Hero's Welcome | Summer Beach Party

A legendary Fremennik hero-turned-god comes home in style in Hero's Welcome: RuneScape's latest quest!

Head over to Lumbridge Crater, too, and join in the Summer Beach Party.

How to Start Hero's Welcome

Head to Rellekka and speak to the people arguing by the pier.

Requirements

You must be a RuneScape member

Lunar Diplomacy Tai Bwo Wannai Trio

60 Divination 67 Mining

62 Slayer 67 Smithing

All of Otto Godblessed's barbarian training complete

A combat level of at least 100 is recommended

In Hero's Welcome, you'll meet the mighty V – well known to those of you who've finished While Guthix Sleeps - as he returns to his people.

You'll embark on a series of dangerous raids on Dragonkin lairs, and uncover some of their darkest secrets. Be ready for combat, as there'll be plenty of fierce foes to fight, but you'll need brains as well as brawn to succeed.

Rewards

Prevail and you'll earn hearty helpings of XP, better yields when runecrafting, and access to new areas containing bane ore and adamant dragons. There's also a repeatable boss fight, which can drop new throwing weapons and a tradeable level 75 cape.

Summer Beach Party

The Summer Beach Party is in full swing, making Lumbridge Crater the place to be until the end of August!

Activities

Head to the beach party and take a look around. It's the ideal place to relax with your friends, take part in your favourite D&Ds via the portal hub, and enjoy some sun-soaked activities – plus pick up some unique rewards.

  • Fight Clawdia: At 45 past every hour, killer crustacean Clawdia will spawn at the crater in the middle of the beach party. Her damage scales to your life points, so everyone can dive in and help drive her back.
  • Build sandcastles: Follow the clues given to you by the nearby visitors and build the right castles for Construction XP.
  • Fish at the rock pools: Cast a line, kick back and get some Fishing XP while you're at it. Drop off the fish at the barbecues for extra XP.
  • Bust out the barbecue: Hit the barbecue stands and earn Cooking XP.
  • Pick coconuts: Gather coconuts from the palm trees for Farming XP, then deposit them at the coconut shy for extra XP.
  • Try the coconut shy: Test your skill at the coconut shy and earn Ranged XP.
More activities are coming over the next few weeks. Keep an eye on the news!

Every 15 minutes one of the XP-giving activities will be spotlighted, and it will yield +10% XP. Note that Ironman players earn 50% less XP for participating in beach activities.

You can keep earning XP until your temperature gauge fills up completely, although this can be reset up to three times a day by consuming ice creams.

Rewards

First up, there are a number of handy items that you can earn by fighting Clawdia and participating in other beach activities:

  • Ice cream: This tradeable item resets a full temperature gauge to 0. You can use up to three per day.
  • Anti-sun potion: Also tradeable, this item gives a +5% boost to any XP earned on the beach – that includes beach activities and any other training done there. The effect lasts for 24 hours (real time, not time spent logged in).
  • Cocktails: These come in four fruity flavours, each boosting XP gain in a different group of skills – combat, artisan, gathering and support. By drinking more of the same type, you can stack the XP boost up to 10%. The effect lasts for 30 minutes of logged-in time.
You can get these items from fighting Clawdia, from participating in the various beach activities, and by handing in a beach party ticket from the recent Summer Raffle.

There's also a rare chance to get a tradeable token that can be redeemed for one of several new beach items. These include cosmetic weapons and headgear, emotes and more:

  • Bunting whip
  • Stick of rock
  • Throwing starfish
  • Snorkel
  • Bucket head
  • Clawdia hat
  • Dragon ring
  • Buried in Sand resting animation
  • Surfboard emote
  • Beach ball
  • Throwing disc
There'll be new additions to the available items over the coming weeks – we'll let you know in the news.

Note that the tokens will automatically become untradeable at the end of this year.

These items can also be purchased from the vendors around the beach for RuneCoins, as can challenge gems, dwarven challenge barrels, party packs and masterwork music boxes.

Finally, there's a bunch of secret rewards available for fulfilling certain conditions on the beach. Have fun discovering them!

Seasonal Hiscore Reruns

There'll be one-off reruns of old Seasonal Hiscores, held weekly from 1st July. Here's when you can compete to unlock some of RuneScape's most sought-after titles:

Was this necessary? :P I am not seeing the point in playing ToG when you have near max XP, it is not like it is a real fun minigame. At least we cannot say they won't look at minorities :P 20 people can now play ToG again ;)

The point isn't that they can play the game. The point is that "The Distracted" title requires you to play a game in order to unlock it. So those players were unable to unlock the Distracted title.

