content and so on, overweight small annoyances, like the stupid salomon store garbage.

7. Same with main game... whining babies who can't learn new tricks got legacy UI back and legacy combat, complete with legacy only servers

8. What press? None of jagex games get any press, they are too small and with only one game behind their belt, compared to other better way bigger game companies. XYZ news sites and RS fansites don't count.

9. No the only friend of all my friends wh played and who unwillingly introduced me to rs doesn't play RS anymore since forever. I would be a terrible friend if I recommended this game to anyone, new or old one.

10. This can be connected with other points you have already made, we get it you can't learn, enjoy playing in old inferior way.

11. RS can't be fixed.. it's just a terrible concept based around grinding and clicking in patterns, but at least they are trying.

12. What really sucked about old graphics was the small fixed screen... resizable screen was huge improvement (that wasn't the part of game in 2007 and earlier)... that's why old school rs has it... and if you are using it then that only proves that it was a good update and that new rs is better and you have nostalgia googles glued to your face.

RS only got better with years... just because you can't learn new awesome costumizable UI and combat doesn't mean it's bad and if you are willing to discard years of updates and content and all your progress (you have to start over) then be my guest.

I grew up with Runescape, Runescape made me who i am today (i was more influenced by the elder scrolls i think cause that game taught me how to steal stuff) soon after the trade cap was implemented I quit and went on with my life. The thing i loved most about it was the mercantile potential, the economy was solely in the hands of the player and that made it the greatest game ever i think. Now the only game I can think of that has this quality is Eve online, they do a very good job with managing the economy while keeping it in the players control. When Jagex put a trade cap on the game they lost a tremendous amount of people, they are now making up for it by developing OSRS. THIS IS THE GREATEST DECISION THAT JAGEX HAS EVER MADE because the people that made this game what it is today, the countless members that were betrayed when Jagex took the best quality's of a game that these people have subscribed to for five plus years, they finally get their game back. Honestly I was very mad at Jagex and I had genuine hatred towards the company for doing this to the game. As soon as i heard about OSRS I came rushing back I was astounded and it restored ALL my faith in Jagex and I believe that they will be very successful in the days to come because they now know how important it is to give the players what they want. Naturally there will be a lot of controversy over which game is a better use of your time but you are able to choose because Jagex made the choice available. Now I have the best game ever made back and they continue to develop it in a way that appeals to the veteran Runescape player that doesn't quite click with the major differences of RuneScape3.

Honestly I like both. On my first account I played back in '05 and '06, I really enjoyed the game, but never got too far into questing, the story, ect. All I really played Runescape for was to be able to talk with my friends on the phone and play with them. That is it.
My account I use now I joined in September of 2015. I thought I wouldn't like RS3, but what do you know, I ended up loving it. It's where almost all of my hours playing are spent. It was a bumpy start with the new tutorial though, I didn't like starting in Ashdale and doing a quest vs. tutorial island.
I didn't start playing OSRS until probably March of this year. While I love that they brought back the RS I (kinda) knew as a kid, I just don't like the people in the community that are CONSTANTLY bashing RS3. I NEVER see anyone in RS3 bashing OSRS. It makes OSRS's community seem kinda...hostile to me. It really drives me away from OSRS and sometimes I just don't want to get on because "If you like RS3, you're an idiot" (I've heard worse insults too, just didn't want to put them here.
But I do really enjoy playing OSRS. I find it fun, and I love that even though it is an older version of RS, they still update it.
Though I want to say one thing. "RS3 isn't the original RS." Where is your old account located? That is what I thought.

Skedra I haven't been playing since 2012 when I quited because rs was boring, returned in 2016 and got used to rs3 in like 15 minutes and i prefer costumizable gui and EOC because I don't have autism. Btw I'm still waiting for any osrs spastic kids to respond to my over 2 year old post on first page, probably won't happen since I have completely rekt OSRS a.k.a AutismScape.

Btw I logged to OSRS only to find out it's full of [bleep]ing bots everywhere it's probably like half if not more of playerbase, while in rs3 bots make maybe like 1% of playerbase as we have botwatch.

Btw whats with shift to drop? LMAO you guys know old rs sucked that's why you slowly keep asking for rs3 features
