That's laughable. Go to the Runescape forums and you'll see just how many people try to report these bots over and over and nothing happens.. well, you'll see it until Jagex's toadies lock the threads anyway.

nothing happens instantly and that's what throws people off. that, and the fact that the minute the bot gets a ban, ten more take it's place. the report button works well enough on individual bots, however, the creator makes hundreds at a time.

Jagex needs to pull its head out of the sand and put employees IN the game, dealing with these issues.

now what do you think would happen if a jagex mod was to wander around free worlds these days...?

this is basically the argument that jagex staff members have superpowered reporting abilities...

there is a large macroing problem in this game because there's money in it. a lot of ignorant children play this game and don't bother to read the rules. that and the fact that it is relatively cheap.

warcraft doesn't have a macroing problem because it is expensive enough that it would be hard to make a profit from gold farming. runescape is free, so it's easier. that and on members, there is still profit even with $5 per month. there are more valuable items, they're just illegally reaping the rewards.

Heh, and what about KO and CO? You trying to phase them out? Both of them are free just as Runescape, yet don't have the problem :anxious:

BUT, just to fit your argument, lets say I am a level 3 (With no stats...Just for the sake of argument) member macroing... Your arguments still actually don't make since.

Let me give you some info. Picking flax in members gives, eh, I'd say about 1000 flax/h since your bot runs perfectly without mistake. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say it takes 4 days to ban a macroer and an hour taken out of this macroing time because of transfering and walking, I'd personally it would be a week before one is banned, but meh, lets see how things pan out your way (By saying your way, I mean the quicker ban):

4 * 24 = 96 (Hours macroed)

96 - 1 = 95 (Because of walking/transfering

95 * 1000 = 95,000 (How much flax will one pick?)

95,000 * 100 = 9,500,000 How much gold one could earn with this number of flax

Considering one could buy one mill for, lets say $5USD (Of course illegally), this one bot alone earned the macroer 8,500,000gp = $42.50USD in 4 days. Considering one person may be running, eh, lets say 5 bots at a time... That is equal to a GAIN of $212.50USD or 42,500,000gp in 4 days... Including the $8 it would cost to buy memberships for each bot through PayPal, that's a NET GAIN of $172.50...

This would be equal to working more than 7 hours every one of these 4 days at $6 an hour, which is about the average teen-job at Wal-Mart or the Home Depot...

Lets say 4/5 of these bots are banned before the mills are transfered and sold, but 1 of the 5 bots got away because Jagex lost track the transactioins including those mills, or because the mills were sold to a (Most likely soon to be banned) person. The macroer still made a NET GAIN $2.50... And may I add that that is still a profit...

So, given your argument that we can't expect things instantly, you're implying that this will just keep going on and on and on because of the gains these people are making...

None2None, I completely agree with that last post - it simply isn't responsible for us as players to see a macroer, report them, and then say "Well, they'll be banned in a few days, and these things take a while". That just isn't good enough, given that the creator has a dozen macoers going at any one time, and they'll just create another account to replace that banned macroer.

Jagex needs to start getting involved in the RS community. I think that a solution to this is to put an IP ban on whatever computer the macroer was operating on. However, sometimes I get the impression that Jagex doesn't really want to do this because they like to appeal to families, and families use shared computers, so you'd hurt more than one person in the process.

Jagex seems to have gotten into a bad habit of relying on Player Mods as a panacea to the macroing problem. I don't think this is fair on the P-Mods - they want to playthe game just as we do, and their powers with macroers aren't actually any greater than the average player, since as they can only mute, and macorers don't talk. Jagex needs to start spending the millions of pounds they keep bragging about on in-game security, so they can actually personally monitor their own game.

IP bans are not the panacea that many people think they are. If it were that easy, Jagex would have done it already. Remember that IP addresses are not tied specifically to individuals or even computers.

As I've been saying for a long time now, the core of the problem is insufficient technology combined with a lack of online supervision. Jagex has completely abandoned maintaining an active presence in its own game, despite claiming publicly that this is important.

The bot issue on F2P is exacerbated by the ease with which accounts can be created. But at least on P2P, this mess should have been cleaned up ages ago.

I don't understand why people are getting angry over the macros. Yes they make it difficult to play the game fairly.

But please, think of the big picture!

If no one buys their gold in exchange for real currency, then the autoers will eventually leave.

