The line up is terrible this year. I'm going to Leeds instead.
WHAT!?
Theres a couple of good bands there but the atmosphere of the festival is rubbish. Too commercialised, too many young kids and too many chavs. Sunday night is an awful line-up... apart from Muse

Very poor line up this year.. From the previous year's line ups I have seen, this one seems pretty rubbish.

I don't know what it is, but something keeps telling me you "own"?

Muse are better than all of the bands at Download put together. And they've got Franz, Primal Scream, and Feeder! The emo crap there lets the side down, but I'd still rather go Leeds.

The only good bands there are Strapping Young Lad, Throwdown, and Hatebreed. All three of which I have seen before anyway. The only others I wouldn't mind watching are The Prodigy and Stone Sour, but Corey's vocals are terrible these days. It's an absolutely diabolical line up. Leeds is better.

What about Metallica, GnR, Tool, Deftones, Trivium, 36 Crazy Fists.... as aposed to Panic at the Disco, The Streets and My Chemical Romance? Laugable.

While Leeds also has some amazing bands such as Muse, Primal Scream, The Raconteurs and The Dresdon Dolls it also has some pretty poor bands there too. Plus a festival isnt just about the music, I get the feeling youve never been to Glastonbury but i could be wrong. Theres something about the atmosphere at a festival like that which is completely lost at Leeds/Reading.

What about them? I have no interest in any of those bands, especially Trivium and Metallica. Granted, I've never gave them all that many listens, they just don't appeal to me.

I'm not saying the Leeds line up is anything to go insane over either. Panic! At the Disco and My Chemical Romance are a joke. I'm going for Pearl Jam, Slayer, Mastodon, The Streets, The Cribs, Dirty Pretty Things, Dizzee Rascal, Maximo Park, and Killswitch Engage. I think there's more but I can't think of them off of the top of my head.

No, this is going to be my first festival. But I didn't say anything about the atmosphere, I just said the line-up was bad.

Well for a "diabolical" lineup i sure as hell enjoyed myself. Here's a quick rundown of the bands i saw:

Friday: Throwdown, Soil, Strapping Young Lad, Soulfly, Coheed and Cambria, Deftones, Tool.

I only watched Coheed and Cambria so i could get a good position to see Deftones (which i did, 6 rows back) and they really really sucked. Deftones were easily the best band of the day, but i guess i'm a little biased because they're my favourite band.

Saturday: Devildriver, Alice In Chains, Stone Sour, Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium, Korn, Metallica.

No disappointments here, except that Jon Davis was ill so Korn had a shorter set with guest vocalists. Alice in chains were unbelievably good, definitely my favourite band of the weekend. Avenged sevenfold surprised me in a good way, and Trivium were actually pretty bad.

Sunday: Hatebreed, Dragonforce, 36 Crazyfists, In Flames, Bullet For My Valentine, Guns N' Roses.

All excellent except dragonforce - great musicians but power metal really isn't my thing. I could list Funeral For A Friend but i fell asleep halfway through their 3rd song. Guns N' Roses were awesome (with the exception of Axl babbling about crap for a bit too long), but for me 36CF were the best band of the day.

Weather was awesome, pear cider tasted great, the bands rocked and i generally had a friggin great time. This was my 3rd year in a row at Download and i'll definitely be making it 4.

Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.

after my exams, this is where I'll be heading. Tool will be there as well (all right, I love their new album!), and soooooo many more great bands. Just check out the line-up, again, we Belgians prove that we have the best festivals in the world ;)

I watched it all go on, and the news reports are really exaggerated. There was a big fire started in our camp which people were throwing cans of gas on (stupid, i know, i wasn't doing it), a fire truck came along, put out the fire and then the firemen let people stand on top of the truck.

I didn't see any confrontation or real trouble, it was all in good fun - although i've heard that in other camp sites people were fighting and destroying stuff.

As for the bottling, the only bands i saw bottled were Cradle Of Filth (as i passed by) and Funeral For a Friend (before i fell asleep). Guns n Roses got a couple of bottles thrown at them, but that stopped when the bassist said he'd go home if another bottle came his way. Fair enough really.

To Oy_the_Great:

That festival looks great, although the lineup strikes me as odd because it's so diverse. Deftones and Black Eyed Peas on the same stage isn't something i'd expect to see, but i guess it's good not to have 1 particular genre dominating.

Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.

Yeah, Werchter is known for its diversity. It's basically a collection of popular bands and DJs. You just have to pick out the good ones, so not the BEP ;)

I've heard it's even the world's biggest festival held on a regular base (every year, beginning of the summer); about 80.000 ppl go there every day, and it's 4 days.

pfft Glastonbury has about 100,000 more than that in a festival spanning 5 days in total.
