Scherzo
Hey, I'm going to upgrade to ascension crossbows, but I only have the money for the mainhand atm. I assume it's better to use a combination of asc and offhand, but I'm asking just to be sure. Can i use Asc bolts when my offhand is chaotic, or would I be better off using dragonbane? If i recall correctly, dragonbane bolts are better than royal but worse than asc bolts at QBD. Hope you can help :)
chenw
For the first part: you should use Asc bolts. Your Chaotic Xbow can still use the bolts, but it will only inflict as much damage as royal bolts. For the second part: last time I tried it, Dragonbane is very good at QBD (it basically makes you hit QBD all the time), however your off hand should ideally be either Attuned Crystal Chakram or Death Lotus Darts if you have access to either if you use abilities. Otherwise Chaotic is good for off hand if you go legacy 6,924th to 30 hunting, 13,394th to 30 summoning, 52,993rd to 30 DivinationKiln Record (Post-EoC): W 25 - L 0, 14 Uncut Onyx, 8 Jad hits received (Best record: Two in the same kiln)Obby set renewed post update #2: 0QBD drops: 21 crossbow parts, 3 Visages, 1 Kites, 2 KitsMax Port Score [2205] Achieved: 27th April 2013 (World 2nd) Farmyard Rampage ranking: 12th, 50,000 Kills. Scherzo
Thank you for the quick answer! Just one question: Why is it that the chakram is better than the chaotic cbow as off-hand? The dart is fair enough, as it's t85, but isn't the damage output of the cbow and chakram the same?
Major Dash
The attuned version counts as like a level 82 weapon at 99 agility. “I had a feeling we weren’t coming back from this fight when it began.”“Do you have any regrets?”“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”“Mmmhmm.”

Saradomin_Mage
Dragonbane bolts are t60 damage, but when fighting against dragons while using them as ammo, your total ability damage (and accuracy) gets increased. If you use an offhand dragon, chaotic or ascension crossbow, the damage output of your offhand weapon remains equivalent to t60 because your offhand crossbow uses the damage of your ammo slot. Switching to an offhand weapon that has its own damage value (dld, attuned chakram, even blisterwood stakes) increases your ability damage more than an offhand crossbow would. 1 In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.
