das1330
OK i'm not sure if you have noticed, but jagex has been increasing the databases size, adding the rewards for a quest, stats on items and a bestiary. Also, they have been heavily discouraging the use of forums and tip sites such at tipit, trying to put information like that on tipit onto the main site. here's the real question, is jagex trying to scale down or replace tip sites all together? what do you think, because that is what its looking like to me. gonzlar
Business? Lol my friend Jagex isn't trying to put tip.it out of "business". They are merely adding a ultra-safe alternative to fan sites. As long as tip.it and other fan sites abhor to Jagex's rules for fansites, then we have nothing to worry about. They're probably using it also to draw in more advert revenue. bmxrider
they are just making it easier for players to find the information they need, so there isnt any need to leave the runescape site, becuz some fan sites contain viruses, even though some think they dont *cough* they want every1 to be safe and not have to leave their site to find information about the game :) 99/99 Crafting86/85 Mining
swordwarior
I think there trying to make information there for grabs, it sure beats having people follow you around asking questions, trying to tell them to use tip.it and then getting a black mark. Its nice feature for new players, but ill be sticking to tip.it :P

Yeah, I looked at the new database once- the day it came out just to see what it was like. I am pretty much a TipIt guy :D . dymed
That Knowledge Base is amazing. It's so nicely organized and damn convenient. So easy to look up the stats for things and compare them. Or to find the experience points for certain things. It's even got the max hits for each magic spell, including Ancients. It's a great thing they added. However, Tip.it is mainly used for the forums, or at least by it's "loyal supporters." And the Jagex forums have nothing on this one.
ziggy33333
Notice that other games with millions of players, take WoW for example, usually have the most detailed and organized information on the offical site.
x_bow80
Well, it has to cut down on scamming, so they have to "try" to cut down on fansites. And to do that they have everything fansites have  99 Pics - Range, Defence, HP, Attack, Magic, Strength, Cooking

And to do that they have everything fansites have  yea, but jagex should have put the knowladge base a long time ago if they wanted fansites to go down(KB is crappy,Tip.it rules all out) Woot! Craven_Image
Not all users of RuneScape know of tipit, therefore, having a knowledge base makes it easier for their customer support crew who must get inundated with lots of questions from inexperienced players. 99 Magic, 99 Defence, 99 Strength, 99 Attack, 99 Hitpoints, 99 Fletching, 99 Woodcutting, 99 Firemaking, 99 Thieving, 99 Ranged, 99 Prayer, 99 Cooking, 99 Fishing
peter_selie
I don't think it can compete with Tip.it. I'm just hoping the knowledge base is a sign of improved customer service, I might be a bit too positive though. But as said before, Tip.it surely isn't going anywhere. *secondary YAY to the one in mastersamus's sig*
Lightning
I don't think we have anything to worry about here. We still have alot of features that Jagex will not do :) I am in full agreement with them about adding to their website. Its about bloody time! its will save alot of scanning, users searching for help sites and ending up lord knows where. Only took them 5 yrs to do it lol. (runs from Andrew ;)) I really can't see it effecting us too much. Andrew not out to kill websites, he never has been, but secruity for his users is a issue. As most users know here, most fansites have had their problems in the past and this has caused problems for Jagex and their users. We try everything here to keep out lord knows what from these boards, but there will always be a risk in using fansites. Its really up to the user to make sure they don't get caught out and us to keep are eyes peeled :) I really wouldn't worry about what Jagex does on their site, we have some few thousand loyal users here, and as long as they continue to use this site, tip.it will never die. Gamerr
I think the main advantage of help sites is that they are created by players. I mean that creators of a game not always see the negative points, for example i think there are players who are better pk-ers then Andrew and co. Ok, many skill guides are also written in the KB, but tips and hints to do abbyss, kalphite etc. aren't a part of the KB. Also, a helpsite is a community seperated from the huge community of RuneScape, it's a little more personal. So i think not, and we don't have to worry, as long there's RuneScape, there will be tip.it (and other helpsites ofcourse :))

knightofrs
i beleive thats one of the reasons jagex built the KB, but still craven said, not all players knows about tipit, but i think jagex realeased the KB for these reasons: 1. To help their players 2. to shut tipit down