Hahaha "anti-sun potion." Not willing to call it sunscreen, huh?

Well if sunscreen is for sun-lovers then an anti-sun potion would be for sun haters, right? :P

The thrown weapons are dragon javelins it seems. Dropped in stacks of 10-20 or so. They are a guaranteed drop (4 kills 4 drops, I assume it's a garanted)

It dropped a

Black dragonhide

Dragon Longsword

3 Rune bars (noted)

30 Magic Logs (noted)

Looks like it's dropping the javelins + 1 other drop.

It drops Hard Clues too.

IT HAS SO MUCH DEFENSE :D

If you stay too much in one place the roof is starting to fall down quite quick I wouldnt recommend it.

Doesn't look like it's worth it unless someone can figure out a way to abuse Abomination. It was a lot easier during the quest because you could circle around the bane ore that falls.

I really dunno how to feel about this quest

On the one hand there was some good Dragonkin plot progression FINALLY, everything we've had before now hasn't really sold any plot depth to them and it was sort of cool to see V.

On the other hand it seems like they utterly wasted him as a character by killing him within like 2 minutes of his return, especially given the hype about 'finally meet V' etc. Not to mention it didn't really make a whole heap of sense this one kin has been hunting him for ages and V evaded him for centuries, one foot on Gielinor and BOOM 3 kin who weren't after him previously find him. He just seem like a narrative device to further the kin rather than a genuine attempt to use the character.

Not to mention they kinda went down the route of the 'good' guy being an utter tool....again...I mean all that preaching about Guthix vision and defeating the other gods by manipulating weaker people into being his allies, forcing mortals to adapt in ways he sees fit and ultimately killing off allies? Can Jagex not just write an actual nice, GOOD god who isn't a 'fun' one like Marimbo or Brassica and isn't a lesser deity not really in the big plot like the pantheon folks. About the best we have so far is Armadyl and arguably he hasn't had his quest yet so strap in for utter tool v3.0 when that happens.

Also after all the waffle of not wanting to overwhelm us with loads more gods they go and name drop another two entirely unheard of gods that, according to V, are here or on their way here.

I mean seriously? For not bombarding us with new gods for the sake of it we've got Jas, Ful, Wen, Bik, Mah, Zaros, Seren, Guthix, Saradomin, Jododu Otuku, Armadyl, Zamorak, Tuska, Skargaroth, Bandos, Tumeken, Elindis, Marimbo, Brassica Prime, Amascut, Icthlarin, Het, Apmeken, Crondis, Scarabas, V, Queen of Ashes, Xau-Tak, Lornab and Ebeb.

And that's just the gods that we have NAMES for, there's still others yet like the un-named ones V allied with and/or fought, the Karamjan god, the one that died in a drinking contest vs Marimbo etc.

As for how the quest played, I dunno it just all felt a bit safe, most of the actions involved weren't really all that interesting or new and just rehashed things we've done before. I did enjoy the final fight, it was kinda like how the Sea Slug Queen should've been done instead of just mine-x = win.

About V

There is a chapter about him in the Book of the Gods after the quest.

Last paragraph

"Before I begin I must set forth my plan for how to defend my people, and the people of the world."

Considering he did mention relying on his cunning once in a while, there is still some small chance he faked his death.

Possible, but unlikely. I do hope that Jagex hears the crowd and do something with it tho...

I guess V can take solace in the fact that he isn't a total loser unlike Guthix. I've come to the realization that Guthix is the worst of all the major gods,  a sentimental fool who didn't have what it takes to get the job done, and a complete loser.

Aside from that though, this was pretty much a rehash of the World Wakes:

You're going to meet this great new NPC! Isn't that so awesome? He's almost here! ZOMG, he's here. Oh, wait, nope. RIck-rolled! He's going to die within 2 minutes of meeting you by the bad guys. But don't worry! You'll be able to avenge him 3-4 years from now in some other storyline. In the meantime, his followers have made a shrine to honor him because he was awesome."

V or zaros, who to choose now.

Like them exploring more of the dragonkin background and expanding on the known kin. But i hate how they finally made a god that people could finally relate to instead of an ideological stereotype, then went and made him a throwaway character.

also from the book of gods

Does anyone have a transcript for V's book of the gods?

