  1. Hate the update, not the players. That's your job, not mine. Let's look at your article paragraph by paragraph: 1. Intro, claims "unnecessary and even downright awful features" are present in EoC. As an intro, fine. Intros aren't supposed to explain everything. 2. Explains how the new combat calculation works. Notes that prayer, summoning, and hitpoints no longer affect combat level, but doesn't explain why this is a bad thing. Also notes that level 4s can have 99 prayer, summoning, and hitpoints but again, doesn't say anything about it except "that's ridiculous." Look at this way: if you were trying to convince someone who doesn't agree with your stance already (which should be the point of the article, as I would hope you're not just trying to stroke your own ego), you've said a lot but explained nothing. You told us things we probably already know and said they are bad, but not explained why. And you never come back to this point, so the reader who didn't agree with you already is not any more convinced. 3. The hitpoints multiplied by 10. Complains that it was done only to cater to "adolescent boys." Otherwise, made no mention of how it was a bad thing (because attracting more people to the game is apparently such a terrible crime?). Made a subtle nod to the added precision, but passed it off since it doesn't actually benefit you (which wasn't the point. Balance was). I know, a lot of people complain about this. But in all honesty, I bet if people actually went back to the old way, most would come to realize that they prefer it how it is now. Nostalgia glasses can be decieving. 4. More complaining about catering to children. Doesn't mention how the new combat level maximum could possibly be a bad thing for the game itself. Claims the combat formula is broken, but never explains how or how the previous one was better. 5. Pures etc. are destroyed. I've never made a pure nor have I spent much time in the beta, so I don't know how much they're really effected. It could have used a bit more explanation as to how these accounts are unusable, but it is othewise fine as far as I can tell. 6. Outro. Doesn't say anything relevant to the rest of the article. Claims there is room for improvement, but doesn't offer any suggestions. Normally this is fine (you don't need a solution to point out a problem), but since you never explained why the apparent "problems" are...problematic, it falls flat. Aside from wondering how/why someone has identical Atk/Str to another player but 47 more hitpoints levels, put it in the article and you're golden (or perhaps bronze, seeing as there are other things to explain). It's not that I don't agree with you at all on this point; it's just that you said nothing about it. Prayer at the very least I agree should be calculated in somehow. HP is generally going to come with your other levels anyway, so that's not a big deal, and Summoning is just a strange matter to deal with here.
  2. Too much complaining in the first article. It basically came off as "this obviously targets a group I'm not a part of, therefore it sucks and I hate it," with little focus on legitimate problems. It didn't even explain why leaving Prayer, Summoning, and Constitution out of the combat formula is a bad thing. And personally, I thought multiplying Hitpoints (and Prayer) by 10 was a great update as it allows for more precise hits. And guess what? Hitting a 250 is cooler than hitting a 25. Why is this a problem? As for the second article...I don't really know what to say. I definitely enjoyed it better than the first and think it was pretty good overall, but by the end I feel like it didn't say as much as its length would suggest. Plus I don't think the R$ community in general is as mean as people make them out to be, though the article didn't exactly say "Everyone on R$ is a jerk!" or anything like that. It's really just that a moment when someone wrongs you is more likely to stand out than the opposite. It's like when people think they "hit every red light" while driving. It's more likely they didn't notice all the greens because they just drove through them. But that's beside the point, and the article did contain a lot of truth.
  3. Only read the first article so far, and it was good, but are these things edited? I saw a lot of spelling and grammatical mistakes in just the first half.
  4. Hope for Tip It Times: Renewed. Infinitely better than last week and much better than a lot of recent weeks. Haven't quite finished the second one, but damn if that isn't long and well-thought out.
  5. Yes. At least I hope so. These doomsayers have been around since at least 2007, probably sooner (I know because I used to troll them on the official RS forums). We're in 2012 and RS is, if anything, probably stronger than ever. Both the game and the site look a hell of a lot better, there's much more to do, many things are much more convenient (money pouch, tool-belt, bank tabs, equipment and other stuff from the bank, etc.), getting into the heat of the game is faster (this is a good thing, yes), and they've even got Runefest now. I mean, it's not like I think everything in the game is perfect. Taking free players off the high scores is the worst thing Jagex ever did and is one of very few updates I actually consider to be not only bad, but having a negative effect on the game. Refer a Friend is basically official real-world trading, and some of the stuff you can get from the Squeal of Fortune is just too good for 1-2 completely free shots a day, not to mention free players being able to get member's items but being told they need to subscribe to claim it. However, there's really nothing I can think of aside from those that I consider bad at all, even if some of it is borderline (Loyalty Program). But if I write an article complaining about all the doomsayers, that doesn't actually make me any better, does it?
