Runescape Wine of Zamorak bots

Recommended Posts

Hello Tip.it forum!
I am fairly new to this forum but a Runescape veteran with 9 years of gameplay.
Everyone hates bots, can we agree on that?
Today I wanted to grab some wine of zamorak in the good old castle but I noticed one guy, all levels 1's except magic which was fairly high for him, 60 or 70. I thought: farewell, maybe he is just a pure or something and world hopped. Then, almost the same levels as the last guy there's this new guy with even higher magic level, but a similar name. I got it, they were bots.

And so I started scanning a few worlds and noticed more bots with a similar name. Under further inspecting they do the same movement which is the following:
1. They teleport to Taverley after their inventory is full.
2. When they run back they run past the Zamorak church and stay there for a while, then run towards the table.
3. After they are where they have to be, they log out and log back in.

I have noted down some usernames I am 100% sure they are bots. Their levels are 1's or very low and magic super high and their reflexes are very bot-like. Also, they all do the movement I explained above. Someone just has very many computers running with the same script.

Removed names - Steph

All those bots were in different worlds at the same time 10 minutes ago. See how the usernames have *number*word*number* in them?
Now I have reported all the bots before and I reported them now too, but I guess Jagex won't do anything about them because it's not the first time I see such script running.
My question to you guys is - can someone get contact with a Jagex employee? Or can someone show this thread to anyone who can do something about this?

Thank you!

Dan

Hello, and welcome to TIF!

You are indeed most likely correct that there are bots running Wine of Zamorak, and those names you listed may well be bots. The format of the names is in fact from the names Jagex suggests by default when you create an account. However, "naming and shaming" bots isn't going to do a terrible lot to help, unfortunately. Unless a slew of people came and reported them, it is unlikely that much action would be taken against they until Jagex found them or accumulated sufficient evidence. It is great that you took the initiative to hunt them down and report them, but that's really all you can do.

If you want to telegrab Wine of Zamoraks for yourself, there are a couple things you can try. If you cannot manage to beat the reflexes of the bots, you can go to a foreign world and see if there are fewer of them there. You can also wait until a system update and spend some time telegrabbing after that, as it usually takes a few hours for these unscrupulous people to get their bot scripts up and running again.

Thank you for your fast reply, Arceus!

It is true that I can't do anything about it, but if they all are using the same script, can't Jagex do something to find out what client or bot they are using and if someone uses that it's a permanent ban? I have heard that they already did this with a botting client named Powerbot, or was it RSbot?

About beating the bots - the system update idea is good, but beating bots is impossible. Only if someone had an autoclicker with 100 clicks a second, maybe.

Of course I, alone can't do anything about bots, but maybe a bunch of people could? Like go in the same worlds and report them or whatever?  |^_^|

I think Jagex takes more the approach to identify a bunch of them in that way, yes, and then ban a whole slew of them in one shot and code BotWatch to beat them on sight next time. There are always new scripts that these people are inventing though, so keep in mind that it can be difficult for Jagex to keep up. It's always an ongoing struggle.

There was an infamous case with a botting site by the name of RSBuddy, which entailed a legal suit which Jagex won in 2012 for an undisclosed amount of money, an agreement that the site would shut down all its scripts and such, and maybe some other things, I'm not sure.

I am sorry to hear that it is impossible to beat the bots. Have you tried a foreign server though? Otherwise I'm not sure what else to do. Of course, do not use an autoclicker - those are against the rules and will most likely get you banned.

Maybe a bunch of people would help more, but you might be better off asking your friends in-game to help with bot-busting. I know Jagex used to do such events on Old School but they were running into problems and falsely banning people in their enthusiasm. I don't think they did much in similar a vein on RS3.

Yep. Every world has at least one bot and sometimes one real user who is cussing at the bot.  :-D
Wine of Zamorak sure is a great way to make money since it is 4k each.
They are smart, though. Doing this and selling RS money for real money. Looks like it pays off the electricity bill they get.
I need to hit some Varrok guards to ease off my anger.

I notice bots all the time when killing monsters, they are everywhere and sadly there isn't much we can do about them.

I wouldn't mind if somebody cheated in a single player game. If they did that, they wouldn't be hurting anyone.

But using bots in a game where CLEARLY real people play it every day is unacceptable.

The bots I notice don't do me much harm, I usually just stay in one spot while fighting monsters, and fight it as soon as it respawns. That is the case when fighting red dragons.

But it seems you have a bigger issue. I'm so sorry they are annoying you.

But one thing I wanna know though. How does Jagex know the difference between a bot and a legitimate player?

I mean only having one skill higher than 1 doesn't automatically make someone a bot. In fact there are people who personally prefer only training one skill and don't care for the others.

