If dragon shortsword was released, would anyone honestly care?

I did make a thread about dragon warhammer at one point, and most people said that they wouldn't care since dragon weapons have become irrelevant. Which even to this day I don't agree with.

When it comes to something like preference, there is no such thing as irrelevant.

Anyway, two years later, a dragon warhammer was finally released, which requires a quest which requires very high smithing level. Not a big deal, I only collected it to collect it. Outside a dragon battleaxe (which is now only used as cosmetic override) dragon hatchet and dragon pickaxe (both which are now in my toolbelt) I never use dragon weapons anymore. I only collect them for the sake of collecting.

Anyway, to me dragon weapons are the most cool looking weapons in the game.

Now the only melee weapon from the basic smithing tables that doesn't have a dragon version yet is shortsword. But if it was made would anyone honestly care?

I doubt it, I don't even think I, a guy who's a big fan of dragon weapons, would even remotely care about that.

The reason for that is because nobody uses shortswords. Out of all the weapons, shortswords are the ones least people care about.

Even back in the day long before weapons better than dragon existed, nobody cared for shortswords. I don't even think f2p users would ever consider even using a rune shortsword. And now that all the weapons of the same type have become the same damn weapon because of the evolution of combat update, there is even less of a reason to care.

So yeah.

I will buy one if it was released to have my melee dragon collection complete. But outside that I don't think anybody would honestly care.

So if it was made, (which I doubt since it's the least popular weapon) it shouldn't have a difficult quest requirement.

I guess it could be released for completeness, but it would have to be either a rare trophy item or just become more junk to alchemy lol.

The problem isn't that it's a shortsword, since those are actually pretty okay now, it's that it's a dragon weapon and (like the warhammer) they kind of missed the perfect time to add it by a good 10 years.

They didn't even need an "epic" way of introducing it, they could just have added it straight to the vendor in Zanaris.

I still think the only reason dragon weapons became quote-on-quote "irrelevant" is because more players care about getting the best weapons ever than how they actually look. I understand that now since being able to kill faster is after all important.

If dragon armor was better statswise than bandos, I can 100% guarantee no one would bother with bandos.

That is the exact reason it is irrelevant - the game is all about progressing to do better by having better gear and dragon got out-classed.

The same thing has happened many times to many things.

In the early days Black Armour was the rare peak of awesome stats, then they released mith addy and rune.

Then Rune was the sign of a real pro until the first iotas of dragon appeared.

Then one days the barrows appeared and dragon was slung on the heap of yesterdays news.

Then barrows got pummelled as Bandos and the gwd armours arrived.

Then those sets came to crash and burn as nex sets arrived.

Then with the arrival of ports armour and the t90 power armours nex sets have taken a hit.

And someday when t95 or t99 armours arrive ports etc will become fodder of the forgotten.

It's not exactly rocket science or some hidden secret - the best gear in-game rules the roost, the lesser gears slide into worthlessness as they become progressively further away from being the best.

I do see what you mean, but I don't wanna stop liking dragon equipment since most of the higher-tier items look beyond ugly.

I mean ew.

I'm glad overrides exist, that way I don't have to get rid of my dragon armor.

I would gladly show that I have a better armor, if it wasn't for the fact that dragon equipment (in my opinion at least) is the coolest looking equipment in the game.

Also, I honestly find it boring that everybody I see while fighting monsters are wearing Bandos, a. k. a. the same thing.

At least some people use overrides.

But most don't, so I see the same guy on different accounts a lot, which is boring to me.

Don't try to justify that by calling anything in a lower tier "irrelevant", attitude like that is what's killing creativity.

But... it kind of is irrelevant. Creativity is all well and good, but dragon just does not have the performance to back it up. The damage and accuracy are just not good enough.

Just don't paint it as an issue of creativity when it has nothing to do with creativity and everything to do with percormance. That isn't even what creativity is, and it's kind of insulting that you're trying to deflect it like that

Of course I know that, that's why I use overrides. More people should do that as well.

I dont know where you hang out, but I rarely see two people with the same gear showing. amongst people that can pay for it overrides are everything they wear what ever they want and have the armor or what ever to kill what they want.

maybe all the people in bandos that you see are ones that really like the look of bandos as you like dragon and they are overriding their statistically better gear with the appearance of bandos.

also no the short sword would be at best an oh look a larger dragon dagger better alch it and at worst something that is totally ignored

id say move on, yes you like your dragon armor and your dragon weapons, you have been gifted better armor and have obtained better weapons. if new dragon items get released (as they will) they will drop by the way-side faster than you can shake a stick. also, what would happen if they were to update the graphics again to make dragon armor look compeltely different or as it did in 07(yeah retro packs i know). what would you do then? maybe branch out, if you are not willing to move on, and find something that also suits your fancy.

When I fight steel dragons, almost everyone who uses melee has bandos armor.

I might be making a big deal out nothing, I probably am, but I just can't comprehend the ugliness of bandos, or any melee armor for that matter above dragon. But I shouldn't complain about it though, I should be thankful that overrides give me the option to wear dragon armor and still have the stats of a better armor, and I am. I guess I was too stubborn to forget to be thankful for that.

But alright, I am willing to admit. When I'm in Ardougne high alchemying the drops from steel dragons or stuff like that, people do wear variety of different armor. So saying that everybody I see wears the same was a huge exaggeration.

How many people are you even seeing meleeing steel dragons though?

The vast majority of people mage them because they are weak to mage. The number of people you see at 1 select monster is going to be tiny anyway and then the number using a less than optimum act style tinier still.

I've seen more players in 1 game of Pest Control than I have ever seen in all my years doing slayer at steel dragons. Heck in all my years I've could probably count the meleers I've seen at steel dragons on one hand.

Also I agree with Cow it's very rare I see people who aren't using some sort of override - between keepsake keys, highly demanded retropacks, and bonds making it possible to get solomans stuff for free I'd say around 85-95% of people I come across look different from each other due to their mixture of overrides or hidden item slots.

Make it a trophy drop of Rune Dragons with 1/1,000,000 drop rate and I'm sure people will go crazy for it.

Last time anyone was crazy over dragon weapons was when Legacy mode was released, when Dragon Claws spiked due to the 'return' of the spec,

However it faded very quickly as they realised that Dragon weapon stats are absolutely trash, making the spec utterly useless on that weapon.

I do agree overrides, despite a lot of controversy behind it, is a blessing in disguish. Drygores and Noxious weapons are, IMO, absolutely hideous to look at.

That would be far too high.

It would cost 2 billion coins for at least a year.