Chapter 1

Soon I will return to my homeland. From what I have learned it is more than in need of my guidance. The god wars have begun again and Guthix has fallen. Much as i respect him I now can see that his passive stance has brought nothing but corruption and collapse. I should have returned sooner and persuaded him to turn his powers to heroic endeavour, but I will not be an oathbreaker, not even for that.

From what i can see from this distance it appears that my world and people face dire threats. Not only has that sanctimonious preacher Saradomin appeared, but some upstart called Sliske has goaded the gods into some sort of grotesque display of force. In addition I can tell a perfect jewel like Gielinor will soon draw the attention of outsiders. That brutal monster, Tuska, will not ignore this prize for long. Nor will the Queen of Ashes waste time recruiting the downtrodden to her infernal cause. I can even feel the tendrils of Xau-Tak have already taken root somewhere on the world. All of these taints will need to be cleansed away!

Before I begin I must set forth my plan for how to defend my people, and the people of the world

Chapter 2

Firstly I will need to work on the quality of the mortals available. Even the Fremennik have become indolent and lazy compared to the heroes of old. A return to the old way, coupled with a harsh training regime will soon put a stop to this. The Moon Clan will need to switch from contemplation to warrior magics, as well. I feel confident that many of them will become competent warrior-mages as a result.

Recruitment will not be too much of a  problem. I will first start with the goblin races. My personal strength coupled with a mercy they are not used to experiencing will win me many converts. The ogres and trolls may take more work, but I can steer this world's heroes towards eliminating any competition.

As the god wars continue it will not be too hard to find further material for building my army. The dispossessed and vengeful can make a good addition to my forces.

Chapter 3

I will also need to form a coalition of lesser gods to oppose the bigger players in this game. This has worked on multiple occasions before and will serve me well again. As the higher-tier gods tear themselves apart they will leave chances to strike. I and my companions will take these chances.

To bring these other gods on my side I will need to employ trickery and statesmanship. Pulling the forces of a larger god into conflict with the reluctant will provide them little opportunity to refuse joining forces with me. By leading from the front I will secure their friendship and trust.

With these two weapons at my disposal I should be able to enact a more fitting version of Guthix's plan. The gods will be swept from the world, sadly including my allies. I will of course need to fake my death at the hands of the last to be destroyed, but my 'death' will fuel my final victory. I will of course need to think of a new version of the 'carry on my legacy, my people' speech.

Chapter 4

With luck this will leave behind a world free from gods, filled with heroes unbound by the decadence of the present civilization. This wil leave me free to journey elsewhere before my wanderlust becomes too great. Much as I would like to install myself as a permenant resident of my homeworld, this would both go against the spirit of Guthix's ideals and leave many good deeds undone.

By faking my own death I will be free of further requests for aid, other than the most desperate pleas. Returning in a blaze of glory like a risen phoenix appeals to my sense of the dramatic. If I act swiftly enough I may even be able to head off to check the advances of the outer gods.

Wow, I thought V was a pretty swell guy, but reading that transcript, although his end game is rather good, he's rather manipulative in how he does it. Why does every god have to skip around the gray line in this game!? He's willing to go as far as Saradomin when it comes to the Ogres and others who may decide against joining him? Sheesh!

Well at least he is dead. I wish the story panned out a little differently, it would have been cool if he was a genuine swell kind of guy and lives and you go off in future quests/mini games/raids around different universes helping him save different planes from evil gods and vicious hordes of monsters![/hide]

hm. that's actually kind of close to what i was planning, but i guess now that he's dead for real (it would be difficult for him to fake the events of the quest and none of it really served the purpose he had in mind unless it was specifically to drive you to take down his stalker), i'll continue working with what i was doing before

let's be real, the only way the issue would be resolved with a similar end result would still require a degree of manipulation, since most of the sides are too swept up in their own goals to actually look at the larger picture, except big z, except he's so big picture he can't even get anything done without unnecessary collateral damage. it would have have been significantly easier with v's help, though. some of the godless might have even accidentally helped him without knowing the degree to which he would be plotting.

the only major downside to this plan is that the higher tier gods have a tendency to cause damage to the planet when they explode, but there might be a way to mitigate that. the other thing that i would note is that when you think back to when he's mentioned that he has met many other hero gods, you have to wonder if he ended up getting them all killed.
