  1. I'm pretty much in agreement with most people here. For combat, I'll go with the items with the best stats, regardless of looks. For example, I always wear slayer helm on slayer assignments, though I think it's terribly ugly. The only exception is the archer helm. I just could not stand its ugliness. Even though I told myself that a robin hood probably wasn't worth the extra money for slightly better stats, I got one anyway after a few weeks of hating doing range with that ugly helmet.
  2. I almost never walk through the temple or use the ectophial. I really think fairy rings are the easiest way (since I can't yet to Canifis teleport).
  3. I posted this a few weeks ago. The prices in the example are from August 22, 2008, but the general principles are the same. It was an answer to what are the best things to invest in. It depends. :? Seriously, all you have to do is check the GE database and see what current prices are on the raw materials you can get from Miscellania and select accordingly. As of today, swordfish are up, so putting 10 on raw (not cooked!) fish and 5 on flax is most profitable. The most profitable items are normally flax, coal, raw fish, and maples. Calculation of results from 10 workers based on today's prices: 545 coal X 179 each = $97,555 1,250 flax X 92 each = $113,750 440 tuna X 119 each = $52,360 + 131 swordfish X 525 each = $68,775 - total = $121,135 892 maples X 44 each = $39,248 Thus, it makes sense to put 10 workers on raw fish and the remainder on flax, as it is the next most profitable resource. That comes to a total of $178,010 (10 fish, 5 flax) on an investment of $75,000, which is a net profit of over $100,000 per day (and this does not count the extra goodies you get like seeds and caskets). The problem is that you can't always make the most money with this combination -- you have to be willing to check current prices to make sure there are no significant changes. For example, when Rocking Out first came out, coal was the most profitable resource. As for maples, I'm going to let someone else comment on them. I do not use them as I prefer the guaranteed return I get with fish, flax, and coal. However, with maples maxed out, you should collect 8 bird's nests each day and the contents of the nests can make maples profitable....I just don't have any data on them. Finally, you also get some miscellaneous items with each resource that I haven't really included in these calcuations. The occasional snapdragon seed that may arrive with the flax can definitely skew the results....so you might also want to take those into consideration. I've been getting 2-3 gems per day if coal is maxed, 4 caskets and maybe a fremmy item if fish is maxed (and the occaional key half) and probably like 2 herb seeds per day on flax. As for the rest of your questions, I go every 2-3 days to keep favor up. I usually rake the weeds because they aren't too far from the fairy ring and if I forget a rake, I can get one for 15 gp. Sometimes I'll go on a spree where I collect every time I'm there, other times, I'll let it build up a while, just to see how much I get. If you plan to do that, you have to make sure you leave enough money in the coffers, as they take out $75,000 per day. I usually keep at least 1.5 million in the coffers, just in case I don't get there for a while.
  4. That sounds about right to me too. As an example, here are my results. Keep in mind that it is very random and results vary quite a bit. 100 Bronze 190 Iron (290 total) 290 Steel (580 total) 690 Black (1,270 total) 580 Mithril (1,850 total) 160 Adamant (2,010 total) 40 Rune (2,050 total) 2050 total + another 370 to get a 2nd rune. Don't forget to get another rune defender while you are there -- I got four extra..just in case. At the very least, save the adamant defender so that if you die with your rune defender you won't have to start all over.
  5. I don't know of any step-by-step guides...though I'm sure they exist. I'm not too good with the search function. I would think though, that's its impossible not to profit from MTK. You deposit money in Miscellania. I usually start with 1.5 million so I don't have to replenish it every day, but anything over $750,000 is fine. Wait a day (I'm going to base this explanation on one day...but you don't *have* to go every day). Do something to get your favor to 100%. I rake the farming patches because they are right by the door to the castle. Talk to Ghrim(?). Make sure you have your resources alloted in the most profitable way (or at least the way you want them). Right now, I'd go 10 workers on raw fish and 5 workers on flax. Tell him you want to collect your resources. When you do, $75,000 will be deducted from your account in Miscellania to pay the workers. In return, you'll receive 440 raw tuna, 131 raw swordfish, and 625 flax (plus a few miscellaneous items like caskets and seeds), which will deposited directly into your bank. Because you have paid the workers, you will have $75,000 less on deposit at MTK - which you need to replace while you are there. Sell the 440 raw tuna, 131 raw swordfish, and 625 flax on the GE at market price and you should receive about 178,000. This gives you a profit of about 103,000 when you deduct the $75,000 you had to replace at MTK. I really hope that makes sense...I'm not too good at explaining these things, I'm afraid.

