tomdavies90
Now many of you probably won't even know where it is but for those of you that do, i'm asking one question, did any of you go today? and if you did, did you find it really really rubbish today? i mean what with all the controversy over the ride crashing* (which happened just as we arrived, saw the air ambulance) and it was soo packed we only got on 3 rides in like 6 hours....so what did you think of today if you went and im sure someone may have? *if you know where Alton Towers is or are just intruiged, then read on heres the story from the AOL news site... An investigation is under way after 29 people were injured in an accident on a ride at Alton Towers. Four people were taken to hospital and 25 others were treated for minor injuries after the front end of the Runaway Mine Train carriage became separated from the rest, then rolled into the back end. An inquiry by the parks management team and the Health and Safety Executive has been launched. A spokeswoman for the Staffordshire theme park said the ride, which carries up to 46 people and which was full at the time, was stopped immediately in line with emergency procedures following the incident which happened at around 11am. She said everyone was evacuated and the ride was clear within forty minutes. Two women, aged in their late 30s or early 40s, were airlifted to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent suffering possible whiplash, spinal or abdominal injuries. Staffordshire Ambulance Service said the rest of the casualties were taken to an on-site medical centre where a doctor decided that a third woman should attend the same hospital for a check-up. She was taken by land ambulance. A fourth person, a man, is believed to have made his own way to a minor casualties centre in Leek. The Alton Towers spokeswoman said: "The park's fully-trained First Responders were also at the scene within minutes and a number of guests are being cared for on-site with cuts, bruises and minor injuries. As a precaution, four guests have been taken to hospital. "The health and safety of our guests is our primary objective. The ride has been closed and will remain so whilst a thorough investigation is carried out by the park's management team together with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)." She said the rest of the park remained open as usual. pretty bad eh i mean it wasn't uber serious like the ride exploded and it is one of the older rides but still pretty bad for like one of the biggest, if no the biggest theme park in England to have something like that happen... Anesthesia
Alton towers is great if your idea of fun is standing for an hour waiting to get on a 1 minute ride. And paying way over the odds for things. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

caligula101
Alton Towers is great if you enjoy being stung by wasps, McDonalds type food and candy floss that is ever so sticky. Bad experience of theme parks, please don't ask

Ragen
I personally love going to Alton Towers. From the five times I have been, only once was it packed to the point of being un-enjoyable. I think that the last two big rides they made are brilliant. Air and Rita are amazing experiences. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar! Mercifull
Accidents happen. If rollercoasters didnt have at least a bit of danger to them then they wouldnt be as good. No-one died, i expect more accidents happened on the motorway on the way than happens every year at the park anyway. tomdavies90
Air and Rita are class my favourite tho is either spinball wizzer (loads of people underestimated it as a kiddie ride but it's so fun) and olbivion is so good nemesis is pretty boring after you go on it 6 times in a day.... cjlhdevil
Firstly I don't understand how you first say you only went on 3 rides in 6 hours? Then secondly you went on oblivian 6 times in 1 day? I recently stayed in the alton towers hotel with 8 friends, we managed to do pretty much every ride at least once, air and nemesis 5 times each other the 2 days, not very long queues max 45mins for oblivian and rest sub 40mins. You were obviously going at a time when schools have just broken up for holiday so what did you expect...?

Oy_the_Great
Haha, this reminds me of our corse 'Production & Logistics'; the queueing problem. The same problem occurs in factories, where there's often a far too big stock. There's a famous solution to it; Just-In-Time management. Many American theme parcs have succesfully applied it, perhaps this Alton Towers thing might do the same? Queueing for 2 hours is just ridiculous. Theme park queues are about what ride is in most demand... you can't make people go to a ride they don't want to because it's got an empty queue... It's a matter of JIT and marketing, fairly easy. I suppose you know something about the constrain theories as well? They're the key to this problem. Feel free to PM me with the matter if you want to discuss it. We have only just seen this in class, I'm an applied economics student so I assume know what I'm saying here and I'm not fond of talking rubbish.
