Something else for everyone to take note of... With School being in-session currently, player counts in-game and users present on forums have also taken a severe hit for now.  Try looking forward to the summer vacations. ;)

~D. V. "It's just that time of year." Devnull

I'm not so sure about that; it might just be the players I'm exposed to but the rs community seems to be older than it used to be, at least to the point where school vacation times aren't as big an influence as they used to be.  I'd bet that RuneFest couldn't have happened in 07 just due to lack of the audience's financial or familial independence.  I might be wrong, most of the people on here have aged with me and I certainly don't socialize in rs with many new people anymore.  I just honestly doubt that the waning audience numbers have much to do with school schedules anymore, and if over any future summer vacation this place becomes as active as it was in ~2010 I'll eat my 3DS.

It is older because the player base, from back in the old days when this game attracted new players, have all grown up. Even the 10 year olds from 07 should be out of high school now.
Back after a 5 year TIF hiatus. Please don't mind me too much.

There is definitely a younger player base, but certainly a lot of the more established end-game players seem to be adults, there always has been a big adult playerbase for RS, but the ratio has shifted.

Looking at these forums or my time in clans - way back when in the early 00s there was maybe 25% of people I interacted with that were like 30s, 40s or higher. The rest of us were all around school age.

Now though I see maybe 20% school age, the 'us' from back in the day are all 20s and 30s and the adults from back then who still play are of course older too.

Man I just came back to these forums after not posting since July 2014 and it really sucks how dead they seem to be.

I mean, I know it seems the "big" RS discussion is now on Reddit, but I'm not that fond of Reddit, I'll always prefer traditional forums to be honest.

I'm just starting to play RS again, so will be using tthe tip it forums.

Not interested in the reddit or the other social media platforms. Forums will always be the best. You get a family vibe from them..

Beg some people add me up in game though, having not played for so many years all my friends seem to have quit.

I like how people always talk as if reddit is not a forum - sure it's not your classic layout that screams forum but with user accounts, threads and replies its basically a forum.

It's definitely not a traditional forum. There's far too many people, a lot of the dicussion is pointless - albeit funny - memes and other trash, you barely get to know the people there, and so on. It's mostly a townsquare kind of thing where you go to get the news, it's not a forum. The discussion there is very shallow, ephemeral and fleeting, usually done for popularity (though, with the like system that exists on this forum too, but posts on Reddit get hundreds of likes, whereas on TIF, usually a handful at most), and most threads on Reddit are forgotten about in a day or two at most, as they disappear from the front page, whereas discussions on traditional forums can last forever, and there's depth to them, it isn't just a transparent popularity contest.

THIS! It's all about getting to know people on a forum. None of that on Reddit

It is a forum by the very definition of the word, but it's layout and style doesn't actually lend for any prolonged and lengthy discussion. It distills discussion down to short points or pointless altogether when actual thoughtful replies often go unnoticed due to the display style/upvote system. Basically it becomes like an echo chamber. It's unfortunate.

There isn't a whole lot of room for discussion on reddit... it's a very polarizing, circlejerk community. I was subbed to the 07scape subreddit for a while, but anytime I posted anything that went against the community zeitgeist, I'd just get downvoted into oblivion. If someone ever responded to my points, it was only to call me names lol

There was a thread a couple of days ago where someone was whining about getting PK'd in Deadman Mode-- you know, the mode where when you log in, the first thing the chatbox says is "Welcome to Deadman mode. On these worlds, you die." Someone in that thread made a comment along the lines of "the point of the game mode is to kill people; it's not supposed to be a safe game." He ended up getting about 100 downvotes for that comment. 100 downvotes! Amazing.

Don't get me wrong I'm not by any means saying the kind of environment or posting that Reddit receives is in anyway the same vibe as you get from an old school forum like here. They do foster different types of discussion etc.

My literal only point was that I find it interesting that even though Reddit is a forum, albeit it in a differing format to the 'classic' style, people make sweeping statements whereby 'forums' and 'reddit' are two different things.

I agree with your last statement. A forum is more conducive to holding focused conversations while reddit seems to favor fleeting moments.

I've never taken the time to understand Reddit because it just looks ugly, as far as I could tell it's just lists of questions with no sub categories.

I will always prefer this style of forum, it's a shame they are a dying breed.

They are two different modes, as far as I'm concerned.

They don't have to die, a community is as strong as its members.

All I see here is that people are basically giving up by saying there's no way for us to compete with the other help/fan sites.

If more Tip.It members helped updating our database and used their time polishing old out-dated guides we would gain more popularity. It's simply a matter of trying. With or without J mods.

Each site has their advantages and disadvantages, we aren't done for, and we wont be thanks to those who are still keeping the site running and constantly updating the website.

If you see something that's missing, old or otherwise should be mentioned; Don't hesitate to report it out in the forums.

If I may; I'm currently working in reincarnating TMHT and at the same time spending time in updating the database. Anyone interested in joining the TMHT project please contact me as soon as you can. Happy holidays.

If it's not too much trouble could you see about asking Crew leader if I could come back? I'm under the impression y'all need some crewbies.