  7. There is one of the master farmers in Draynor that you can trap in a pigpen (I think that's what it was, it's been a while). If you manage to get in there while he's in there and close the gate so he can't get back out, you can get xp pretty quickly because he really can't go anywhere...you pretty much just stand in place and pickpocket. The only problem with this method is you have to watch for other people who either come in or leave and leave the gate open.... :x
  8. I have never met a Portugese player either, but I have met quite a few from Brazil.
  9. I play mostly for relaxation. I have a stressful job and work far more hours than I'd like....so Runescape is a nice diversion. I also really enjoy chatting with friends (both those I know irl and those I've made while playing). As for goals, they can change from day to day. I'm currently kinda working on 76 fishing (at 72 now), so that I can fish sharks (not for money or xp, but just so I can do it). However, I often end up doing something quite different than I'd planned once I sign on. Yesterday, for example, I did no fishing at all, as a friend asked me to go chop willows with her. I went and we had a good time -- and I didn't regret not fishing one bit.
  10. I also like the level 30 zombies on the second level. They are in a room with one flesh crawler. Everyone else wants to train on the flesh crawler, so you'll likely have the zombies to yourself. They drop a lot of steel arrows. I had about 65-70 defense when I trained range there (I think from like 40-50ish) and didn't need any food at all.
  11. As everyone else has said, it's probably not worth the money. I still use one, however, because I only have 61 range. I also just think it looks cute. I did have an archer helm, but it is so ugly that I usually just left it in the bank when I trained range. I finally sold it when I realized I just hated it so much I'd never wear it. That's when I bought the robin. I will probably sell it and buy a god coif when (if?) I get 70 range. At this point, however, I think I lend it out far more than I wear it anyway. I might keep it even after I get a god coif just for that reason.
  12. I'm an adult and I think I'm just a little bit offended. I am not sure why I'm getting the impression that a lot of people think that those who would prefer to have the option of an adult-only world would want it simply so that they could go around swearing at each other and talking dirty. There are legitimate reasons why someone might prefer to play in an adult-only world. I realize it is not going to happen and I can appreciate why. Still, that does not make a desire to have one somehow wrong. I personally am a little tired of meeting people in the game who assume I'm a teenager. Even worse, I dread being asked how old I am because I'm often met with, "OMG get a life!" or worse, "you perv!" I can also tell you I often feel a bit odd when I'm say, fishing, and the conversation going on around me is all about AP tests or getting a driver's license, or whatever it is that someone's mom won't let them do..... Yes, I do have adult in-game friends and I do mostly talk to them. However, I can see the appeal of a world where everyone is an adult (assuming that there is a way Jagex can verify age that is more reliable than self reporting. He has a valid point. As a female, I don't really give this much thought -- though maybe I should. However, I can see how an adult man who finds himself chatting with mostly teenagers and preteens in the game might find it a bit worrisome. I'm sure it would be a relief to have the option to play in a world where that wasn't an issue.
  13. I have no need to swear in game (or out of game, for that matter). However, I would very much like to see the chat filter become optional for those of us who could verify that we are over 18 (or over 21 or whatever). I certainly understand the reason the filter is there and I do think it serves a useful purpose. But is quite frustrating when innocent words are replaced by asterisks for no discernible reason. I realize that no system is perfect and some inadvertant filtering is likely unavoidable. I definitely support keeping the system as is for those who cannot verify that they are over 18, or for those who may be adults and want to keep the filter as is. What I would like is a way for those of us who are over 18 and feel we can manage without the filter to be able to have that as an option. I do not know how practical that is, but it would be nice to have that option available. If only adults had that option, I doubt there would be much spamming (at least I would hope not).
  14. I did read your post. :) You are correct about the dogs. However, I really didn't find them to be so much of a problem that I wouldn't recommend going there to him. They do stop eventually. I honestly was surprised that the task turned out as well for me as it did. I had more than enough food to finish 134 in one trip - despite the dogs -- and if I remember correctly, I may have even received a charm or two from them. I think he'll be fine and it would be as good a place as any for him to get his melee stats up and get a few charms and rune full helms in the process....but that's just my opinion.
  15. I think he'd do fine at greaters. My stats are very simiilar to his and I did a task of 134 of them last week. I finished the whole task in one trip. I took a super set, slayer gem (I hate not knowing how may are left!), a teletab, and the rest pineapple pizzas. I had food left over and got quite a few charms, most of them crimson. The dogs, however, are extremely annoying at first, but they do eventually settle down. P.S. If he really wants golds, hellhounds drop tons. I'd estimate from every ten hellhounds I killed, I got 8 or 9 gold charms.
