[Update 8/5/2015] - Minigame Spotlight

18 May 2015 - 10:27 AM

inb4 modded

Minigame Spotlight

The Minigame Spotlight system makes it all the more rewarding to play your favourite minigames – and to try out new ones!

Earn thalers – the Spotlight system's currency – by playing any of 14 minigames:

Pest Control, Soul Wars, Fist of Guthix
Barbarian Assault, Conquest, Fishing Trawler, Great Orb Project,Flash Powder Factory, Castle Wars
Stealing Creation,Cabbage Facepunch Bonanza, Heist, Mobilising Armies & Trouble Brewing

Then, spend them on selected rewards from any of the games included in the system, as well as limited runs of selected Treasure Hunter items.

Every three days, a minigame will be spotlighted, yielding thalers five times faster than it would normally.

RuneScape has a wide variety of minigames, and here's a new reason to try them all out. Read on for further details!

How to Start

You can claim 1 thaler per 5 minutes simply by playing any of the games listed below. Playing the spotlighted minigame earns you 1 thaler every minute. You will – of course – still receive any currency or other rewards usually awarded by the minigame.

The spotlighted minigame changes every three days. The order is as follows:

Pest Control
Soul Wars
Fist of Guthix
Barbarian Assault
Fishing Trawler
Great Orb Project
Flash Powder Factory
Castle Wars
Stealing Creation
Cabbage Facepunch Bonanza
Mobilising Armies
Barbarian Assault
Fist of Guthix
Castle Wars
Pest Control
Soul Wars
Fishing Trawler
Great Orb Project
Flash Powder Factory
Stealing Creation
Cabbage Facepunch Bonanza
Trouble Brewing
Castle Wars

Note that – by design - some minigames come up more frequently than others. Once this rotation ends, it will restart and continue indefinitely.

Outside each minigame covered by the system is a podium, and on the spotlighted minigame's podium you'll find Stanley Limelight – the Spotlight host. You can find out which minigame is currently under the spotlight and access the thaler reward store from any podium – whether Stanley's there or not.

Stanley Limelight
Opening the store will reveal selected rewards from all minigames included in the Spotlight system – armour sets, skilling outfits and more. There'll also be a selection of rewards normally only found on Treasure Hunter. These will be limited in availability, so get them while you can!

Note that Ironman accounts cannot claim any rewards from the Spotlight Reward Store that they would not ordinarily be able to access.

There's never been a better time to get into RuneScape minigames and enjoy their unique rewards. Have fun, and let us know your thoughts over on the forums.

Skill Capes & Diango Improvements Patch Week

07 April 2015 - 10:12 AM

Skill Capes & Diango Improvements Patch Week

This week we’ve focused on bringing you a batch of fixes and improvements. Take a look through the list below.

Skillcapes Toggle

You asked, and we delivered! This update will allow you to toggle between both your old and new skillcapes, plus you’ll be able to keepsake both versions too and toggle individual skillcapes at the skillcape vendors.

Your new model has been updates and the older versions now have hooded versions.

Diango Interface

Diango’s store has been given a fresh lick of paint and interface improvements – head into game now to take a look at the update.

Solomon’s Store – Companion Pet Familiar Overrides

Your companion pets are lovely little critters – many of which you enjoy taking on your many adventures, and we think that they deserve to be more involved! To that end, your summoned familiars can now take on the appearance of your companion pets!

Much like your Legendary pets, any companion pet you own can now be used as an override for your summoned familiar. The familiar will still retain all of its special abilities and combat effectiveness, but look like your beloved companion pets!

Note that an overridden familiar will lose it’s appearance should you enter a PvP area.

Simply locate the pet you want to use as an override in the Pet interface and hit the ‘Override Familiar’ button and the bottom of the interface. That’s it! Your familiar will now take on the appearance of that pet!

And to celebrate this, Solomon has put all companion pets in his store at half price this week! Pick up a pet you’ve been eyeing up and take it all over Gielinor – there’s nothing quite as cute as Zenn fighting by your side!

