How much do you pay for cell phone service

Tesset

Recommended Posts

I live in the central us, and my new roommate is a foreign exchange student from Germany. I took him to a store today to look for cell phone plans, and he was extremely surprised by the cost. He said he paid €8 per month for talk, text, and 400 mb of data. The cheapest plan here with a carrier was $35/mo with no data. Tracfone, which he ended up going with, was $25 for 90 minutes of talk (.3 minutes/text).

So I'm curious:

• What do you pay for cellphone service

• What does that net you

• Where do you live

• Is that pretty normal for where you live?

I pay nothing for my phone...my parents pay it for me as part of their plan :P. I think it is quite a bit for the base though, and an extra $10 a line or something in that ballpark. Didn't Sprint have some deal where you and a bunch of friends could split the cost?

i pay about 70 doll hairs per month in the US. i pretty much have the minimum data/texting/calling plans since my iphone's imessage doesn't count as text messages and I've got wifi most of the time so I don't really need data. also I usually just use skype instead of a phone call for long calls.

Our family has a plan where its unlimited talk and text for all phones and 5 Gb's of data to share. Believe the plan is around $100-110. For the most part it's worth it.

I pay £20 a month for 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 1gb data and I kinda picked a more costly plan cause I use a fair bit. Before data was a thing I paid like £12 a month for unlimited mins and texts.

For around 10$ we have a family plan that has pretty much unlimited calls and texts for five phones and I have additional data, unlimited speed 4G, 1,5GB per month for ~7 bucks.

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Etc, etc

I had the $50 T-mobile plan back in the US. Included unlimited text, calls, and data. First gig of data was 4g and i think then it went down 2g.

In Qatar i pay ~ $35 for 450 minutes/messages (basically a message counts as a minute) and 1 gig data. If i recall correctly, Qatar is one the most expensive countries in this regard.

$35 (including tax) for unlimited texting, local calls, and data. I'm with one of the newest carriers though so the coverage is garbage compared to the big 3

This thread seems to point to the same thing, Europe is significantly cheaper than other countries (continents?) in regards to cell phone plan prices. Huh. I wonder why that is.

Because the Europeans know how to run a country not based on extortion

Tbf its kinda not surprising America gets boned on cell phone costs - your network after all is A LOT bigger so there is more up front cost for a network to actually cover the entire US and connect you to people all over the US.

I mean our minutes and texts in the Europe don't usually include international coverage, which means the area they are 'valid' for is usually about the size of 1 US state or less (depending on which state and which country)

$45 a month for unlimited call and texts and 2 GB of data.

It's the cheapest I can get on Tmobile with unlimited call/text, as far as I can tell. Data usage varies but is generally under 500 MB, but I prefer 2 GB just in case of an emergency where I don't have internet access and need to download a Linux ISO (hahaha, ok).

Here's an interesting video about internet in Romania (ignore the ridiculous intro lol) Perhaps the same thing applies to cellular service?

I think I'm $65 or $70. Among other things, I have caller ID, a third of I think 2GB of data (shared with two other phones), and voicemail (almost wish I didn't have that. I have caller ID, I'll call you back).

I don't think I could get it for less than $55 dollars.

Wind?

My ex had that for a while, but the coverage was absolute shit. For me personally, I have Bell. Unfortunate consequence is that I end up spending well over $70 for mine (unlimited texting throughout Canada, and unlimited calling but a shitty data plan). I might consider cutting costs if gas prices go up any higher...

Yep. Coverage was awful at the beginning, but over the past few years it's been pretty good (maybe 90% as good as one of the big guys). The biggest problem is pay per use fees outside of the home zone, but when I'm in the gta it works pretty well.

$20 for unlimited text and a 66% reduction in calling rates. I used to have a $10 unlimited data add-on but I never used it.

I've been using this same phone for 7 years, though, so the plan likely doesn't exist anymore. And if it does, I would be surprised if it was still only $20.

Pretty good coverage, too. It even worked in the middle of the factory I used to work in, despite nobody else's working.

I hope it was a really long video and not just a 30 second clip or something.