I don't really know of a way that Jagex could stop these transactions from happening. They can't legally spy on the gold sites.

Does anybody have any ideas of how to put these autoers out of business?

The only way I see it is to stop all unbalanced trades (drop trades, pk kills, player death, etc..)

I might of said this before but

BARRICADES

From castlewars, you can't walk through em and marcos will get stuck! just put 10 around a tree and watch macros just stand there forever!, or til they log.

I know they could just world swap but hey! 1 less tree macro-tized!

Actually, it's very easy to program bots to walk around barricades, and they would be used by twits to annoy the hell out of real players.

the way to remove macros would likely be to permanently ban all account involved with real world trading, then shut down the sites

at the very least that would probably be a temporary fix

Reporting as many autoers as you can, can help jagex find better ways to catch them

and ban them faster. It's always kind of an uphill battle, and sometimes the autoers are

huge in number, jagex does something and they stop mostly, then they come back again.

It doesn't take much effort to spot an autoer. They never have expensive items on

never more than iron, rarely steel. Myself I've seen very few autoers higher than

mid 30's combat since it takes much longer time to raise past that.

There are, of course, bots in all online mmo's and more in each as the game

gains popularity. Games like 'maple story' for instance being totaly horribly overrun with

auto bots since they have even less means to stop it than RS if you can imagine that.

They're in it for the money basicly, and if you know/suspect somone is an autoer

then yes, report them and don't trade with them. And if you know the sites that

do the money selling, send and keep sending those to the Jagex people so they can

look into it and do whatever legal action they need to shut them down.

world 96 just south of port sarim jail last night, there had to be around 50 of them cutting willows. Personally i think they should have a patrol of jagex mods hopping worlds but staying at the same location just banning all they see.

They need to update tutorial island so autoers can't get passed it. If they had a big test type thing to see if your an autoer, and to get off the island you had to pass it, then no more autoers.

There are many ways Jagex could eliminate, or at least drastically reduce, the autoer menace.

All of them involve the company actually paying some time, attention and money to the problem, which they have shown repeatedly they aren't interested in doing.

I was being sarcastic... I have been one of the leading complainers about Jagex's lack of attention to problems in the game, like macroers and scammers.

Unfortunately, the company these days only seems to care about money, and nothing else.

"If Jagex refuse to do it we will!

We can form groups of people, no not groups!

An army, a RED army!

An army builed and based on the hopes of the communism!

The communism was builed by the workers but ruled by the cruel.

But we can still make our dream - 'coz we are all equal!

Maybe they won't give me the paradise with out autoers

But that is not nessersary, I will fight for it myself

if I have too. I have a dream. Not like freedom to one race

like what Martin Luther King Jr. fought for, but

I have a dream, and I will keep it and it will be a

DREAM of freedom to every single scaper between 3 and 126.

A dream that a world with appear without the snakes in our paradise

A dream that world with no autoers exists in reality!

This is yet not a dream but a fact!

We can fight for this world with no autoers

And react out for the dream..."

- Chr!stopher, devoted Socialist and RuneScaper

Describing the "anti-autoers army" using algebra/mathematics and english:

So my point is that we can form a group of people walking around RuneScape and deviding the autoers up between each other and report them. Using this equation:

X*devided*Y*equals*Z*times*1*equals*W

X=number of autoers

Y=number of players to report

Z=number of reports per player to report

1=number of minutes between each report

W=number of total minutes to report everyone

Considering 25 autoers at the same spot but only one player to report:

25*devided*1*equals*25*times*1*equals*25

Taking 25 minutes reporting all of them!

Now considering 25 autoers at the same spot but five players to report:

25*devided*5*equals*5*times*1*equals*5

Taking 5 minutes to report all of them!

Now Jagex have annoced that they wishes everybody to warn before reporting so before telling who to report who they say loud and clear:

"We are hunting down people using macro. Please a bit away if you are not". Then all the autoers would proberly remain - there should be a player mod amoungst the hunters so that people with public chat off also would hear it.

Now logically only autoers would remain so now they can easy tell who to report who and begin the reporting. Tell all non-autoers that it's over and go to next spot.

Now this would be hard to organize but if it was repeated constantly over a period you would get rid of autoers!

Now consider, what would you most like, spend 1 week day every 1-2 weeks to walk around reporting which would take 2 hours maybe. Or living with autoers making RuneScape a hell of a game to play?
