In the past week, I watched both Gunbuster and Diebuster. There's always a lot of contention about which of the two is better, and here are my thoughts on the matter: Gunbuster is very much an art piece. It conveys some pretty heavy themes in a way that isn't too overt. It is very appreciable. Diebuster doesn't really have themes in the literary sense that Gunbuster does, but what it has is a great soundtrack, fun characters, and a cool art style. It is very enjoyable. One his highbrow and the other is more middlebrow, grading them on the same scale would be apples and oranges.
