  1. Same here, the exchange got a giggle out of me and got me thinking Dr Seuss: "Would you do what I say if I told you on the phone? In a house? With a bone?"
  2. When you go past the mage arena in the wildy, be sure to walk behind it and not in front of it. Pkers love to hang out near the mage bank (which is just west of the mage arena). When you are on the course, keep your distance from other people. Don't pass other people and be weary of people who are trying to catch up to you (stay ahead of them if you can). If you see someone stop on the course as if they are waiting for you to catch up to them, you should stop as well. If someone attacks and pursues you on the course, climb up and down ladders to confuse them and then run. Try to reach 10 seconds since you were last attacked and then log out. Bring an anti-poison pot with you.
  3. Try this guide: Craftin Fury's How To Make A Zerker Pure: For Dummies!
  4. I very much doubt that Jagex would do this. If Jagex wants to remove rares from the game, I believe that they will do the following: 1) Release the grand exchange 2) Wait some period of time for rare prices to stabilize 3) Replace all rares with their maket value in gp (as determined by average GE selling prices) In step 3, I could also see Jagex giving players the option to accept the market value or keep their rares knowing that they would be untradable in the future. Of course this is all just a guess / theory and I could be wrong. Who would have guessed that Jagex would do something as ludicrous as putting a 3k/15 min limit on staking?
  5. http://runehead.com/editorials/The+era+ ... end%3F-118 read this article from runehead, it is by Duke Freedom, one of the best merchants Thanks for the link, it was a great read. In regard to "should I sell my santa hat right now?" - That's a really tough question to answer. We have been told that the exchange update is coming soon, so given that, how will rare prices be affected? It is hard to say what will happen immediately after the update, but I am guessing that *eventually* the exchange will lead to an increase in rare prices. I think that the exchange will put more money into the hands of players and, as a result, the demand for rares will increase (and with that the price). That said, if people decide that they want cash in order to buy stuff when the exchange is released, they may sell their rares en mass (leading to a drop in price). In summary, maybe rare prices will drop when the exchange is released, but over time will go back up.
  6. you have the right idea :) I hope you can pull it off, ill post some really good ways to make $ in p2p tommorrow. I'll try to give your challenge a shot in the next couple of days, sounds fun. I'm interested to hear about your p2p moneymaking ideas. As for f2p $, this is surely nothing new to most, but in order to generate some cash for a new character I created, I did the following: 1) Starting from 0 gp. 2) I collected 100 cowhides. 3) Sold for 150ea in al k bank (15k) 4) Bought all cowhides for 100ea until out of cash 5) Goto 3 a few times (sometimes I sold for 140ea) Once I had built up a little cash, I went to Draynor and started buying rune wc axes for 15kea and sold them for 20-25kea. I saw some good opportunities for merchanting strength amulets (people were selling for 2k ea near the smith in Varrock west, I think these could be resold for 3 to 4k without much trouble). I know this is all small-time, it was kind of the point. :) There are people who would argue that my time would be better spent training some "skill" (chopping wood is a skill?), but I find wheeling and dealing to be much more enjoyable and couldn't care less what my wc or fishing level is (I only level for quests).
  7. I think that people should let Jagex deal with rule breakers and, for the most part, your typical player should mind his or her own business. Sure, if you see somebody blatantly breaking a rule, go ahead and report them, but I think that you are out of line when you attempt to figure out if somebody drop traded by checking their stats.
  8. I just wanted to say (and you might already know this) - If you do decide to raise your defense, do so by doing quests that give defense experience. This will allow you to get things like barrows gloves without going over your target defense level. Once you raise your defense, there is no going back. The ideal situation is to try pking while your defense is at one and then decide from there. The bummer about this is, life is easier with high defense.
  9. No. I killed him to get a lyre when I did the quest because I didn't have the woodcutting level to get a branch. It took me a good 15 to 20 minutes to get the drop.
  10. For what it is worth, here is my little log of santa prices over time (with comments): 06/15/06 : 11.1 mil (prices dipped due to addition of construction skill) 08/15/06 : 20.0 mil 08/24/06 : 22.5 mil 08/28/06 : 25.6 mil (santas skyrocket on news of cursed_you ban) 08/30/06 : 26 mil (it'll be interesting to see if we see a slight dip as the cursed_you news gets old) 08/31/06 : 25 mil (suprise, suprise) 09/05/06 : 25.75 mil 09/07/06 : 25.5 mil 09/12/06 : 25.4 mil 09/15/06 : 25.4 mil 09/20/06 : 25.25 mil 09/22/06 : 25.5 mil 09/26/06 : 30 mil! (what happened?!?) 10/02/06 : 27.5 mil 10/12/06 : 25.8 mil (I'm guessing they will start going back up shortly) 10/23/06 : 26.3 mil (I guess I was wrong.. :)) 11/13/06 : 22 mil (I thought rares would take a hit when the lvl 99 capes came out. It didn't happen immediately, but I'd guess this is the delayed reaction to the release) After a long layoff, I've decided to start updating this section again. Over the past several months, I've seen santas peak at 25 mil. When the new shop update came into play, santas took a bit of a hit resulting in current prices of: 10/11/07 : 22.8 mil For a long time, it has been said that rares are the only item certain to rise in price over time, but I'm not so sure that is true. It seems to me that Jagex is making a concerted effort to curb this by constantly introducing things into the game that drain money from players' pockets. 11/05/07 : 23.3 mil
  11. I just wanted to add one thing here. If you complete Monkey Madness, you must accept experience from Daero if you want to return to Ape Atoll. This means that you will not be able to do chin training in the dungeon on Ape Atoll and it also means that it will not be possible to do the Recipe for Disaster subquest that requires you to travel to Ape Atoll. I don't have any input on how to deal with the Demon with 4 def / 2 pray, but I just wanted to make sure you knew the detail about not being able to return to Ape Atoll unless you accept experience (I wish I had known this).
  12. This is true. The one guy that I know for sure will drop a lyre is Lanzig. He is just ne after you enter Rellekka.
  13. To get more lyres, do the following: Go to the tree near the slayer dungeon in the fremmy area and cut branches from the tree. You can cut as many as you like. You can buy golden flax from the troll for 1k ea. Put the lyre together and then enchant them at the same place you enchanted your lyre during frem trials.
  14. You could get parts you need to break even instead of merching, but its your choice. To expand on this, it is cheaper to buy logs and bowstrings and then make the bows yourself or trade them to a fletcher for the completed product. I used this method myself and actually gained 1 coin per alch.
  15. I did barbarian to 47 and then did wildy using pies (one bite to enter course) and pots (sip when needed 50 for the tube). Brimhaven is fun but slow.
