#5577977 What happened to these forums?

Posted by Sobend on 22 October 2015 - 11:31 AM

Forums are a declining medium and have been getting replaced by social media for years now. New forum development has been effectively killed and those that predate most social media are gasping for air.

Fansites themselves are doing a bit better but not much. I wouldn't say the RS Wiki is to blame. It's more the lack of new players. Experienced players don't need help as much as new ones. Also fansites support would help but it's not the major issue. Fansites and Jagex basically ignored each other until 2009ish and everything went fine. Though I agree that Jagex is giving clear preference to reddit by posting there constantly while ignoring older sites such as tip.it.

Although defeatism doesn't help the cause, the health of the fansite and the forums are largely out of the hands of tip.it and other fansites at the moment.

#5575588 9/16/15 - DarkScape

Posted by Sobend on 23 September 2015 - 03:17 PM

So, I had intended to give this a try this Thursday, since I have some down time before heading out to Boston, but I've discovered that you absolutely require the RS client to play it.  I don't see a way around this.

This wouldn't be that big of a deal, and considering I've been on Linux full-time for the last eight years, I'm accustomed to not getting much of anything for games.  But...I've at least been capable of playing RuneScape in that period of time.  Wonder what changed.

You can play in browser using this link: http://world202.runescape.com/

Wow, very pious.

Congratulations.

#5546726 How do you make your money in game?

Posted by Sobend on 02 March 2015 - 04:00 AM

1. Buy jugs of wine on the GE.

2. Drink the wine.

3. Sell the jugs back on the GE.

Even better:

1. Buy jugs of wine on the GE

2. Drink the wine but not all of it. Leave half of it still in there.

3. Sell the half wine jugs back on the GE.

I average around 4 trillion gold an hour with this method.

#5544955 [16-2-15] Ninja Update – Return of the Wildywyrm

Posted by Sobend on 19 February 2015 - 04:40 PM

I was really surprised the Wildywyrm was not a toggle task. It's how I would have personally implemented it and I don't identify myself as someone who hates the wilderness. Boss-like monsters are toggleable, so monsters that are going to feature player versus player combat should be toggleable as well. Even in the Old School Runescape Wilderness rejuvenaton, you don't have to kill the bosses, fish the fish, etc. But if you get a wildywyrm task and have no slayer points, you're out of luck. Makes no sense.

At the same time there's a bit of me saying that you should just go into the wilderness. You risk nothing now with the three item thing protect thing and from what I've heard people aren't too aggressive over there. I'm looking forward to more wilderness centered updates.

#5543489 [9-2-15] Ninja Update – Responsive Combat

Posted by Sobend on 11 February 2015 - 04:18 AM

Pets are supposed to be extremely rare stop complaining

I like this update, I always thought it was weird that greater demons were cool with me chilling in the forinthry dungeon

Tell that to the dozens of people who have various pets after only a few dozen kills.

Err, what? I don't understand your point. Obviously just because a few people get lucky doesn't mean something isn't extremely rare. And I think you know that so I need more explanation to what your point is.

It's more than just a few people. In any event, it's stupid - boss pets are prestige items that should be reserved for skilled and dedicated boss hunters, not lucky scrubs. I'd be in favour of minimum thresholds.

I don't really think you should view them like that. As stated earlier, I view them as random things added into the game. They're supposed to (or I think they should be supposed to) be given to extremely lucky people - including but not inclusive to epic boss fighters. The only reason why they are items of bossing prestige is because the community gives them that value, which in my opinion is not the proper designation. If you see someone with a QBD pet for instance, you should think to yourself "Wow, that guy got pretty lucky while fighting the QBD once" not "Wow, that person is one hell of a QBD killer!"

Yes, it is very difficult to attain multiple pets without getting lucky, but the pet's aren't really supposed to be set out and attained. They're just there for unsuspecting killers. If you decide to go out and attain multiple pets, that's fine, but you also need to realize that the pets aren't meant to be perceived that way and you might end up getting unlucky in your pursuit. I will add one thing: Jagex has been slightly going against what I believe to be the purpose of the pets by adding some sort of threshold and also the insane Final Boss title. I suppose this is their way of acknowledging people like you who really want to get a pet. But the reason for the pets being in here in the first place hasn't changed.

I will admit that I'm not in the hardcore pvm community like you are. In fact, I would fit under your "scrub" category (thanks for the compliment!). So you may write off this reply if you find me out of touch. However I think your viewpoint is simply a bit misguided when we're talking about the game as a whole.

#5531854 Tip.It Times - Acceptable losses & PCC IV - 23rd November 2014

Posted by Sobend on 27 November 2014 - 02:26 PM

I can't say I like this one, particularly the example you used of somebody getting many 99s at once. For one, I actually know this person and as somebody who is qualified on making judgments about him because of this I can say he's not interested in taking Runescape selfies of himself. The real Luis is actually a very helpful person. When I started playing Runescape Classic, he was one of the few people who helped me out on a consistent basis. He would take time out of his training on either game to help me out there. For example he killed Zombies in the Lost City area to get me the proper equipment and also crafted leather armor for me. He's a nice guy, and in this community I don't like either we could use more people like Luis. Of all of the examples you could have used to illustrate the faults in the community...

There are more reasons than spamming up chatboxes to get multiple 99s at once. Also, if you really do not want to see announcements, turn announcements off. It's not rocket science.

#5525114 Future Update Discussions

Seems they are somewhat following the same route that Old School is taking for item sinks, I am ok with this!

Also following Old School when it comes to boss pets too :P.

#5520710 Recent trend to include PvM into Comp Cape, i.e. Rush of Blood [Split]

Posted by Sobend on 28 September 2014 - 02:37 AM

People raging about having to do a little PvM to do the completionist cape; imagine if they asked people to do some PvP :P.

#5505440 Character Name Clean-up

Posted by Sobend on 09 July 2014 - 05:45 PM

I really dislike the idea that they pawn off people's usernames in the first place. A username is an identity, it shouldn't be taken away from you. Especially not after 6 months.

#5501309 Post all RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds here!

Not the oldest picture I have taken but it's pretty close and the oldest I could find. Dated October 1st 2005

QHa3rVI.png

Not sure how many of you remember this, but there was a glitch where guards would respawn in the crouched position (the same position that they are in after their death). In this case it looks like he is sleeping and I guess it was funny enough to take a picture of it.

Where has the time gone? :(

#5484705 RS3 Pking in One of a Kind Quest 400m+ loot PK Video [4:35]

Posted by Sobend on 14 March 2014 - 02:04 AM

Was not surprised when I saw a ton of marker plants lying around when I was doing the quest (of course Jagex would let this happen...oh sh*t), I immediately spam clicked the entrance and I guess they weren't paying attention.  Would've lost bank.

It was really easy to avoid any pkers if there was one, you just had to click the "Freedom" ability and click on the Dungeon. Teleblocks didn't work.

But the thing is a lot of people were caught off guard.

The quest was poorly designed and you took advantage of it. Not going to restate the whole paragraph I wrote on another forum :P.