  6. God, have the Tip.it Times really not changed since I stopped reading them a year or two ago? I got tired of authors constantly [bleep]ing about this and that with the game and, with the exception of a few in recent weeks, it hasn't changed. I know there will always be doomsayers and nostalgia elitists wherever I go on the internet, but come on, allow some positivity for a change. Write something that doesn't make me think that the real reason RS might end is because everyone keeps droning on about it ending and not because of any actual problem with the game.
  7. I'm sorry I offended you. No, wait, I'm not. I'm sorry you can't seem to handle even the smallest bit of criticism or disagreement (it is not "random bashing for the lulz," thank you). Yes, I read your article. All of it. I've been keeping up the Times for a while and the trend I tend to notice the most lately is that a lot of people want to complain about something in the game. Maybe it's always been this way, though I don't remember it being so a year ago when I cared about it a lot more. That's what I'm saying; I disagree with your article, but that's not the sole reason I posted. I posted because I'm tired of seeing the same stuff every week on the Times, and this just happened to be a subject I was particularly interested in and have thought about a good deal myself. There's no reason for you to get so worked up over it.
  8. For the achievement one: This is a topic I've been thinking about a lot lately, so I was somewhat excited to see an article written on it. But alas, it's just another person complaining and reminiscing about "the good ol' days" or whatever. Sorry if this seems like spam, I know I've barely posted on these forums but I really wanted to get that out.
  9. Sorry if these have been posted already but I didn't see them on the main site nor on the first post of this topic, so here they are: [spoiler=West Ardougne] [spoiler=Just west and a little south of Stealing Creation]
  10. Interesting. Brought up some intriguing points, but it felt like the Editor didn't have enough time to write it.
  11. Thank god for you, Mr. Editor. Maybe your article can knock some sense into all those people who think Jagex just wants money and doesn't care about us.
  12. level 81 warped terrorbird. 59 feathers. 92 feathers. chocolate bomb soul rune(1) Death rune(5) Earth Rune(13) air Rune(30)(48) adamantite ore coins(25)(36)(39)(47)(55)(98) swamp tar(26) Mithril warhammer rune warhammer uncut sapphire Dragonhide NOT recommended! I tested melee armor and dragonhide and they hit much more when I wore dragonhide! But protect from range is still a must. The range attack is very powerful, but the melee attack seems very weak, so high range defense or proselyte + prayer(haven't tested this yet) is suggested. ~Fourfoxes~ [Darkblade986 - done]
  13. That second letter was the best thing I have read in a long time
  14. I am reading more immaturity here on this thread than I ever see in-game. And yes, that is the author and everyone agreeing with him. Since when does the opinion of a non-player have a voice in this community?
  15. I couldn't disagree more with the article. Now I may have only been around for a few years, but I think that is long enough for me to give an unbiased opinion. I don't mean to flame or insult, but it's you people, the author and those who agree with him, who are REALLY making the game worse for players like me who just want to have fun, but also be in community areas like this. All you seem to do is point out the flaws and ignore the things you actually enjoy about the game. One persons complaint will reach out to another, who will reach out to another, and eventually there's a riot of complaints. Yes, JaGeX has made the game more suitable for kids. But that does not by any means make it a kids game where everything is easy and handed to you. All the things that made it great before are in fact still around (minus, of course, whatever community there was, which I have heard different opinions on). You want that noob to shut up while you mine, turn off your chat. See an autoer, report it, it really does help! Don't become a nooby kid or a kiddy noob just because you hate them. On a side note, stop calling JaGeX greedy. They had to implement pay-to-play or they may have had to shut the game down. And while they are in no way obliged to update, they do anyway, sometimes big and sometimes small, so wait your turn for your update and stop complaining! I know I will be flamed for this, but, really, that helps my point. RuneScape is made worse by those who choose to not let it be good. Ask not what your community can do for you, but what you can do for your community. There may not be much, but support can go a very long way. All I hope for is that I reach out to some of you.