It's the principle of a red flag. If they see someone with ALL skills at 1 except magic using magic to do an activity typically used for gold farming, they can concentrate their efforts there. Then they can check into that account more carefully, check IP addresses, and do whatever else they usually do to find out if it is a bot. To put that much effort into routinely checking every single account would be an impossible task.

Bots behave differently than humans, which triggers the botwatch of jagex. The better botwatch is, the more bots will be acting like humans. This means that either less bots get caught or more legit players get banned (or both), or that it takes more time to see if it is a bot or not (which will cost a lot more). There are a lot of different types of bots and some are easier to catch then others.

In the past when I did wine of zamorak, grabbing the wine by hand is faster than telegrabbing (I.e. will always beat telegrabbing). You could try bringing a restore potion (cheap) and killing all the monks then grabbing the wine. It will drain stats but you can drink the potion o restore it. This worked like 5 years ago but you could try it. I used it to beat autoclickers and annoy them x d.

Ha! Thanks for that link, Arceus, I enjoyed reading that, it was very amusing

no wonder there's so many people who just buy their way through skills, especially herblore .. they lost their bots

I remember that all of that tedious skilling, gathering, was what made this game addictive in the first place, it was charming

the thrill of taking the muddy key to the chest at the lava maze for some rubies and pineapple pizza, but who the H would do that now? Wilderness too overrun by botted up lazy vultures taking pleasure in ruining others' fun instead of having their own ..

Hey there, I removed the names that you listed since we don't allow naming and shaming.

I left the remainder of the post however since it has discussion value.

I don't get why wine of zamorak is worth more than sharks.

They shouldn't be worth that much. I mean it's easy to telegraph that wine since it spawns pretty quickly.

It's used to train a skill and make a secondary item. There is a demand for it and not many people besides bots and lower leveled/new players will gather them regularly.

I was once, long ago, when Rune armour was the bees knees, really annoyed with the masses of people especially in Varrock, yelling in colour Rune armour etc for sale, at very high prices. So I got thinking that one day I would reach mining and smithing level to make it myself and sell it dirt cheap to upset the market ..

You could do that with the Zamorak wine ..

then they wouldn't be bothered with it so much as it wouldn't make them so much money

mass produce it and sell it dirt cheap and ruin their market

I guess you could do that, but then if it was no longer a good moneymaking method, would you not have just put yourself out of business anyway? I looked up making it and it seems like getting the god grapes for it may take a while, and of course jugs may need to be bought off forum sellers if you want any decent quantity.

^ Also the quantities required to put them out of business is too much nowadays.

Hey, so.. I read this whole topic. And im sorry about those botters. Well, to be honest, bots are a pain in the *human body part*. They bug me everytime I try to collect Blue Dragon Scales or killing Blue Dragons. So I rage quit and went to Red Dragons. And there is more bots there. But I wouldn't dare to report them cuz I am afraid that I will be banned instead of the bot. Why am I afraid? Well here is some example.

- I am playing in a Minecraft server until a hacker is like slaughter 7 zombies at once. I reported him, he backfired and reported the admin. Result? Im the one banned.-

-Playing Counter Strike when someone is crouching at insane speed. Reported him and guess what? Both got banned.-

-This is byfar the worst. Im in Terraria making a house. When some random *human body part* came and friggin destroy stuff  at once! The server admin is there, and he blamed me. Result? BAN!-

Those reasons above are why I dont stand up against hackers and bots. It either backfires or ignored. by the way DriftC0re, if you want money, try woodcutting. They give you good non - combat money. Although if you want to train magic and gain money, go for Cockroach Soldiers. They drop Rune item rarely but the carapace and runes are worth it.

P.S. Nice cat you have there

P.P.S. What I said on the P.S. note doesnt make any sense to this topic

P.P.P.S. This is suppose to be funny :D

I don't think it works that way in RuneScape. Use your best judgement in reporting and it will help Jagex if only to identify where bots are and what to look into :). Just don't start reporting a bunch of people falsely - then Jagex will not be pleased and may take action against your account.

In Runescape you will only get banned if you are botting as well, as long as you are clean you can safely report people.

I've reported plenty of people in all my 15 years in Runescape and I've never been banned. EmeraldNaim perhaps you announced that you were reporting them, "I'm reporting you/I reported you!", in that case next time, just report and be on your merry way. They probably report you back after you say you're reporting them. I always keep to myself, people are often saying "I'm reporting you!" to me, because I don't chat, I'm not very social in the game. Even then I don't say anything, I just keep playing and doing what I'm doing. I figure Jagex probably look into it and see I haven't done anything wrong.