In Other News

We’ve got a few new things to try out in BETA, including the new death mechanics we’ve been talking about on the forums, and a new way of collecting loot.

All going well, the Legacy/EoC mashup feature should be making it's way to the live game this month. This lets you to choose the combat and interface modes independently, for example allowing you to run Legacy combat with the New Interface System, or Legacy interfaces with EoC. Thanks for the feedback you provided on the features being tested on the BETA servers so far.

Patch Notes

Ports - Guardians of the World

26 January 2015 - 11:02 AM

Ports - Guardians of the World

You wanted more Ports, and - by Hubbub's briny beard - that's what you're getting today.
Manage voyages anywhere in game, meet three new adventurers, embark on a whole new voyage type and enjoy some exotic rewards, including a level-85 katana and wakizashi, and seasinger wand and orb.

You must have level 90 in at least one of a number of skills to access Player-Owned Ports.

Each of the new adventurers requires level 90 in a particular skill:

  • Agility for the Tengu
  • Divination for the Memory
  • Dungeoneering for the Exile

Manage Voyages Anywhere

You can now manage your voyages from anywhere in game with the captain's log.

This allows you to send your ships out on new voyages and find out the outcome of existing ones without interrupting your other activities. The only exceptions are story voyages, and the few voyages that require you to receive an item in your inventory upon completion.

You do - of course - need to visit your port to do anything else.

New Adventurers

There are three new adventurers who can come to your port, taking your crews on new story missions:

- The Tengu is a living mask controlling a willing host - not to mention a brave vanquisher of evil. Requires 90 Agility.

- The Memory is a young girl born of divine energy, whose first concern is not being harvested! Requires 90 Divination.

- The Exile is a gorajo searching the Eastern Lands for her brother. Requires 90 Dungeoneering.

Their adventures will take your crews throughout the existing Eastern Lands regions, culminating in a team mission that features monsters from the deep, uncharted lands, and an enemy who may be familiar from elsewhere in RuneScape.
Clue Voyages
There's an all-new voyage type, too: clue voyages.

When you get the opportunity to embark on a clue voyage, you'll be required to send one of the adventurers to an island. You'll have a clue as to which one that is - get it right, and you'll unlock the next in the chain.

Succeed in finding the final island, and you'll enjoy any of a number of rewards, including Tengu cosmetic gear, trait removal for your captains, and stat boosts.

Consider building the new map table port improvement, which increases the likelihood of getting the new clue voyages and gives you hints as to the correct destinations.

New Gear and Port Improvements

There's plenty of new gear to make at your port's item-crafting stations, too:

  • The tetsu katana and wakizashi are level 85 melee weapons.
  • The seasinger's kiba and makigai are level 85 magic weapons.
  • Fishing fans will enjoy the new scrimshaws:
  • Whopper-baiting scrimshaws give you the chance to hook a whopper fish. It'll get away, but you'll gain extra Fishing XP as you grapple with it.
  • Casket-salvaging scrimshaws give you the chance to dredge up caskets of loot, including divine locations, gems, and port resources.
  • Note that - for each - there is a more powerful, non-tradeable 'superior' version.

There's a whole batch of azure and terracotta-based port improvements to build, too - including the new map table.

Ninja Fixes
Finally, the Ninja Team have snuck in a batch of your most-requested tweaks and fixes and features:

  • Exiting your port via the portal can be done with just one click.
  • The current ship selection is kept when moving between the voyages and ship interfaces.
  • Meg's lamps can give XP in Agility, Divination and Dungeoneering.
  • Extra lifeboats are no longer offered once you have reached the maximum of four.
  • You can remove tutorials from random events.
  • The Effects interface closes when a ship is sent out.
  • You can re-roll your captain in the Crew interface.
  • You can re-roll your special voyages in the Voyages interface.
  • Using the captain's log's teleport function inside your port teleports you outside.
  • Current XP is displayed on crew and captains.
  • The exit portal is no longer active during random events.
  • The Black Marketeer's random event has been tweaked, making it quicker to complete.

Set Sail!

Have fun exploring the never-richer Eastern Lands. This update was voted for by you, so do let us know what you think on the forums.
