  1. F2P doesn't only earn that for Jagex. How many members would have become members in the first place if they couldn't try out the game. F2P is Jagex's marketing strategy, the ads are only an added bonus, IMO. Also, Jagex still gets paid, whether the ad is displayed or not. They can't detect whether you're using AdBlock at all. Even blocking Firefox wouldn't stop that, since you can easily just get an adblocker on IE or even disguise Firefox as IE with a program.
  2. Great logic there, honestly. In fact, why don't you just grab an uzi and start murdering hobos as well? Statistics have shown that homeless people are more likely to participate in violent crime. Like you said, massacre the hobos! Yahoo!! \ Cut out the homeless people at the source and we'll have a better world. :D
  3. I'm selfish because I valued Saruman44 over some gp? When the heck did he ever say you were the selfish people he was talking about? That's like going to a site for children with cancer and going "LOL DUUD I DONT HAV CANCER LOL!!!!!" I have to agree with that statement 100%. It's impossible for a friend to hack you, because if somebody hacks you who you thought was a friend, then you (as in most people) wouldn't see them as a friend any more, therefore you were not hacked by a friend. And anyway, if I value in-game money and items more than any friends, what gives you the right to declare me an idiot? If I had the view that life is futile because we're all gonna die anyway, and therefore I can hack other people's accounts as I please, what are you going to do? Punch me through your monitor? Or flame me, declare me an idiot because I have a different opinion to you and chase me out of the Tip.it community?
  4. You'd need separate channels for armour, food, herblore ingredients, ores, etc. One big trade channel would just be too hard to read. And someone should make a directory of useful clan chat channels.
  5. Not everybody follows Christianity or Judaism. I personally do, but that's beside the point. If I were to read the set of "I'd rather you didn't"s from the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gospel ... ti_Monster ) then would you be forced to follow it as the gospel? No. Why should the Ten Commandants be different? Ding dong?
  6. Where is this universal book defining what is or is not rude? If you tell someone else to do something, e.g. not stand in your square, then why can't they tell you to log off? You can't accuse them of being ethically wrong, because there is no universal set of ethics. They can make up and follow any ethics they choose to, and you can't force your opinions on them.
  7. I'll play devil's advocate and ask you how you can expect them to behave how you want them to but not vice versa. You expect them to not steal your monster while they expect you to swap worlds. You don't do what they want you to, so why should they do what you ask of them?
  8. Thanks for all the help. :) Now to start buying those easter eggs... I mean, write that article...
  9. You have to teleport/walk to Lumbridge and find the Doomsayer. He's usually walking around near to the Lumbridge Guide. Right-click him and select 'Toggle warnings'. You have to have visited a place a couple of times to toggle off the warnings. If you ahve visited a place often enough, the red X over the place buttons (on the interface you get when you talk to him) will be gone. You can just click teh buttons to turn warnings on or off.
  10. I was wondering whether price manipulation by, e.g. buying up a lot of a certain item is against Jagex rules. Note that I mean if you do not break any other rules outlined in the official code of conduct, such as you are not intentionally dishonest while doing this. I also don't want a 'of cors it is you nub' type answer, I want an official statement saying that intentionally manipulating the market is/isn't against the rules. And no, I don't have the funds or the motive to do this anyway, I just want to know for an article I'm writing.
  11. Correlation <> Causation. Just because the one guy decided to become a pure and stopped talking to you at the same time doesn't mean that him becoming a pure had anything to do with the lack of conversation, in the same way that the fact that global temperatures have risen while the number of pirates have decreased doesn't mean that a lack of pirates causes global warming. 'Nuff said.
  12. For a requirement, a screen would pop up with about a paragraph of text and a textbox, and you have to type over the paragraph EXACTLY. You would only get three chances, and we could call it the 'Literacy Test', almost like in KoL. There should be statues of Tip.it's founders and a library with all the guides. There should also be a lounge-like room where there are chairs that you can actually sit on and a bar where you can get free Asgarnian Ale. There should also be rooms for the TET, the Admins, the Mods, etc., a museum with all the items in the item database and a zoo containing the bestiary.
  13. I like the puns. After all, Jagex mods brood for a while to bring up all these lovely puns for us, we shouldn't ruffle our feathers and get all warm-blooded and emu over a few... I'll spare you. Personally I think it adds a bit of humour to the site and cheers it up a bit, and I see no reason why anybody would be irritated by it.
  14. I disagree. I haven't been around long enough to see the change happening, but I can tell you I wouldn't have liked RSC or the old Tip.it. It sounds horrile to know everyone in the game by name. How did you sell your steel bars or your feathers? I love the sheer number of people in RS2 and the anonymity. If I knew the people that were mining with me know me and my friends and my net worth and my mining level, I just wouldn't feel as free to chat about random things with random people. In Tip.it, I think that the number of people in Tip.it have brought a bigger amount of differing views and opinions. I agree that there are too many spammy topics though, but all we need to do to solve that is to update the spam rule to include topics that are poll-like and that offer no discussion potential. EDIT: For example, here are some I found on the front page: I also disagree with the view that the new merged General board has anything to do with these. If you remember, 80% of the topics in the General P2P board were not P2P-specific. Also, the General F2P boards were also almost dead compared to General P2P. I think the merge is more of an elimination of General F2P and just a renaming of General P2P. The old boards were also redundant, for example, did we have F2P Help and P2P Help? Blogscape F2P and Blogscape P2P? No. Why did we need the split for the General boards? So what if there aren't role models, why do we need them? It's not as if it's hard to figure out how to be a good poster and we need other people to show us how. For better or for worse, the number of people will only go up, until RS is finally abandoned and Jagex moves onto another game. If you don't like that, tough, but change happens.
  15. WTF? Since when was total level a measure of maturity? You can train a toddler how to click on rocks mindlessly or how to fish->bank->fish etc. I think Jagex is making a good decision to censor those words, if my parents saw somebody on RS saying those words and they're not blocked then I'll probably be forbidden from playing it ever again. Unfortunately, Jagex is an international company and has to cater for people from all over the world. Just because 'damn' isn't seen as strongly in the UK as in America is no reason that they shouldn't block it. Neither should you assume that because most people have heard those words at age 10-12 everybody has. Is it really so much of an inconvenience to just speak normal language without any even slightly offensive words? That being said, I think Jagex should either block 'gay' and 'straight', or block neither. They might be blocking discrimination by blocking 'gay', but aren't they themselves discriminating by blocking it as well? Sure 'straight' has another meaning, but so does 'gay'.
