What's changed in ~3 years?

Thief109

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm just returning to this game after a really long hiatus of 2-3 years. For a frame of reference, I quit just before Divination came out and the most recent quest was the one where Guthix died (sorry I do not remember the name).

What have been the most major changes?

What are the new quests (I had a QPC before I quit, I really like those)?

New bosses and skills?

I'm really out of the loop. Hoping some of you can help catch me up to modern time. Thanks!

Welcome back to RS!

I think the quest you are referring to is The World Wakes. Subsequent to that there haven't been a whole lot really, only eleven (see here for links). The Grandmaster quests are the most involved/interesting ones, but I'm sure you'll find the others interesting too if you like questing. Specifically, Birthright of the Dwarves, Fate of the Gods, The Mighty Fall, and Plague's End have been the major ones.

Jagex has made a few more changes  to Evolution of Combat. There is a new intermediate mode called Revolution which will auto-fire off abilities for you, and Legacy mode if you want to experience the old combat.

There are no new skills as of yet, but there have been updates to some of them and new minigames. For example there are Guthixian Caches to help earn you some Divination experience and short-term buffs to Divination training.

In terms of bosses, the newest are Vorago and the solo/duo spider boss Araxxor released last year. Of course I don't do a whole lot of PvM, but there should be plenty of information readily available if you want to learn more about them. Again Araxxor can be done solo but you'll need very top tier equipment and probably die a few times learning it.

Hopefully all that was somewhat helpful! And let me know if there's anything else more I can help with/provide more info on :).

Thanks you very much Arceus, that was helpful.

Now I have a little problem, which is apparently during my break between 2013-2015 somehow someone gained access to my account and got it banned for Macroing (Major). I have already submitted a (I believe decent) appeal, but was wondering if there is any other way to expedite the process or contact Jagex in another way. And if anyone has any experience with recovering an account that would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance, tip.it members.

I am very sorry to hear that :(. Unfortunately, Jagex never reads those appeals, so you'll have to try your luck with other avenues.

You can contact them via submitting a ticket (write in everything you had in the appeal more or less) or by trying to get the attention of @JagexSupport or a sympathetic JMod on Twitter. They may be more receptive if you emphasize that your account was hacked rather banned, because they appear to have this immovable stance on perm bans. If they check into IP's and see that it wasn't you, you should have a good chance of getting it back though. Including details such as where you lived/times you moved may be helpful as well when contacting them. I wish you all the best.

Thank you, I will submit a ticket with my appeal and the IP information. Thankfully I have never moved and since I've accessed this account from the same location for essentially 6 years before it was hacked, it should be pretty convincing.

Until then I will start a new F2P account for awhile.

Well that's  no good, hope you get your account back. In the meantime if you have any questions, feel free to add me and I'll assist you as best as I can.

I'm feeling hopeful about this whole situation. Even if the ticket fails I will still try to contact them via twitter, I have high hopes that with some persistence I will be able to recover my old account.

But in the meantime, I have a few more questions:

What are the main "best" weapons and armor now? I heard about Drygores about a month after I quit, for a frame of reference.

The big elf city is accessible now? What can you do there besides steal from elves and farm moss? And what does the moss do (I heard something about new potions, not sure).

I remember logging in once and there being some big god battlefield event thing. What was that and what was it about?

I appreciate all the help you guys have given me so far. Thanks.

The best weapons and armor are tier 90 weaponry. There are dual wield versions (drygores, ascension crossbows, and seismic wand/singularity) as well as two-handed noxious weapons, which are made through combining drops from the spider boss Araxxor I mentioned before. Drygores are most popular because they are (relatively) cheapest, about 50M for a set. In comparison a Seismic wand is 600M. A set of drygores will destroy most things though, and supplemented with a chaotic crossbow or what have you, you should be fine. There are new tradeable weapons released with Player-owned Ports (see next paragraph) which are level 85, but the prices for those are, shall we say, in a state of flux since they are so new.

