  1. Why do I play, hmm? Why indeed. I'm easily bored, I find no challenge, there are no redeeming values to RuneScape... Yet, I find myself playing a bit at a time, perhaps due to the social aspects of the game, of course compared to Xbox LIVE, where players are either obnoxious, or don't talk at all. It pains me to see how many people, though, play RuneScape simply to grind at skill levels all day. An example being this particular thread: viewtopic.php?f=66&t=801995, in which a player goes on to tell us that he's endangering his own health in order to train prayer in f2p, using that as a vice to persuade the audience. It's not heartbreaking, it's just pathetic sometimes.
  2. Let's be frank, strength should affect the rate at which you cut logs. I can tell you right now, some toothpick-thin guy, is not going to cut at the same rate as a professional lumberjack (Competition-grade).
  3. We're obviously dealing with a failure to communicate here. There are three levels of people in Runescape: Trolls, normals and idiots. The troll's, obviously, are people like me, who tromp around lighting discussion on fire with long-winded comments that people read in their entirety, only to be let down in light that it either A) Makes no sense, B) Completely contradicts all reason and logic, or C) Aims to criticize, patronize, and anger. You have the normals, people who simply play Runescape to enjoy it. They can be friendly, unfriendly, indifferent.. they could even be a troll or an idiot in disguise. Unlike the trolls and idiots, though, they tend to keep to themselves, and generally keep a neutral stance. Then you have the idiots: Brain capacity is at the bare minimum. It's easy to tell them apart from the crowd, almost too easy, in that they combine their relatively low intelligence with many qualities listed under the "troll". This makes for a melting pot of failure, and stupidity unprecedented by any means. Characteristic of the idiots, are obvious spelling and grammar mistakes with no actual indication that this person may be able to decipher what he/she did wrong. Additionally, the idiots are prone to fire angry threats, and tend to make comments which are completely unnecessary! That being said, in the immortal words of the internet's: Burn it with fire.
  4. Maybe it'd make up for it if level 99 combat skills didn't fail so utterly hard.
  5. The problem that most people seem to run into during this discussion is the illusion we call "common sense". The fact is, common sense is one of the most dangerous concepts in the world. This is largely due fact that common sense solely relies on such: There is a high probability that people will conform to a "normal" strain of actions, or behaviors. For those who don't know what normal is considered, it's simply a median which dictates what everyone is doing. Deviation from normality, which is referred to as "abnormal," denotes a 5-10% deviation from what is considered normal, or common. What's wrong here, is that everyone is not doing the same thing. Everyone is not "normal," nor are their actions common. What may be common sense to one person, is probably worlds apart from what the next person may consider common sense. It was common sense to invade Iraq from an executive point of view. From a civil point of view, it was probably a horrible decision. That's what I mean. ~American, kicking reason to the curb: "Yes we can!!"
  6. Only ~10% of people actually use summoning in cmb from experience. Personally, I've never leveled summoning, all 30 levels come from tears.
  7. Through careful observation, personal accounts, as well as accounts from others: The number of ~13-year old players who are generally undereducated, ignorant, or plain stupid.. number in the high 90-95% range. Jagex's security countermeasures do not typically prove effective as many young players, who range in ages far below 13, are able to simply bypass all restrictions by simply choosing "over 13" at the character creation page. Additionally, structures as the Stronghold of Security prove to be similarly ineffective in that knowing, is not the same as being able to implement said knowledge. Of course we've all seen players above the age of 13 make fools of themselves, but, the data is apparent. I can also safely say, since I started my first Runescape account at age 11, I have never received a single black mark, or had anything go awry with my safety. That's close to 7 3/4 years with no slip-ups. Obviously, if I can do it, anyone can, right? Wrong. It's apparent that the quality of intelligence amongst the average adolescent has deteriorated beyond repair in the last few years, with most unable to articulate a simple sentence of the primary school level. How do you expect to put safety first, when people can't even spell "bury"!? (Alluding to a fellow in Lumbridge, who upon spacial contact, proceeded to explicate his process in "bairying" bones)
  8. It actually tends to throw people off. My p2p combat is 122, but it is 118 f2p due to my low summoning. During a fight, people seem to think my combat skills are lower because I may have a high summoning, and end up getting their butt's kicked.
  9. You fail to realize that, armed with appropriate equipment, judging the level 138 is not attacking back, eventually the level 3 has a slim chance of winning. The earlier theories do not rely on inter-player combat when judging a win or loss, it simply states that the 138 will die.
  10. You know, I missed every holiday drop except Christmas Santa hats. Missed party hats completely, was trick-or-treating during the mask drop, didn't know Easter eggs even dropped until a few weeks after, etc.
  11. You don't own your accounts, they're assets that belong to Jagex. Similarly, each avatar is worth about the same amount as a store coupon: 1/1000th of a cent.
  12. I'm not good with dates.. I simply just remember logging in one day, and the news panel telling me I'd last set recovery questions in February of 2002. I wouldn't call it old school, merely that it's fun to watch the game progress, as I've aged almost 8 years.
  13. I think the misunderstanding here is the fact that attacks aren't passing through you, nor are you dodging the attack. Armor is a barrier which acts to protect the body by covering it with hard-to-penetrate materials. When a sword clangs against a hard metal plate, there's a good chance the blow won't cause any damage what so ever to the opponents body. Then, where attack and strength would theoretically come in, there are scientific accounts in which the force of a sword, such as a claymore, could damage the opponent, shattering his bones, even through the highly resistant armor. There are also spots in armor which are weaker, or thinner, and some spots even have tiny openings which shift due to movement. Striking these particular areas was often advantageous, sometimes fatal. As for a ranger's leather, tough leather was a staple in archaic warfare for a few hundreds years. It's actually quite resilient, with that ability to withstand minor attacks. A heavy blow from a sword, though, or an attack which stabs through the armor, will often negate any protection the leather provides. Seeing as these leathers are also made from increasingly tougher dragon hides, the defense bonuses are reasonable I suppose. As for a mage's robes, we've all seen what a dagger, or an arrow can do to that. Tears it to ribbons, right? While the robes do have defense bonuses, though in a more traditional rpg.. the mage would have virtually no defence, it's generally not enough defense to avoid the powerful attacks from a warrior or a ranger. The mage must rely heavily on the natural defense bonuses which his/her defense levels add in order to effectively survive.
  14. In an absolute monarchy, from which king's are generally derived, the king is always right. Nothing changed with that comment. :shame:
  15. The weapons generally look fine. The dragon scimitar is a bit overblown in design, I'd say, as well as the way the avatar's hold their weapon's straight up into their own necks, it's odd. They're also to scale, everything is a normal size, and the swinging animations are fine. Nothing really suffered, except for the forums, loaded with pointless rants...