In terms of armor, for general purpose Slayer/training and whatnot, if you have a set of Bandos, Armadyl, and Subjugation, it should be suitable for most purposes. For higher level bossing, you may need higher level armor. I think I forgot to mention it before, but we have a whole new type of content called Player-owned Ports, whereby you can manage and track voyages, and one of the endgame rewards from it is the ability to make high level armor. This is high level, members content which requires level 90 in various skills to access different parts. Or you just buy a slightly weaker version off the G.E. - note that it will degrade to dust though, so you want to make sure you're getting your money's worth!

The Elf City (Prifddinas) was indeed released the latter part of last year and there is lots to do there, from great Thieving xp rates to a new Slayer master to afk high-level mining (known as Seren Stones), Max Guild with toggleable portals to different places, its own Grand Exchange access, and much more. There are at least a dozen skills you can train there effectively.

The god battlefield you remember was likely one of the first couple world events we have had thus far. In World Event 1, the Battle of Lumbridge, Zamorak took on Saradomin. Players were able to take sides in gathering tears for the gods, and the results of their contributions led to Saradomin winning and Zamorak not dead but disappearing. There was a second world event, the Bird and the Beast which pitted Armadyl against Bandos and enabled overworld, safe PvP in certain zones, which could be toggled on or off for individual players. You could also build towers and "take over" stations for one god or the other on each world. In my personal opinion this was a little more exciting and fun, though I guess players who really hate PvP would have a different opinion. As a result of this, we have a huge crater near Lumrbidge which you will no doubt notice if you spend some time exploring. It even got filled with snow for sledding and a huge ramp to do tricks on this past Christmas!

Finally, there was a third, more lighthearted event for Easter last year called Cabbage Facepunch Bonanza. It entailed pitting the monkey god Marimbo against the god of cabbages, the infamous Brassica Prime. The minigame still exists just north of Lumbridge if you want to check it out (use a popular world), but some of the original holiday rewards are no longer there. It does have some useful rewards, perhaps most notably Seedicide to harvest seeds directly into Farming xp.

Unfortunately the other world events have ended so other than look up lore there isn't too much to experience, but there is a third one planned for summer I believe, so that's definitely worth sticking around for!

The first ticket was successful. Thank you Arceus for the suggestion and IP information. I am very grateful.

Now I have to submit a password reset request, I was not totally sure about all of my answers but I think I got enough stuff right it should work out. Wish me luck on that one. ^.^

Thanks for the explanation on weapons/armor and the world events.

EDIT: Password reset was successful. Have manged to log on again with my old account. Very happy right now. :D

Apparently the hacker was using it to farm blue dragons.

For F2P (assuming you clear level requirements) rune gauntlets, blue d'hide vambraces, and batwing gloves are the best for Melee, Ranged, and Magic, respectively. I should warn you that only the "worn-out" version of the rune gauntlets is tradeable and still very expensive. It must be recharged, or alternatively a fresh pair bought, from a minigame called Fist of Guthix, which isn't played so often anymore. You would have to look around a bit at certain times on certain worlds to find a group (sorry, I'm a bit out of that loop at the moment).

For boots, batwing boots are the best for magic. Ranged has only Carapace boots as far as I know (only level 30). I think the only option available for melee is the Fancy/Fighting boots from the Stronghold of Player Security under Barbarian Village. You may be able to get away with just substituting Batwing boots and gloves in any case though.

(Of course Warpriest from the world events is perhaps even better thanks to it being hybrid, but you cannot obtain this on F2P anymore. You kept it if you participated in the world events at the time and got a pair.)

F2P doesn't have too much in the way of good monsters for money, but ankous (which received a hefty bump to the general quality of their drop table last year) and cockroach soldiers are still the best. If you want to concentrate more on XP, lesser demons or deadly red spiders (they hit high so you need a good defense and food) would be good training monsters.

Thanks.

Don't worry, I have pretty high stats (70+ all except divination) and like 90+ all melees. I probably should have mentioned that somewhere.

I'll go check out ankous, they sound kinda fun for some reason. I remember doing slayer tasks on them before.
